Half the fans loved him and the other half said the only way someone would like him is if they were a kid or a girl. But he carried the company and in hindsight he's being called the best that ever lived, even by guys that hated him. I think Cena's legacy hasn't been realized yet. Maybe if WWE keeps going in this direction, a year from now that could be a good idea, but right now they need him in the role they have him. They should find a way to get the fans behind him again. Have him betrayed/beat down/screwed over, whatever will get the fans pulling for him. Get his momentum up, THEN turn him heel. If he turns now, it wont b as good as you guys are hoping. @asrarulhaq2002 all that would happen is the little kids would get upset, but WWE is in a very important time... a lot of the future is being decided now. They have to let things take shape first. Turning someone heel because its obvious is the worst reason to do it. The best heel turns are the ones no one sees coming.
Cena is not elite on the mic, but he does have some mic skills(rapping aside..which is amateur at BEST) . His character is annoying , but he DOES have talent. If you separate Cena the pro wrestler from Cena tha character, I think you will see more talent that a subjective eye can. Also, say what you want about Cena...he brought it for the CM Punk match. Both guys were AWESOME. I like RVD..he didn't have a bad word for anybody in this interview.

Those two turned it into a billion-dollar mainstream monster phenomenon. Flair owes his WCW success to McMahon, and he's an idiot for not realizing it.
@tweezy616 Not sure I agree with that. Whether the exposure of the business is good or bad, that's down to the indivudual to decide for themselves, there's no right or wrong answer there. But I wouldn't blame Vince entirely for said exposure, both ECW and WCW had a large hand in that too by making the storylines more real, and taking cameras behind the curtains.However you divide up the blame though, I DO believe that the industry was ahead of the curve on this.

When looking at the Cena vs Rock feud I think both are awesome. Rock did what he did to gain fame when he was wrestling and Cena does it every week today. I'm more than happy to see both men finally face off, and I'd be lying to anyone if I said I was unbiased in the decision. I happen to be more of a Rock fan than Cena but I respect the hell out of both of em. As fans we need to just watch and be entertained, so much hostility over this x.x
cena is only stale because of what the writers and vince let him do. look back to when he was us champ on smackdown makin his way up the roster. mic work was miles better and his moveset was like 5x what it is today. for christs sake i saw a match where he did a reverse atomic drop and a shoulder breaker in the same match. how often do you see those moves out of him now? hes got a decent moveset. someone backstage is limiting him. just sayin

Cena elite on the mic, really? I guess a rapping promo is considered "elite". Is promos have been stale for a few years now. They are pretty basic promos but every once and while he does have a good one. Now the Miz, here is someone who has had a good promo each week during RAW (end of Feb. '11-end of Mar. '11). Now honestly, Rock uses the same catchphrases but so does Cena. So exactly, what is your point? Cena didn't impress me until this past week on RAW.

The Rock was the best talker in the the WWF at the time because he knew how to get everybody's attention. It's called charisma and Cena has some but it will never like Rock or Austin. I'll give you an example: Booker T was a better wrestler than Cena but his mic skills aren't all that great like they do now.

@vergilheartnet John Cena is one of the bigger successes in recent WWE history. Though he does get showered with boos, he has the highest merchandise sales of anyone (Except the recent CM Punk) and still has a huge fan base. Like I said previously, the same has happened with both Hulk Hogan and The Rock.
A Good reason why it didnt happen t The Rock more than it was and to a lesser extent Stone Cold was because they were only ME for 4-5 years while guys like Orton and Cena have been longer.

Just because a majority of Cena sales (Not a fact) come from parents buying them for their kids does not mean they arent selling and doesnt mean that it isnt a success. @0658248998 I am aware of Miz being ranked number one but as was Cena (twice) as as well as Orton who people constantly rag on too. The PWI 500 isnt based on wrestling ability, otherwise guys like Danielson would be winning it every year. Its based on a combination of presence and booking which Miz has had in 2011 but as far as wrestling ability and 'hot commodity' wise, Cena is still better.

