  • throwing some enya into the mix does not make up for the horrible images.

  • So was she an autistic child?...or did neglect by her parents lead to this condition?...Or, did they neglect her because they did not know how to deal with a child that had special needs.

  • @mathiasgandy I've always wondered about that as well.

  • @mathiasgandy She's not special needs. She's like that from neglect, she never had any contact with humans until she was 13, the only contact she got was from her family whom never spoke to her (because the father threatened to beat them if they did.) It is extremely rare for something like this to happen which is why scientists were studying her. She made an extremely important contribution to science, it's just extremely sad that it had to happen that way.

  • when i was told about her in psychology, i couldnt sleep that night.

  • When you read about and watch videos about how feral children act, don't you wonder to yourself: What is being human if animals can influence us into becoming one of them?

Being human isn't real. It's something learned. We're nothing we say or act like.

  • As sad as this story is, and as ghastly and heart-wrenching it is to hear what she went through, we did manage to learn a great deal from her. It opened up the path for psychologist to discover what privation TRULY is. I am NOT condoning what her father did, i am merely STATING that it helped us to understand the mind and the psychological world, a little greater.

  • i swear i would kill that old fucker. what a shame poor girl

  • @jamieheap1 that sentence has horrible grammar...

  • @romeostruedude It's from American Beauty!

  • What is that song in the beginning?!

  • Did this in school. Sad :(

  • I think everybody should be examined before they can bring a child into the world

  • wow this cannot be the coincidence. the song played in this video is from american beauty, and i've been listening to it for so long. as i loaded this video i had it playing in the background and when the video started i was stunned. i wonder what it means

  • @BIGBLACKLAWL Nothing.

  • what's the name of the movie???

  • @16asker16 Mockingbird Don't Sing

  • @Waromon thx man

  • yea the film is actually called mockingbird dont sing, yes she is alive however even her old careers and the social worker who helped her come through so much is banned from seeing her (court order) i can say if you are going to watch the film have pleanty of tissues as its truly heartbreaking x

  • i she still alive ? i wanna vist her :(

  • The dramatic re-enactments were a bit cheesy and dumb, no?

  • The music doesn't the story in my opinion.

  • @mjordan1998 Genie had no communications with the outside world, her room was bland with only the potty chair, her cot, some "toys" like old food containers and a boarded up window. She could faintly hear planes from her window and faint piano music from a neighbour which made her became fascinated with classical music with as it was one of the few stimulations she had. When they first found her she only knew about 20 words, all were negative like "stop it" and "no more". Truly a tragic story.

  • This isn't meant to be humorous, but I wonder if they left a TV on all the time like Disney or ABC if she would have developed enough to at least fit in society.

  • why and how could someone treat a child in such a way is unbelievable.

  • is there a film for genies life?

  • @21nov12 Yes, It's called ''Mockingbird don't sing''.

  • I pushed "like" by accident.I agree with lexichronicle2;I wish we could know how much she has been able to rehabilitate, and if she is at least enjoying life a little.

  • I want to see what she sounded like when people attempted to communicate with her.

  • Oh god someone PLEASE awnser me, whats the Piano Music called, playing literally a few seconds into the video. I've been looking for about half a year but i cant find the name of it. I know its famous, thats why it's driving me crazy!

  • @Oremir

It's Enya. But I don't rememeber the track name I think it's called 'Only Time'.

  • @needawittyname Dude no, thats the second half, i'm talking about the verry first bit, the Piano.

  • @needawittyname NO he was reffering to the beginning with piano. Not that ugly Enya song where that girl is singing. Sounds AWFUL!

  • @Oremir I know the feeling, I can't sleep when I recognize something but I can't name it! It's the soundtrack of American Beauty :)

  • @Oremir I'm looking for it too!!! UGH THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE! We need to shazam it!

  • for those people who hurt genie, damn you people!all i could feel while watching this vid is that i want to give genie a hug and rescue her from that animal place.damn you...you don't know how wonderful life is...i wish i was there...but you know there are still a lot of genies in this world that needs to be rescued

  • The mother was about as responsible as the father. Reports say she was also abusive to her. She could have saved herself and her children but she didn't so fuck that bitch.

