  • DOOOOOOON.

  • 0:14 check out those stutter steps.

  • nowhere close to the magnitude of Sampras's smashes

  • Look at the man's footwork :|

  • lol...'vertical leap' - I believe you can call that a 'jump'

  • darth federaa

  • No you can't- think about it- how many thousands are trying to make it to the top, and how many actually break through?

  • I can do it much better.

  • @cammpinno then why aren't you playing on the tour? jeez...

  • @cammpinno What? being Capdeville? cause its impossible to be 1% of Roger.

  • @TennisAnnalyst Hmm it looks like he takes even more tiny quick steps than just 5 but I'll take your word for it since my eyes aren't quick enough to count them individually.

  • Btw, can anyone count the amount of steps Federer took before he jumped? Lol

  • I was there for this match, I remember this. And I also remember this dumb guy sitting behind me saying "WOW look at that serve! You know, this Federer guy is actually pretty good..." to his friend.

All I could do was shake my head.

  • much smoother, tho pete sampras made it seem more epic lol

  • Sampras disliked this Video

  • sampras got more air but roger its almost like im seeing a cat.... so smooth DAMN!

  • lol not quite as good as the sampras smash

  • Much smoother than Sampras.

  • POWERFUL i love it

  • Not as much air as sampras but still nice to see.

  • lol he actually smiled for once!

  • Incredible play!! But I hate YouTube's fuzzy compression bullshit.

  • this is daaaamn so sexy

  • WOW 0:15 the amount of steps he takes in a matter of 1-2 seconds is insane. don't know how many FPS this camera has but it probably takes a professional camera to catch that footwork

  • look at the footwork! so fast

  • look at fed's footwork... damn lol

  • dat was kinda scary... i peed myself

  • "despite a determined and fired up opponent in Capdeville".

ROFL. Capdeville is crap. I know. He's my countryman, and our only hope after Fernando González and Nicolás Massú retire.

    Yeah, we're totally screwed.

  • no one can do it like sampras, sampras had the footwork while in the air

  • if u see pete's dunk smashes he bends to get power off his legs then jumps federer didnt even bend at all...... flying much?

  • He can't get the height but he makes it look easier.

  • beautiful

  • great great great

  • This shows that Federer imitates Sampras.

  • @salaheddine10

its one of the basic strokes in tennis

    its a smash...

and if you're not tall enough to hit, you jump

then it becomes a jump smash

    sampras just popularized it

  • @foul01

No but Federer wanted to jump to enjoy the spectators. Because he can also stay in his position and hit a normal overhead.

  • @salaheddine10

jumping works better, more angle, less time for opponent to react

besides, its the US open, it pleases the crowd just to glimpse a shadow of sampras again

  • @foul01 but it is much harder to time correctly. but i guess at that level you pretty much have all your timing down lol

  • So anyone that jump smashes the ball is imitating Sampras? I didn't know Pete Sampras was also an inventor...

  • @bluefire3991 : No but i talk only about Federer because that one tries to imitate him.

  • No...but Sampras overhand smash is legendary. Nobody comes close to him in that aspect...

  • @bluefire3991 pistol pete made this smatch. that was called "slam dunk". samrpas was the first to make so.

have u ever seen samrpas' matches on TV???

  • he got a chance and he took it, simple as that.

  • he is the best...

  • I love you Roger

  • Roger Federer .Grand Slam Champion 15

    3 Titles Australian Open

    1 Titles Roland Garros

    6 Titles Wimbledon

    5 Titles US Open

    Career Grand Slam Complete

    21 Grand Slam Finals 1st

    237 Consecutive Weeks as 1st, ,22 Straight Grand Slam Semi-Finals 1st

  • 50 aces in a GS final !

  • i find it amazing how easy it is for them to catch a 3rd ball :/

  • haha, I noticed that the other day. we would catch them easily too if we had ball kids all the time.

  • The quality of youtube's videos is incredibly bad to see tennis.

  • yea...

  • SHIIT!!!

  • badminton jump smash ftw!

  • federer is in almost all ways superior to sampras, but that hang time does not have pete worried.

  • I dont think there was much reason to jump high though. Im almost certain that petes vert is higher but pete usually dunked lobs that were much higher

  • pete has better 1st, 2nd serves, better at net and overhead... in terms of aggression, no one comes close to sampras

  • you're right zzzzsh, but just think about Sampras having an off day with his serve, in 99 % occasions hes doomed. Federer has absolutely EVERY SHOT, great forehands, serves, backhands, smashes, volleys, drop shots, lobs absolutely every shot there is in a book and he's making new ones

  • u r retarded??

sampras has won 14 GSs in a very competitive era, and not one dimensional era like roger federer.. how often do u see ppl charge the net to pressure him?? sampras have had off days, and yet managed to win 14... if sampras had good days every day, he would end up with more slams federer could dream of.

  • Federer would've played tolly different tennis had he played in the super-fast 80's or 90's era.If you say Federer would be owned by Sampras in the 90's I'd say Sampras wouldn't win a single GS tournament nowaydays cause ALL the surfaces are way slower than before.

Anyway, I can't remember Sampras playing in all 4 Slam finals, winning 2 when he was 28 and having to deal with a bunch of great young players like Del Po, Nadal, Djokovic or Murray. I can't remember him playing in a single FO final.

  • one dimensional? lol okay

  • Maybe, maybe not. Federer has never had to play someone like Sampras. Serve and volley players are a dying breed in today's tennis game. He would have no idea how to beat Sampras' sheer aggressiveness and near-unbeatable net play. Federer's supposed "all-court" style of play is in reality him just hammering shots from the baseline and getting into long boring rallies. Despite their head to head record, Federer would stand no chance against Sampras in his prime.

  • Amaaaaazing. Plus as a sidenote i love it when he wears all black, it makes him look great = )

  • yeea u know it! like the grim reaper ...but with a racket! haha opponents must poop themselves

  • Concerning smash and serve and volley I agree. But yesterday, Roger took the opportunity and won Roland Garros, my dear.

  • STFU u ugly twat

  • that must have been overwhelming lol...classic sampras done by federer

  • HELL YA!

  • grande capdeville, perfecto el globo para el smash de Roger

  • geil!

  • HELL YA!!!
