You've got to be kidding me. When I came to college the last thing I was looking for was a FRATERNITY, but I found one that just so happens to be the best on our campus. And I ended up with about 15 of the best friends I could ask for and about 30 friends that I know will always be there for me. If you bitch about dues you're an idiot because it's all worth it. Especially housing $1940/semester includes EVERYTHING even digital cable and FRATERNITY events. It's about the brothers not the cash.
When I was pledging I was required to be in the Library for a designated amount of hours a day/week. We have to maintain a certain GPA to be active in the Fraternity while an undergrad. Even as an Interest/before joining the organization I had academic requirements that involved educational enrichment events and being in the library a lot.
First of, when I am an alumni I won't say I was in a Fraternity in college. I will say that I am in a Fraternity for life. I am a Brother till the day I die. I love my Brotherhood and there is nothing I will not do to help my Brothers out. We do so much community service (waking up on weekend mornings for community service walks.
my dues go towards all the amazing events my fraternity throws to give me an amazing college experience...events like formals, mixers, brotherhood events, alum events, etc are NOT free! in no way am i paying to have friends, these guys would be my friends even if i dropped tomorrow. so go fuck yourself you fucking GDIs!
C'mon people, I've made so many friends in fraternties in college. The thing about fraternities is having fun and making connections. I made a lot of good connections and now I enjoy a good life with a good salary, though the economic times are hard now, still my life is better than of an average college graduate. Guys and gals, seriously, don't be so dumb, fraternities DO help, just use them wisely instead of posting some random hate videos and accusing fraternities. People, think before u act!
@Kitsune1414 Hazing is completely unacceptable. My fraternity does not haze nor do any fraternity or sorority I know, and the few that do lose their charters. Associating all greek organizations with hazing is like associating all priests with child molestation
@Vitalik1Ru "The good thing about fraternities is having fun." You basically said "The good thing about fraternities is nothing." There is nothing good about having fun. Fraternities do not enhance the level of education you will receive and probably do not help you after college to find a well-paying job.
People have the right to view fraternities/sororities however they wish, whether they're good or bad.
But If you think fraternities and sororities are jokes, I encourage you to view the statistics which give the % of Presidents, CEO s, Governors, Senators, and Representatives who were in Fraternities and Sororities. Ask anyone of them about their greek life experiences and I guarantee you they will say it helped them develop the skills they use today.
Exactly, it's not a secret why so many high-ranking public officials belong to exclusive clubs in their College days. Networking, networking, networking.
Stupid people paying to make friends and supporting horrible drinking habits. They ruin the social life for non-frat students on some universities because they become excluded and it gives an unfair job opportunity to the frat kids.
I'm the treasurer of Theta Chi Fraternity here at University of the Pacific. Dues turn out to be around $100 a month, though living in the fraternity house is cheaper than most off campus housing. To be honest, I hated the concept of dues...until I got this position and realized how necessary they were. Dues collected go towards philanthropy events, campus wide dances floors, and various social events: it's the pulling together of resources for a collective cause.
Fraternities are just clubs for mysogynist, party boy assholes. Frat boys are estimated to commit 70 to 90% of gang rapes on college campuses and are more likely to believe rape myths. Many of their traditions, from hazing (which kills) to walks of shame, are dehumanizing and cruel.
What are you guys talking about??? Fraternities are AWESOME!!! I have met so many friends there in college and now i'm workking with my BS degree earning 60k per year and it's gonna rise next year even more. You just guys are lazy fags that don't want to commit time to your friends and prefer to fap on Michael Jackson and Bill O'Reilly on friday nights intstead of getting a legit gf or hanging with your fraternity family. GO Alpha Kappa Sigma!!!!!
@Vitalik1Ru I actually never comment on people's comments, but I wondered what would happen if I did. Your utterly ridiculous reply was entertaining. BTW, I'm not jealous because I'm a straight lady. Just don't like the "f" word and felt like calling you out. Have fun with your girlfriend's tatas, sincerely.
