  • Great guitarrist

  • Nice solo. always liked "feels so good" never knowing this was The man. five stars

  • Grant is a stud on the strings. He has been a hero of mine for years.I can tell he took Private.(LESSONS)

I think he is looking on the ground to see where his capo is.Can't play this stuff without at least 2 capo's on at the same time! And a slide! And a tab printout of Justin Bieber's latest hits.

  • For guitar it IS the best I've heard. It's not just a matter of playing fast. Grant Geissman has such excellent taste in melodic and harmonic ideas. On the "feels so good" album his guitar work almost took over the flugelhorn. I mean it was that good.

I listen more to piano these days, but he's a great musician, both technically and artistically.

P.S. He's not looking at his strings...he's reading sheet music or maybe tab...while he's doing some pretty complex stuff. Try that if you're hot.

  • @robertslistening hahaha @ you thinking he's reading tab

  • How is the name of this song?

  • Ever since I heard the playing on Feels so Good when I was 9 I've viewed Grant's playing as amongst the best I've ever heard.

30 years of "absorbing as much guitar as I can" later and that feeling hasn't diminished one bit. Grant is a musician's musician and his playing always blows me away.

  • Nice Grant ! . See ya in Spazio's this Saturday ! (Milan)

  • Nice to see you commenting here, Grant. I'm sure you've heard this a million times, but your solo in "Feels So Good" is just one of the best guitar solos ever recorded. You really caught the proverbial lighting in a bottle with that one, mate.

If you don't mind me asking, could you tell me what brand/model guitar you played that solo on? And do you remember what sort of amp setup you used in the studio? Just curious, as I loved that 'sweet' tone you got on that record.

  • Ken, in case he doesn't get to you, when I saw them live in the 70s, he was playing a "wide" hollow-body F-hole Gibson, perhaps an L-4 CES or the Super 400 CES. It was a single cutaway, but I can't remember which one. He'd have to fill you in on the amps, etc. When I played the song, I had a Les Paul Custom (NOT a jazz guitar), but I used the front pickup, played it through an MXR Phase-90 and a MusicMan HD-212 amp. That was 30 years ago, mind you, and it didn't sound too bad.

  • Thanks for the info, Jon. Maybe Grant will check in on this thread someday and fill us in on the amp/effects.

  • wow (L)!!

  • Yeah Grant plays a mean guitar but more importantly he's the one who puts together those Mad Magazine yearbooks!!!!!!

Still love his "Flying Colors" album. Saw him play with his band at the World Trade Center mid 90's? and then again on the summer cool cruises....Never seen him play NYC again....BOO HISS!!!!! You still hiding out in the Northwest Grant???? LOL....

  • Thanks for the props. But I never lived in the Pacific Northwest; Los Angeles is the place! I'm working on a new solo album at the moment...

    --Grant Geissman

  • Grant, I learned your Feels So Good solo when I was 13, having already seen you with Chuck twice by then. I played it in Jazz Band, and while I probably butchered it, 2 of my friends decided to take up guitar after that! You were one of my first heroes on guitar. Glad you're still playing and writing. FYI..to learn that solo, I had to have my teacher slow down the VINYL album to 16-speed...talk about low tech ;-)

  • Now THAT'S a great story, jons923. It amazes me how music and the musicians we admire can inspire and give direction for career, hobby, or personal entertainment.

  • I would love to know Grant. At 57 i'm about to hang it up as a working guitar player. Is there anything or anybody worth playing for anymore. I find more and more people in the clubs less respectful of live music or musicans. mz

  • My father took me to see Chuck Mangione in the late 70s,

The whole band (Vics Vadala, James Bradley jr., and Grant) blew my mind !

Chuck was pretty good also !!!

  • Are you the guy who played with Pat Pace in Akron about a hundred years ago? Please answer ! And are you doing the music for 2 1/2 men? I see your name on the credits ..... Gotta be. I hear Pat in you.

  • No, I don't know who Pat Pace is. But yes, I do co-write the music (with Dennis C. Brown) for TWO AND A HALF MEN. I recorded a jazz version of that theme on my SAY THAT! album.

    --Grant Geissman

  • By the way. Your are a great player

  • Pat Pace was a great jazz pianist. Died a few years ago. You'd have liked him. Got you mixed up with his guitar player. I remembered your name from Chase the Clouds Away ........ you were major wonderful and from 2 and half Men, you still are. Thanks for answering. I'm off to look for SAY THAT!

  • yes its still alive!!!

  • which chart is this

  • it has to be a chart they have not relised it... i know all their tunes and i do not reconise it...

  • Go General Grant Geissman! Damn! You're still hot!

  • 3 words: David Todd Singleton. a vocalist extraordinaire. they will be working together soon - trust me. from lexington, ky

  • this guy is legend he was the guitarist for chuck mangione!!!!
