You ever notice these songs from the 80s just don't know when to stop? Goes on and on and on...love the song but maybe not the last 3 minutes so much.
@tjbyrum1 ITS ABOUT SEX , HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF TRAIN/TRACKS+BIG DIPPER/UP AND DOWN+BUMPER CAR BUMPING/+FRUIT CAGE/HONEY BEE+SLEDGEHAMMER.
"Sledgehammer", won a record nine MTV Awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards, and the song is the most played music video in the history of the station.[2]
This video is one of thee best music videos of all time. You don't see music videos like this anymore. This was so creative. Man if I was a pop music star I would bring back this type of stop-motion video. This is a memorable video. Hats off to you Peter Gabriel....Hats off!
MTV has to have a diff business model b/c of the internet. People go on the internet for music, mtv wouldnt exist if they didnt have retards that love jersey shore.
@Connorfromchicago I agree. MTV generated higher ratings when they showed reality shows like Road Rules and Real World. People treated MTV like a radio, they would watch their favorite videos and then change to another channel when a video came on they did not like. MTV generated consistent and higher viewership when they switched to POP culture stuff. I agree I believe Jersey Shore is a dumbing down of a generation, all generations have them to some degree or another.
@kojakbangbang7 MTV should be put out of its misery. It doesn't deserve to be called "Music Television." It used to be hip, subversive, and even a little disturbing. Then big money got involved and it turned into a narcissistic circlejerk for millennials. Now, it's not even a shell of its former self. Some of us who can still remember its former glory should take a page out of the "Old Yeller" playbook and put the once great cultural icon outta its misery. RIP MTV (and my youth)
@modelmajorpita You make a good point. The channel's aversion to black artists/music in the beginning was ridiculous and it was always as much about hype as it was about music (i.e., video truly did "kill the radio star"... RIP Christopher Cross' career).
@cantecleer Actually MTV put image before talent. Madonna, an average singer at best, would have been a struggling artist if it were not for MTV. Artists with real singing talent like Christopher Cross faded because they did not fit the cool and young hipster image like Madonna. I believe MTV has had the most impact on popular music than any other media, person(s)or other cultural entities.
@pickydeer Hmmm... funny you'd say that. My second comment = "The channel's aversion to black artists/music in the beginning was ridiculous and it was always as much about hype as it was about music (i.e., video truly did "kill the radio star"... RIP Christopher Cross' career)."
@modelmajorpita Still, even into the 90's stuff like Liquid Television and Amp were departures from most mainstream programming. If you were ahead of the coolness curve, it was mainstream and commercial. But, if you were some kid trapped in Suburbia like I was, it was fresh and different. I don't even watch it now, but I can't think of any of the later programming that was anywhere near as mind-bending as some of the stuff I remember from the 80's/90's.
@wildcats2012 This is a thing we called "Stop Motion" in the dark ages before the Modern Era PC....its not that it cost a fortune...it was time consuming.