@Vitalik1Ru AHAHAHAHA! no wonder you needed a fraternity to help you get friends or a job, you have a terrible grasp on the english language and i'm sure your gf's a dunce as well, you two are perfect for each other. Also your friends are probably douche bags as fraternity's are places for assholes to gather and dehumanize the college students who choose not to be a decrepit ball sack and forever slack off in life, congratufuckinlations for being a waste of skin.
I'm in a fraternity and its really a shame that fraternity are portrayed this way. Honestly there are frats like that, but there are ones that are completely different. There are fraternities that actually do things beyond partying and being douche bags, but most of you will never think about that and just keep bashing and discriminating on ALL fraternities. To all of you in a good fraternity you know what Im talking about, to those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about i pity you.
@uriarte411 That's extremely true man. I am in a fraternity but it's not likke we exclude anyone. I skateboard a shit ton and have a ton of different friends outside of the fraternity and it's the same with my brothers. No one can talk shit on fraternities unless they have been in one.
@MRtoker2007 WAIT HOLD ON, are you saying the people who WONT PAY to live in a place that cost money SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO LIVE THERE. Dude you are making breakthroughs left and right today. and if you're using that logic, than so is every single place ever that costs money to live is discriminating against those who haven't paid. Another breakthrough
@MRtoker2007 Dude you must be seriously butt hurt about something. Because by discriminating against ALL Fraternities you're just as bad as you say Frats are. Congratulations
Yeah all those weirdos secretly wish they could be friends with you because you're so great. They must act differently because they don't have the self-confidence they could have from gaining super awesome friends like you.
@Deerych your just into group think.... if you dont know what group think is then open up a book and read about it since your so busy paying for discrimination
@MRtoker2007 I know exactly what group think is....you fail to realize that love and acceptance are are the core of the human condition. I am for critical thinking individuals who can interact and empower groups to change our reality. Go take a class for the socially inept and you will feel better about yourself.
I pay $100 per month, but you have to realize where this money goes. Some of it goes to National, to pay for pins and pledge fees. Some of it goes toward annual events, such as a formal or a senior dinner. The rest of it goes toward running the house, such as paying for parties, creating community service events, buying ink and toner for printers, holding rush events, and many other things. So if you are part of the house, you pay to upkeep the house and the fraternity. Whats wrong with that?
im in a fraternity and we have a pretty good values system, we dont discriminate, even between houses, and we dont "pay to be special". We pay because we stand for the values we represent. Partying isnt on the top of our list, it isnt even close. We work on building strong individuals with excellent leadership skills. We have a heavy focus on academics, if your GPA falls too low, youre on probation within the fraternity. Frat life isnt what it used to be, at least not in my house.
I was a little brother in a sorority and the whole thing was pointless. They didn't do anything but party all the time. After awhile, lots of drama started occurring between my girlfriend and the sisters, so I said "to hell with them." in hindsight though, I should have listened to those Sisters, cause that girl was trouble. I guess they were trying to look out for me, but I was too blind to see it.
The funny thing is that everyone always hears how the party frats are "where everyone totally goes to party mannnnn, thursday, friday, saturday it's happenin bro!" Except what many people who don't attend these lovely events don't realize is that every week it's the same people going to these parties. No, the whole campus does not go - it is a concentrated number of people that go and drink shit beer at a dirty house every week. I always had more fun partying with friends in our dorm rooms.
I've been to quite a few of those frat parties and you're right. Same obnoxious guys and stuck up girls at every party. Non Sorority and frat parties are 10 times more fun.
I'm in a sorority and we don't have housing and it is about 100 dollars a month. But I work 2 jobs and I earn the fun that comes with being in a sorority. A sorority helped me get both of those jobs. I've met so many great people on my campus. People that'll be friends with for the rest of my life. Being apart of Greek Life isn't for everyone. And from the outside looking in I can understand why people think we're paying for friends. I think its easier to get through college with a support system
Listen to the fucking viewers, and stop censor words, do you realize how fucking foolish you seem after you got yourself famous for being the most real show out there? disappointing, truly.
