Could someone put it a little more simply as to what he felt the whole story should have been about? He said he didn't want to see how Vader became Vader, but he had said earlier that it should have had him be normal, then be seduced by the dark side; therefore, become Darth Vader. Did I miss something? I'm just a little confused.
@videogamehunter820 He meant that the prequels do not tell an important story, a story that didn't need to be told. But since prequels are here now and can't be undone (well, there's always bleach), he pointed out how the story could've been told to at least make some sense cinematically.

if it was order 666, then I think I would get the "meaning" of it.... but it would still rise the question of how many orders they have... and it would just seem dumb... but then again, it IS a hellish event to eliminate all jedi.
I was okay with the conflict being Anakin's premonition of Padme dying in childbirth, it was a plot device, but it dealt with one of the important relationships in these movies. only Obi Wan, Anakin, Padme, and the Emporer actually needed to be there, and only their character arcs mattered.
I love how he says all the right things. Like how he said people shouldn't bash Hayden Christiansan, it's so true. No one could do better with the shitty written character. I feel sorry that Hayden takes the blame for what is essentially Lucas' fault. And it WAS Lucas' fault because he actually wrote the character
Another thing about vader was his lousy shoulder pad thing. He cannot lift his arms very high resulting in stiff movements. I think they should've gave his arms more freedom of movement.
actually i have to say i never made it rhrough the entire citizen kane. it was a dull and ridiculous film. i don't care about the fantastic lighting or the famous use of deep focus. and i am tired of people constantly invoking this film. are we going to be hostages to this ancient black and white production until the end of time?
I totally agree with the old man, it's dissappointing this story of Darth Vader had to be told. He was part of a bigger story, but he was also at first, just a mysterious badass officer who carried out plans of a higher power. The prequals aren't and shuldve been about him just because he's famous to us. This whole prequal trilogy was just two words I hate about movies that adapt source material: FAN SERVICE
Am I the only one who just has the biggest urge to yell out, "Commander, tear this ship apart until you've found those plans! And bring me the passengers! I want them ALIVE!" every single time I see Vader throw that dude into the wall?
How will destroying the Sith bring balance to the force? Maybe the Sith unbalance the Force, but they are Force-users like Jedi. Destroying them will only unbalance the Force to the light side. Now the Sith were pretty much non-existant in the prequels, until Darth Sidious and Maul showed up, so wouldn't "bringin balance to the force" imply that he will ressurect the Sith? He did do that but he also unbalanced the Force in favor of the dark side by killing all Jedi.

"Destroying the Sith" and "bringing balance to the Force" are NOT one and the same. "Balance" implies equality between the two sides of the Force. If that's the case, it's the JEDI who are upsetting balance, not the Sith. Anakin killing the Jedi did fulfill the prophecy.
Before Order 66: a hundred or so Jedi, 2 Sith.
After Order 66: 2 Jedi, 2 Sith.
Perhaps "bringing balance to the Force" wasn't such a good idea after all.
Oh its so sad to see how far Darth Vader fell. The prophecy bull crap should never happened. Damn Lucas for being too obvious with his religious undertones.
That's VERY true. About the learning, training thing. Yoda was teaching Luke stuff...but as a side effect, we were learning the same stuff, which allowed us to understand who Luke was becoming.
Man, do i hate those people who say that those parts were totally pointless...
Plinkett's right! Darth Vader was much more interesting and made much more sense when he was simply just a high-ranking badass, one among potentially many. Space Jesus... good call. Write off the whole "first" three movies here.
@PatchesRips well in the FIRST movie (a new hope) vader WAS just some guy, and he wasnt even meant to be luke (or leia's) father. i think the whole story became more interesting when the relationship was conceived and revealed. i think the prophecy thing was a good idea it was just vague and confusing. and making vader space jesus could have worked, but it just didnt.
@theZodiacDigital The way we understood it back then was that initially Lucas had written the arch such that Darth Vader was Luke's father (it can hardly be a coincidence that "vader" is "father" in German), but changed his mind for the production of the first movie, then changed it back by the time he was shooting The Empire Strikes Back. The last three "first three" movies were just utterly confusing, meandering, pointless garbage about boring, uninteresting characters.
@PatchesRips I see your point, but what I was saying still holds true. At the time of the first movie, Vader was just some guy. Changing it (back) to making him the father made the story cooler and him more interesting. Don't you think?
Vader was really the only interesting thing (conceptually) about the prequels. How was he as a good guy? How did he get scarred? How was he seduced? Those were the most interesting questions. They just gave poor answers.
To he more exact, VaTer is the german word for father. Not a d, but t. And in my 21 years of life I have never heard of any german word known as "vader" before. So that point, I am afraid, does no longer exist.
Shesh, I did not consider such a hostile response from you Sir. As a german, I was merely stating my thoughts. Also, since this is a random youtube comment, I do not pay attention to perfect grammar and the like. I also love your "to be exact", right after I said something similar. Nobody tried to mock you I am afraid. Can't you take it with humor? Or at least not in such a serious way?
@EmeraldIsleStar watch "Shattered Glass" and then say that. Notice that in these films, Natalie Portman was bad, Ewan McGregor was bad, Hayden Christensen was bad, EVERYONE ACTED TERRIBLY. It has to deal with the director and the writing with how good an actor's performance can be.
I love these reviews, but I disagree about Vader. He IS the story. It's about his rise, fall & redemption via his children. It makes sense from that point of view. The fact that Lucas is not fit to direct traffic, let alone movies shouldn't blur the fact this is a Skywalker family story of salvation......& yes, Lucas ruined it all. He is a bad director who, in 1976 had a good idea. Lucas really sucks balls!!!!
@Caspian50 Well, for me Star Wars was never about Vader. It was about the fight against the dark forces, in the outside world and within us. It was only an interesting addition that Vader was the father of the main character, Luke. In addition to the roles Plinkett mentioned here, Vader was a tool to show that we can be thriumphant over evil even if our father failed. We are not the same and we can be better, no matter what we have in our genes. That we have to stay on the right path.
Order 66. The order to kill all the Jedis, THE MOST IMPORTANT ORDER EVER, is order 66. It's like calling the D-Day "Operation 43." or smth. What's order 65? What are the other 65 orders to begin with? It's like:
1. Pass some bills.
2. Have negotiations with opposing senators.
3. Order new materials for ship-building in Sector XYZ
@Malaikat31 Order 65 is the code for the removal of the chancellor. It was added to make 66 seem less obvious apparently (most of the orders were on their face absurd "what if" situations). The difference was that order 65 had a bunch of checks and balances that made it unlikely to take place and order 66 could be issued unilaterally by Palpatine [/Nerd]
Could someone put it a little more simply as to what he felt the whole story should have been about? He said he didn't want to see how Vader became Vader, but he had said earlier that it should have had him be normal, then be seduced by the dark side; therefore, become Darth Vader. @BloodyBart888 PS (didn't have enough space)
Darth Vader should, to fullfill the prophecy, ressurect the Sith so that they are in equal numbers and strenght to the Jedi.
CONCLUSION: THE PROPHECY IS A PILE OF NON-COHERENT SHIT CREATED BY POTHEAD, HIPPIE JEDI!!!