Things would be a whole lot different if WWE was run by the likes of Rob Van Dam or Jeff Jarett. I still like WWE and it's history, but WCW and ECW and now TNA all had/have the creative elements which made their wrestling and wrestlers real. The closest WWE came to being like WCW, ECW (minus the blood) and TNA, was up and to the end of the Stone Cold Attitude era. Vince McMahon has focused too much on making his WWE an over spotlighted, over priced soap opera which needs to give more to fans.
lol So he brings back ECW...and Sabu/Sandman...rest of them go get Drunk, NO SHOW their own event. Ask TNA. ECW was great, but not everyone wants to be in table matches. They want to be Bruno, they want to be like Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man...They didn't do hardcore matches, they had one on one, they had Tag Matches, they had some cage matches sometimes. I like Hardcore matches, but I understand not everyone wants to be Cactus Jack and Lose fucking teeth. =/

@MJRMR RVD WAS entertaining on the mic, in ECW at least. In WWE he was booked like a goof, saying stuff like "dude" and "cool man" in every damn sentence. In ECW, when he was let loose, his promos were NOTHING like that.
Blame the writers and booking for RVD's WWE character. In fact that can be said for a lot of guys who left ECW for bigger leagues.
@MJRMR Jeff had no personality. He was a Tag Team TLC showmanship type person. Plus he did drugs and thats a no no...Same as RVD. RVD is very awesome to watch, I love his in the ring performance...but I liked Tazz more then most of the ECW roster. He was a Technical Person more then a Hardcore person.
I don't have a problem with John Chena but I do think they kinda shoved him down everybodys throat as a face. Maybe not, I'm not a big fan but I did enjoy him as a heel character.

BOTH guys put up weak efforts and aside from a few humorous lines from each promo, both were a major let down compared to the first one. Cena DID own Rock last night on raw though. At the end of the day, both guys are elite on the mic and very poor in the ring. Both guys will be considered on the same level when they retire.

The Rock's "10 catchphrases" are worth more than all of Cena's Mic moments put together. The Rock will always be more popular than Cena and will always be on a higher level among the fans. This is why Cena gets blown away with boos....especially when the Rock's around. Cena is not elite on the mic. the Rock and Stone Cold are.
No Cena won the battle of words. Your a Rock fan and a Cena hater, so your opinion will come out biased every time. Me, being a big fan of both guys (if not a bigger Rock fan than Cena fan) am an unbiased observer and Cena won. There was no coming back from the fact that The Rock has acting like he was embarrassed to be a former wrestler for the past 6 or 7 years. Half the fans loved him and the other half said the only way someone would like him is if they were a kid or a girl. @DUBtheTIGER IN addition, HBK has had some of the greatest matches of all time... WM12 v Bret, Badd Blood - HIAC v Undertaker, Casket match v Undertaker RR98, all the ladder matches v Razor. Maybe if WWE keeps going in this direction, a year from now that could be a good idea, but right now they need him in the role they have him. They should find a way to get the fans behind him again. Have him betrayed/beat down/screwed over, whatever will get the fans pulling for him. Get his momentum up, THEN turn him heel. If he turns now, it wont b as good as you guys are hoping. Cena is not elite on the mic, but he does have some mic skills(rapping aside..which is amateur at BEST) . His character is annoying , but he DOES have talent. If you separate Cena the pro wrestler from Cena tha character, I think you will see more talent that a subjective eye can. Also, say what you want about Cena...he brought it for the CM Punk match. Both guys were AWESOME. I like RVD..he didn't have a bad word for anybody in this interview.

@tweezy616 Not sure I agree with that. Whether the exposure of the business is good or bad, that's down to the indivudual to decide for themselves, there's no right or wrong answer there. But I wouldn't blame Vince entirely for said exposure, both ECW and WCW had a large hand in that too by making the storylines more real, and taking cameras behind the curtains.However you divide up the blame though, I DO believe that the industry was ahead of the curve on this.