Let me guess, Steve was involved with the nerd chapter of Lambda Lambda Lambda? Just kidding with you Steve, just don't get on the phone and talk while I'm in the library trying to study ;)
Sororities ARE $100 or more a month, but fraternities are cheaper. Fraternities are non-profit organizations, and the dues pay for house repairs, food, advertising, or national representation. If you think they are about discrimination, same thing could be said about college in general. You're paying to get an education where you exclude people with certain test scores.
All fraternities are different, and they exist for all different reasons. People have different reasons for joining them. I was in one that was cool as fuck, and I made some of the best friends of my life. Anyone who would talk crap about my fraternity or why we joined it doesn't know what they're talking about. We were a big group of friends, we paid into a common fund that allowed us to do shit we wouldn't have otherwise been able to do, and we had some insanely fun events and parties.
@bman006bjj15843 I actually believe you... It does take a certain kind of personality to get in that high status position, and the fact that Greeks tend to be on the richer side (again, helping them).
@bman006bjj15843 sounds like elitism to me. Do you know if that counts academic greek organizations because I made that at phi beta kappa my school but its not a real frat. its more like an honor society.
@blacklite911 Honor Societies are one of the three main types of Greek societies. The other two are social and professional. I completely understand bashing certain frats because they deserve it (sae, pike, ect...) but the point I'm trying to make is you cannot generalize over all of Greek life.
I had no clue frats/sororities cost money to be in. My sister just joined a sorority this year at a private college, and I don't think she has to pay anything to be in it
The paying for friends thing IS kind of dumb, to be fucking honest. WHY do you have to pay to get in a frat?? I never understood that! ANY OTHER organization you can practically get in on campus for free, but a frat or sorority requires you to pay god knows how much. Doesn't make much sense. Is it just a way to rip off desperate students who REALLY wanna "make friends" or what? There's no other way those frats and sors can make money?

option to actually be able to do more and have more shit to do on campus w/ my time and hang out. It wasn't bad. Since it wasn't the 'typical' college, there was one coed "fraternity", one fraternity made up of mostly music majors (dorky), and the "typical" frat, although the guys there still seemed a lot cooler and nicer than the average macho frat men. Of course, I never got in. However, once I transferred to Mizzou, frats just didn't seem necessary anymore with so much else to choose from
The favoritism given to sororities and frats by the staff running the universities (or at least big ones like Mizzou) is kind of annoying. They got a WHOLE WEEK just for Greek shit. I don't recall many other organizations or organization TYPES on campus getting a WHOLE WEEK full of events and shit dedicated to them.
Ironically, my first year of college I went to a very small campus with like 3,000 students and only 70 student orgs. Not a lot to do. So frats actually kind of seemed like an
I find it funny how the university websites and various other sources of info (like pamphlets, booklets, etc.) ALWAYS say stupid "correlation as causation" bullshit like "Fraternity members have a higher average GPA", as if BEING in a fraternity automatically makes you smarter or some shit. And frat and sorority members have that dumbass initialism "GDI" (Goddamn Independent), AS IF everyone has an equal chance of getting in, and we just "squandered" the "opportunity" b/c we're dumb.
Also, other people have posted this, but fraternity dues aren't pocked by the seniors, or any profit driven entity. The dues pay for things you do, they pay to throw parties, they pay for your food, they pay your rent, they pay for other costs, they pay for recruitment events
I was in a fraternity and I didn't "pay someone to discriminate." The money goes towards maintaining the place (heat and mortgage costs money) but mostly beer (that also costs money).
It's not "discrimination" to get a bunch of like-minded people together. You can be friends with people in and outside your fraternity or sorority. What's the big deal?
This guy obviously tried to join a fraternity but didn't make it.
