@histicamente1 The Engine has a special sealed SU Carb from the Leyland MG Metro, with a dedicated plenum chamber. The turbo blows through the carb, The fuel pressure within the carb is kept 3psi above boost pressure by the aid of a fuel pressure regulator controlled by the boost.
Fwiw, I read that the MG Metro Turbo was originally intended to have 120-130 bhp though the gearbox was not up to the task, which led to being detuned to 93 bhp.
Btw, I was thinking of dropping a 1.3 A-Plus engine into an Innocenti Mini DeTomaso shell and was wondering what would be a suitable lasting gearbox if I went down the Turbocharging route in order to reliably get the sort of figures the Metro Turbo should of been blessed with?
@wickiezulu If your going A series Turbo, then an uprated Gearbox is a must for reliability. Centre oil pick up pipe, Cross Pin Diff, uprated Gearbox bearings. Straight cut gears are very noisy for a road car.
@gabylea1994 This is copper gasket. Check your Compression Ratio is not too high. This engine was lowered to about 8:1. and the head and block were skimmed before assembly
It sounds like it revving more than it actually is. The redline was set at 5500rpm and Dave the dyno operator would never take the rpm higher than the engine felt. Considering an original Morris Cooper 970S revved to over 9000rpm standard this is quite tame! So you see, the Mini was more than happy on the rollers, Intercooler, Oil Cooler and uprated rad made sure everything ran just right.
I'm impressed! I like blowers , but they are both good ways to pack a combustion chamber..and that's how you make real power. Also i'm making a kit to install bmw 325 seats in my mini..so far it looks like a good cheap way to have the seats mini's deserve. JC
Yep, and pretty well too! They all use forged cranks and rods, from the factory - vintage racers will often get these little things spinning well over 8k rpm on otherwise stock internals (save, for forged pistons and better hardware). The castings are very stout, and thanks to the siamesed pairs of cylinders, a short crank.
I'm building a supercharged A+ 1275 myself. Quite impressive on the inside, they are!
hi where did get ure car set up ? i live in the south east and hav a turbo'd mini want to get it setup by someone who knows wot there doin car looks good

Head Gasket was a quality Copper type. I was running quite a low CR as we opened up the chambers in the head, but never used go silly on the boost!