Wish the father could be brought back to life to be tortured slowly and painfully till he was wishing he was dead the fucking bastard.

  • i can't read that fast and the video won't let me pause it :/

  • Why on this earth would you give her back to her mother?

  • @littlevikki88 The father was the abusive one. The mother (who was nearly blind) and Genie's brother were both kept captive in the house. Genie was discover when her mother took her and fled. The father committed suicide when Genie was discovered and left a note saying "The world will never understand". Messed up crap, man.

  • @begonedreamer The mother was abusive too (apparently under the influence of the father which doesn't really justify it either, cataracts or not). A parent is supposed to protect her children, not let them be tied to a potty for 13 years staring at a yellow coat jacket. And the experimenters were also heartless motherfuckers. Hope they all go to hell.

  • what's the name of the instrumental song in the first half of the clip?

  • that movie made me cry when i watched it and yes i am on my brothers profile

  • @SugarNova1 He got off easy.

  • i believe she will go to heaven and will be happy there

  • u no,humans are not good to animals themselves or any one with them i felt really sad for her! fuck her parents!

  • she never had cloths on thats video is different my teacher has taken care of her!

  • shes now in a nurseing home

  • she constantly has a puzzled look on her face. it's heartbreaking.

  • "I personally believe we have more to learn from her."

I think trying to learn things from her was one of the things that should have come secondary to her learning. The experimenters who claimed to love her were the same people who gave up on her.

Genie is still alive and in a care home. Talking about her in the past tense as a finished experiment is not fair.

I would like to know how Genie is now and that she is finally somewhere she's happy.

  • @lexichronicle2 I always wondered what Genie is like now. Funding for her project ended and as such she is no longer documented. I wonder if she has improved her communication skills but, most importantly whether she is happy.

  • @lexichronicle2 The funding for the project was stopped and some of the reaserchers were actually sued by Genie's mother some time later for having her put through so much foster care. I patially believe the people who looked after her the longest miss her dearly and they probably try to refer to her in the past tense as a coping mechanism to try and forget her as it hurts them knowing she was taken away before they could help her make a full recovery, sadly she's reported to be mute once again.

  • @lexichronicle2 Nah, her mother filed a restraining act to keep the people who were teaching her from talking to her or knowing where she is. They didn't abandon her, they were merely forbidden to know anymore stuff about her

  • @lexichronicle2 Genie's good! She drinks out of the toilet every morning, licks my face to wake me up, can do tricks, and she just has the cutest pumpkin costume for halloween...

  • @SongHooks1993 thats really not funny at all. Its quite disrespectful, I'm appalled that you would even post that here. This is such a sad story, and your making a joke out of it. Not funny at all.

  • @liveallforHim

I agree. Sometimes as adults we need to quit enabling the playing we see in this world and take a stand for something larger than ourselves. This Planet needs leaders who do, not players who think sloppiness is acceptable and diamonds anything but diamonds, and there are no diamonds allowed in My home, or that possessiveness will lose me the Love I've gained by being a Man and not a feral child... Thanks SH93... I will be listening and feel free to subscribe to the serious Artist

  • @lexichronicle2 @PocketDrummer

    Blame the APA.

  • @lexichronicle2 The experimenters ran out of money and the mother if you want to call her that sued them even though she had been making progress thanks to those researchers and their friends who were willing to let their own children socialize with Genie.

  • the man that did this to her should rot in hell, and be tied to a chair there. burning slowly.

  • I was studying sociology today in college and the subject of Genie came up thanks for the video it was very helpful to my studies.

  • How?

  • what was he wiping on her face????

  • @1jadeamber feeding her food

  • I remember hearing about her as partof my psychology class... its horrible what her dad did to her :(

  • Comment removed

  • This is a very sad story. I wish she would have been able to stay with the people who studied her. She would have lived a happier life and I personally believe we have more to learn from her.

  • @PocketDrummer the people who studied her never really cared for her. everyone used this poor child and as soon as the funding gave out they fed her to the wolves. she was passed from foster home to foster home to just be abused over and over. no child should ever have to go through what this girl went through.