@eatmorenachos the thing is that, in many cases (definitely at my school), many people who are in frats or soros refuse to associate with people who aren't in one, which is where his discrimination claim comes in. many people feel that being part of one of those groups automatically makes them better than everyone else and gives them the right to be jerks to everyone. also, in many cases, members of those groups are all attractive and all of the same race and socioeconomic status.
@Cuddlebunzzzz That's a stereotype. Sure some of that exists. At my school there was the rich boy fraternity, the "aryan youth" where all of them where blonde hair, blue eyes, the jock house, etc.
Mine was an odd mix of mutts of all faiths, races and backgrounds. To claim that "all" fraternities are elitist is absurd.
I always thought the concept of fraternities was retarded. Maybe waaaay back in the day they actually stood for something and did some good, but now they're exclusive boy clubs where you pay to have friends and turn into an asshole. Several good friends of mine joined fraternities and came out changed, for the worse. It's like they inject you with douchebag serum once you pledge.
Fraternities are for students who are too lazy to do their own networking. Instead they show up a sign saying "Look at me, I was in Alpha Krappa Mama" or something in hope some boss was in the same fraternity and will favor you over someone else. Again. Do some networking and you can get a lot more for free.
Amen brother! All he's saying is the truth. Its a waste of time and money. Many of they also have humiliating initiation rites. If you want REAL connections and you aren't a pussy, join a gang. A single jump in, its over and you're in. Then you got money, girls and party 24/7 because THAT is the lifestyle. If you're going to subjugate yourself, you might as well do it for good reason.
I am in a fraternity member, and our dues are $80 a semester, which is pretty low. I know how some fraternities at some schools can be, but with the fraternity I joined the $80 that we paid in dues went directly towards the things that we actually did.
WOAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Theyre wearing MY lil private schools shirts!!!!! i did NOT see that coming!!!!!! NICE GUYS!!!!! <333333333333 Thx 4 the love, LOVE you too!!!
I can't stand the irony, but he has a point of discrimination except it's considered "Hazing". Trust me, discrimination is only the last resort for all student organizations.
@NeccoWecco I didn't party when I was in college nor did my closest friend. We had a friend that did join a frat, and they partied all the time. We didn't get it then. I still don't today.
it depends on the frat and stuff my friend found the right frat and it wasnt to keep people out saroties are horrible but my friend found a good frat they never paid into the frat or anything he just happened to get invited into one by a brother and this is a ha bisky upload
Steve-O was in a fraternity with Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin... they did not let Adolf Hitler in cause he was always bitching about how he was suppose to take Art as a major and how he hated taking Dictatorship as a major cause he would never have to use it.
@chefawkes & furthermore you have not heard me talk?!? you have read a comment I have wrote so obviously it is not going to be sexy & im not trying to make it sexy lol...You my friend are a clown lool....Peace 2 ya
@bunkmasterflex Well idk, but I know for sure that there are on campus housing specifically for sororities (which is bullshit), and the girls still need to pay those dues. They must be soooo desperate to fit in.

No, the whole campus does not go - it is a concentrated number of people that go and drink shit beer at a dirty house every week. I always had more fun partying with friends in our dorm rooms.

@MountHappy
I've been to quite a few of those frat parties and you're right. Same obnoxious guys and stuck up girls at every party. Non Sorority and frat parties are 10 times more fun.
kuunami 5 months ago
I'm in a sorority and we don't have housing and it is about 100 dollars a month. But I work 2 jobs and I earn the fun that comes with being in a sorority. A sorority helped me get both of those jobs. I've met so many great people on my campus. People that'll be friends with for the rest of my life. Being apart of Greek Life isn't for everyone. And from the outside looking in I can understand why people think we're paying for friends. I think its easier to get through college with a support system

Arete2day 5 months ago
@bman006bjj15843 I actually believe you... It does take a certain kind of personality to get in that high status position, and the fact that Greeks tend to be on the richer side (again, helping them).
