I think the reason that this show spans so many years and so many generations, is because it showed real life of how a family worked and looked after each other. The was never the same after Pernell left the show. I know he wasn't fond of it and butt heads with the writers and producers, but he got along with the other actors, and they always remained close friends even after PR left the show. I read that as PR got older and time went on he became fond of Bonanza and was glad to be a part of it.

I loved the video! The music matched Adam perfectly!! I wish Pernell stayed in Bonanza untill the end of the series... but it's good enough that we had him for that long. He gave us all an amazing, unforgettable Adam Cartwright!

I liked the eldest character Adam, though the show show did fine without him for the next 8 years. Roberts decision to leave was foolish. And he struggled in bit parts for many years before his Trapper John series. Bonanza's later scripts improved a great deal with Mike Landon's writing and direction. Blocker even got involved a bit before his death. Roberts really offered nothing in that area. He was just the big brother that went to Australia and was written out of the show.
