salut dorin. am vazut clipul tau legat de problema cu skype citind un comentariu din ubuntu software center. indiferent cum l-as instala in momentul in care schimb volumul ingheata.
I get skype up only through command prompt (sudo skype). I get video but not microphone, though in sounds I confirmed the mic works and receives input well.
Outside command prompt I still get initial login and then it just closes out.
I did everything you said, and I didn't have a launcher icon from the previous installation, but it still shuts down after l log in.... I even tried older versions just in case but it's the same with every one! :-(
I uninstalled skype as you said, activated the two canonical partners, reinstalled skype, but when I try to start skype from the launcher, it still has the same problem. What to do?
@manoftheb8k did you try to search for Skype from the dash? you may have in the launcher the icon from the old installation. If so, then do as follows: (1) right-click on the Skype icon in the launcher and click "Keep in launcher" - the icon will disappear. (2) open the Dash, search for: "Skype" and open it. (3) optionally you can right click on the new "Skype" icon in the launcher and click "Keep in launcher". Tell me if that worked for you.
Dorin Ciorescu, I found your comment on Skype in Ubuntu Software Centre - it's the solution I was looking for. Why don't they activate Canonical source by default? it's weird...
ar fi super daca ai face tutoriale si in limba romana. thks!

Still doesn't work. Canonical partners and Canonical (Source code) were already checked off in my Software Center> Software Sources menu. What next?

@mowriter Also, dragging Skype to the side bar, the image remains invisible, though clicking that empty space pulls up the sign in window.