EctInc 5 months ago
@bman006bjj15843 sounds like elitism to me. Do you know if that counts academic greek organizations because I made that at phi beta kappa my school but its not a real frat. its more like an honor society.
blacklite911 5 months ago
@blacklite911 Honor Societies are one of the three main types of Greek societies. The other two are social and professional. I completely understand bashing certain frats because they deserve it (sae, pike, ect...) but the point I'm trying to make is you cannot generalize over all of Greek life.
bman006bjj15843 5 months ago
The money goes to the community. My frat did more for the school campus and for the community around the school than any other college group.
If an anonymous person acts like a jerk no one remembers. But if one person from a frat acts like a jerk everyone condemns all frats.
Some people from my frat were jerks, but they would have been that way even if they weren't in the frat.

However, once I transferred to Mizzou, frats just didn't seem necessary anymore with so much else to choose from
whoo689 5 months ago
The favoritism given to sororities and frats by the staff running the universities (or at least big ones like Mizzou) is kind of annoying. They got a WHOLE WEEK just for Greek shit. I don't recall many other organizations or organization TYPES on campus getting a WHOLE WEEK full of events and shit dedicated to them.
Ironically, my first year of college I went to a very small campus with like 3,000 students and only 70 student orgs. Not a lot to do. So frats actually kind of seemed like an

If your paying for a membership in a club, the club isnt discriminating, as long as they dont deny people membership even if they're willing to pay.
AtheistSwede 5 months ago
I find it funny how the university websites and various other sources of info (like pamphlets, booklets, etc.) ALWAYS say stupid "correlation as causation" bullshit like "Fraternity members have a higher average GPA", as if BEING in a fraternity automatically makes you smarter or some shit. And frat and sorority members have that dumbass initialism "GDI" (Goddamn Independent), AS IF everyone has an equal chance of getting in, and we just "squandered" the "opportunity" b/c we're dumb.

I was in a fraternity. If you were in the right major, and weren't a complete dipshit, you pretty much got in. "dues" cost less than room and board.
Fraternities aren't quite as intimidating as most people think. They're mostly a clique of friends who live together, they're not the mafia.
KarateKidX 5 months ago
Partying, fraternities etc. No wonder the USA is full of dumb asses.
baalisgod666 5 months ago
I was in a fraternity and I didn't "pay someone to discriminate." The money goes towards maintaining the place (heat and mortgage costs money) but mostly beer (that also costs money).
It's not "discrimination" to get a bunch of like-minded people together. You can be friends with people in and outside your fraternity or sorority. What's the big deal?
This guy obviously tried to join a fraternity but didn't make it.
eatmorenachos 5 months ago
@eatmorenachos the thing is that, in many cases (definitely at my school), many people who are in frats or soros refuse to associate with people who aren't in one, which is where his discrimination claim comes in. many people feel that being part of one of those groups automatically makes them better than everyone else and gives them the right to be jerks to everyone. also, in many cases, members of those groups are all attractive and all of the same race and socioeconomic status.
Cuddlebunzzzz 5 months ago
@Cuddlebunzzzz That's a stereotype. Sure some of that exists. At my school there was the rich boy fraternity, the "aryan youth" where all of them where blonde hair, blue eyes, the jock house, etc.
Mine was an odd mix of mutts of all faiths, races and backgrounds. To claim that "all" fraternities are elitist is absurd.
eatmorenachos 5 months ago
@eatmorenachos that's why i said "in many cases" multiple times instead of "in all cases"
Cuddlebunzzzz 5 months ago
I always thought the concept of fraternities was retarded. Maybe waaaay back in the day they actually stood for something and did some good, but now they're exclusive boy clubs where you pay to have friends and turn into an asshole. Several good friends of mine joined fraternities and came out changed, for the worse. It's like they inject you with douchebag serum once you pledge.
nemo3590 5 months ago
Fraternities are for students who are too lazy to do their own networking. Instead they show up a sign saying "Look at me, I was in Alpha Krappa Mama" or something in hope some boss was in the same fraternity and will favor you over someone else. Again. Do some networking and you can get a lot more for free.
