  • I also am a set up / operator work at a plant in Alabama for past 9 years blanking out pulleys...still going strong working 6 12 hour shifts

  • @koma7265 - Yeah it is either all work and no family time OR no work and all family time! The USA has become an extreme country in every espect of life. All left or all right! We used to be a moderate middle of the road country but not now!

  • I work for a company as a set up/operator on punch presses. They are going strong. And I love my job (hence, my screen name).

  • I had a job doing this same exact thing and the plant closed and shipped all the work to mexico and overseas! It was the best job I ever had! I sure miss it!! I worked for Howell Industries in ohio then it was called Oxford automotive before we closed!

  • America will go down hill without the manufacturing of hard goods. A service only economy will not be enough to support the mamoth US Government.

  • I was a T&D Maker then became a Mfg Engr. Downsized at 50 because their health insurance for 50 was too high. I never even used it. The last 2 yrs I spent transfering the rest of out product to Taiwan and China. Millwaukee was bought by a Chinese firm with an office in Calif. The ONLY American Power tool company left is Porter Cable but they are moving to. B&D makes no power tools here anymore. I guess we T&D Makers need to learn Chinese !

  • REGreenTeam, I was a tool and die maker also, and suffered the same fate you did. It's hard to live out " the race to the bottom" isn't it.

  • Any1 smart would not get in to Tool & Die these days. Bad trade not what it used to be. I'm getting out.

  • How is it a bad trade? The company I work for is great and we generally need skilled Die operators.

  • Well maybe in my area where I live I was in the trade and even the ppl who work in the trade say its not what it used to be. and you are talking about die Operator Im talking about Tool & die Makers.

  • I spoke wrong, we not only run dies but we make them as well. You might have heard of the company, Burr Oak Tool and Gage.

  • I worked for toyota at the TABC plant for 16yrs.tandam and blanking and dieshop apprentice
