Well.. it was exciting back in the day it came out... today.. its easy to see it as crap... because... even if not purposely.. you compare it to newer games.. and.. it cant live upto that expectation you develop because of them... i played it on the day it came out... it remember having alot of fun.. i played it recently for nostalgia... and it was hell.. not fun at all... bad graphics, bad physics.. just not what you see in the new stuff... bleh.

Because I hadn't really attempted to play the game before. I didn't know. My friends were telling me to play it, Valve sold the game for $0.98 on its 10th anniversary, so I decided to try it.

I may yet continue the LP. But I deleted about 2 hours worth of footage from after the latest part because I needed space. I'd have to replay that. And frankly I just don't have the time any more. College is keeping me really busy.

I think Half-Life 1 is boring. Well, at least by yourself. It's long and tedious. I did have loads of fun playing co-op HL1 in Sven-Coop though, My friends and nI ran through the entire game in 5 hours straight. I'm waiting for Black Mesa: Source, then I'll try and solo this game again.

I rather consider it 'interesting'. It may not be action-packed all along, but it has its charm. Also, especially in HL2, I sometimes can't resist stopping and admiring the artwork of the levels. I'm waiting for BMS myself, too, but my hopes are low, I don't think it'll ever be finished.

Well, they have release a trailer of it. Can't be too far off. Everyone though Neotokyo was no where near release when its trailer came out afterall. Then it got released and people learned how much it sucked in terms of fun.

Well, BMS, from the screenshots, seems very similar to HL2 in quality, and if it's the same HL1 story arc, I don't think it'll such.

Secondly, as a linear story-based game, HL games are more reminiscent of a RPG... some people consider them boring because of that. But the story is very catchy, I think. And it's fun in its own way.

I am a hardcore RPG guy. HL1 is almost nothing like an RPG o.o Maybe if it had an equipment system and a form of leveling I'd agree. It also lacks a lot in storyline. Well, HL1 does. HL2 has a great story to it, but HL1 just lacks it. As I said, I've played through the game now and still don't see much story in it.

Sorry about 'breaking' the definition. I know it doesn't classify as an RPG, I just mean that it's more about the story than you'd expect a regular FPS.

Also, the thing with HL1 isn't that it lacks story, but that it lacks story-telling the way HL2 does not. The story in itself is just as awesome, but you can't really get it unless you look it up and read about it. Again, I'm hoping for BMS to fix this :)

Hes doing a lets play, theres not much to say during the startup which is quite long and so is kind of boring when you just want to get started on the actual game. Whereas its alot easier to appreciate the intro when you're not trying to entertain other people at the same time.

Stop Complaining about the intro. It's not that bad and it builds up to the action. The Game would suck without the "boring", Beacause those are parts that help tell the story. The loading Screens are there Beacause the game was old and they used a program that only lets you map in a certain ammount of space. So they have SHORT loading screens that only last 1 second so it's almost completly continuous, as opposed to other games where the loading screens last anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds.

if you just use boot champ to install windows on your MacBook you wild have no compatabliy issues. i know because i have on of those new macbooks and once you install windows you can switch between systems without issues and there and no problems.

I shouldn't feed troll's like yourself, but when I'm in Windows XP I should easily get around 1000 fps if I disable the fps limiter (I mean, I'm on an Nvidia 9600 which almost gets 100fps norm on Half-Life 2 at max settings 2x AA 8xAF). The problem with this video is that all Windows screenrecorders are shit when it comes to recording the game sound, so I'm playing HL1 in emulation in Mac OS X and on top of that I'm running a screenrecorder and, thus, need to enable vertical sync.

I am not ashamed to admit my interlaced-video laptop pulls about 90 fps from Half-Life 1 on a good day. I think the most modern game I can run on this thing is from 2001 or so. Hell, Psychonauts rarely gets about 15 fps for me D: - to be fair this isn't exactly a cutting-edge gaming laptop, but having such a low-powered notebook has allowed me to truly embrace the classics like Quake, HL1, Deus Ex etc.