When looking at the Cena vs Rock feud I think both are awesome. Rock did what he did to gain fame when he was wrestling and Cena does it every week today. I'm more than happy to see both men finally face off, and I'd be lying to anyone if I said I was unbiased in the decision. Cena elite on the mic, really? I guess a rapping promo is considered "elite". Is promos have been stale for a few years now. They are pretty basic promos but every once and while he does have a good one. Now the Miz, here is someone who has had a good promo each week during RAW (end of Feb. '11-end of Mar. '11). Now honestly, Rock uses the same catchphrases but so does Cena. So exactly, what is your point? Cena didn't impress me until this past week on RAW.

Though he does get showered with boos, he has the highest merchandise sales of anyone (Except the recent CM Punk) and still has a huge fan base. Like I said previously, the same has happened with both Hulk Hogan and The Rock.
A Good reason why it didnt happen t The Rock more than it was and to a lesser extent Stone Cold was because they were only ME for 4-5 years while guys like Orton and Cena have been longer.

Just because a majority of Cena sales (Not a fact) come from parents buying them for their kids does not mean they arent selling and doesnt mean that it isnt a success. @0658248998 I am aware of Miz being ranked number one but as was Cena (twice) as as well as Orton who people constantly rag on too. The PWI 500 isnt based on wrestling ability, otherwise guys like Danielson would be winning it every year. Its based on a combination of presence and booking which Miz has had in 2011 but as far as wrestling ability and 'hot commodity' wise, Cena is still better.
Also I have tried searching for anything relating to Meltzer giving Miz a 5 star match and got nothing

Things would be a whole lot different if WWE was run by the likes of Rob Van Dam or Jeff Jarett. I still like WWE and it's history, but WCW and ECW and now TNA all had/have the creative elements which made their wrestling and wrestlers real. The closest WWE came to being like WCW, ECW (minus the blood) and TNA, was up and to the end of the Stone Cold Attitude era. Vince McMahon has focused too much on making his WWE an over spotlighted, over priced soap opera which needs to give more to fans.

They want to be Bruno, they want to be like Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man...They didn't do hardcore matches, they had one on one, they had Tag Matches, they had some cage matches sometimes. I like Hardcore matches, but I understand not everyone wants to be Cactus Jack and Lose fucking teeth. =/

@MJRMR RVD WAS entertaining on the mic, in ECW at least. In WWE he was booked like a goof, saying stuff like "dude" and "cool man" in every damn sentence. In ECW, when he was let loose, his promos were NOTHING like that.
Blame the writers and booking for RVD's WWE character. In fact that can be said for a lot of guys who left ECW for bigger leagues.

Look at hogan he didnt have wrestling ability but his ability to cut a promo was off the hook and the people loved him. the internet fans would love everybody to believe that the bret harts, the shawn michaels, the chris benoits were the best wrestlers but if that were true they would have stayed champ longer then they did. the in-ring ability is only very small portion

And his stuff was the same old shit and his matches were with the same old people. People got tired of him getting the WWE championship like it was a happy meal while delivering shit matches. But WWE is greedy and they want little kids' money. so i guess Cena stayed on top and no one wants to watch WWE anymore

All the Rock does is spit out the same ten catchphrases and get cheap pops. Cena very rarely raps any more, and no, Rock didn't own Cena at all the second time around. BOTH guys put up weak efforts and aside from a few humorous lines from each promo, both were a major let down compared to the first one. Cena DID own Rock last night on raw though. At the end of the day, both guys are elite on the mic and very poor in the ring. Both guys will be considered on the same level when they retire.

Me, being a big fan of both guys (if not a bigger Rock fan than Cena fan) am an unbiased observer and Cena won. There was no coming back from the fact that The Rock has acting like he was embarrassed to be a former wrestler for the past 6 or 7 years.
