@ da324... no, I didn't know them.... but, I lived in the South Park addition and went to South Park High... the Winters and many of their friends went to Beaumont High. We had a little Rock & Roll band and our lead guitarist (David Koon) used to go over to the Winters house to learn some of Johnny's licks. BTW... their old house was sold a few years ago and the family auctioned off a lot of personal items. My brother bought a pocket knife and a harmonica.
As an original member of "Johnny And The Jammers" I really enjoyed watching these two brothers perform together. Oh yeah, every musician who lived in Beaumont Texas back in the 60s now claims to have onced played in the Johnny and Edgard Winter Band. ;)

@GumboRon Did you grow up in Beaumont? If so, do you know Wayne and Donnie Weathersby? They were friends with the Winter brothers growing up in Beaumont, but didn't play music with them. Wayne and I are best friends and he's been hugely influential on my guitar playing. I'm sure it's a long shot, but thought I would throw it out there.
I have been a fan for over 40 years.... Johnny Winter is an ICON and is brother is right there with him. Ideas on how to get them both recognized the way they should be people?? HALL OF FAME... something!!
@star4blue "Please Come Home for Christmas", originally written and performed by Charles Brown--a man that greatly influenced Ray Charles' music style.
to wacoman49...i just put that on tonite....derringers rock and roll set..especially back in the USA is the best rock'n roll solo i have ever heard...when i was young lad learning guitar it was what i listened to over and over and over and over...one of my first concerts as a teenager was johnny in 74..the tour they made the album from..i was amazed...floyd radford on guitar as well ...wow...
Two brothers, both gigantic rock icons (at least in my damn book). I certainly hope these guys are in the rock & roll hall of fame. As you can tell, I've never been there...sigh.
bluehairgirl69 Weeellllllll.....I'm a white old timer and have a red-haired fine ex wife, does that count? I'm kidding............I'm really not that old. Glad you have a sense of humor and were not offended.
"People keep asking me-uh...where's yer brother? There he is..........Hey Johnny!!" That's from EDGAR WINTER'S WHITE TRASH, the ROADWORK album, released 1972. It's a double album ( am still playing it on my DENON relic turntable ) and it really rocks. Jerry Lacroix vocals, Mike McClellan trumpet, Edgar & Johnny, Bobby Ramirez drums, Rick Derringer & Randy Jo Hobbs. Great lin-up. EPIC RECORDS 31249 if ur interested.
@wacoman49 Got the very same album, and like you play it on my antique technics turntable...but hey, what an album, still probably my favourite live album. keep playing bud!!
Hey the greeninferNO...Don't watch much Simpsons so I missed the joke. Your comment seemed a little over the top so I had to over react I guess. Consider this an apology dude. About the 'get fucked', I do as often as I can, wonder if the blue haired girl is interested. PAX
Hey, let's not get carried away here. I love Johnny and Edgar Winter & I agree they are talented. If you watched enough Simpsons you'd know that I'm only joking. As for calling me a insecure jerk, you don't even know me so you can get fucked. Both you and wacoman49!
In the dictionary, there is a word, talent. Next to this word, this video should be mandatory. If we could get Stevie Wonder and a few others to jump in, it would be the total definition.
The Winter Brothers are guys that should be getting more attention for their contribution to American music; Edgar with his jazz, and Johnny producing several award winning albums for Muddy Waters, better do something before it's too late....
@myuleskinner62 They are legends of music and when I start to rant and rave about them, some people are like 'who?' That hurts...so much soul and incredible musicianmanship!
Saw the Johnny & Edgar "Together" tour in '76 @ Civic Center in Springfield, MA. The opening act was Lynyrd Skynyrd. All I can say is WOW!!! An unbelievable night!!
I was traveling In the early 70's and passed through Greenwich, CT.
I stopped there and found that Edgar Winter was doing a show at the High School.. Went there and walked in (no cost). while Edgar was playing i noticed Johnny sitting on the side of the stage. He came out at the end and they played together... These guys are excellent.
Thanks for posting... it brings back a lot of memories.
In 1974 saw Johnny open for edgar winter group, than after a 1 hour intermission both bands came out and played together doing a bunch of old hits, all recorded by the wally Hyder mobile recording van, with a following albumn. After seeing johhny at least 6 times this particular show was unbelieveable !!!
@allensteck I saw the same tour in Nashville, Tenn. - and a year later Johnny came back .with Fi=og Hat opening the show... both times both groups where laying it down.....That was way back there when we use to crah the gates at a rock&roll show. We aint too far removed from those days...

About as close as I ever came to be a fan of anyone in rock or hollywood! Yeah, I liked it best when Johnny and Edgar Winter played together, with Derringer. Never put a picture of them up on my wall, but liked their music a lot and something great about the look.

I do not know the answer to your question, "2468oldschooltimes" but I think maybe you're in the right track for it.
It seem to me, Johnny always lean towards more raw rock & blues and Edgar search for a more up to date beat & sound. But don't worry, even The Beatles broke up!
it just occured to me and perhaps a simple obvious reason why two different genres...the guitar loved by Johnny and the everything but guitar by edgar. what think ye???? In other words, what instrument is chosen greatly influences the musical style. ???. I dont recall edgar playing the guitar and perhaps if he did i wonder what would happen next.???
Yes, I wonder too. I think that there is an obvious difference in music taste but I also think that some poor management decisions were made during their heyday. I know they like playing together.
Thanks that youtube I am remembering thouse years. I was teen I did not have money to buy the plays with my favorites songs, this videos make me feel so good and thanks to thouse people who poste their videos too.
Happy 65th to Johnny today 2-23-09! One of my faves by the winter bros! Off 1992's Hey, Where's your brother? CD by Johnny, his last studio CD at peak form.
Johnny and Edgar are my 'Homeboys' raised just a few miles from me in Beaumont Texas. I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Johnny 'Guitar Slinger' Winter. It was at a little club in Cibolo Creek Texas. He was gracious and charming and COOL! It was a tremendous thrill for me after listening to his wonderful work for so many years. I have seen him a number of times. He ALWAYS blows the house away. I saw the two together at e reunion concert in Beaumont.
The Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon. Are you ready? You can be! For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Behold the Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon! Call upon the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be ready!
@SupernalOne 'Course they can play the the blues they grew up in Beaumont Texas, which sits on the Louisiana border. Both Johnny and Egar met and played with guys like BB King and plus Johnny was flat-out a genius of Blues interpretation. They played the honky-tonks and partied with all kinds of people before the record labels got a hold of 'em.
Actually, Johnny was the first white man ever inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame - before Clapton or Stevie Ray Vaughn - that's pretty indicitive of his amazing talent.
These two should have been BIG STARS but they didnt fit into the the corporate cookie cutter model of what "Rock Stars" should look like.. Both of them are awesome and should be in R & R Hall of Fame as well.. I think Johnny is in The Blues Hall of Fame already.
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand(SORRY BOUT SPAM THIS REALLY FREAKS ME
I saw them 'together' in 76, and they put out a LIVE album, called "Together" later that year. Fantastic show!! I just saw Edgar & Rick, a while back...... Tobacco Road ROCKS!!!

If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand(SORRY BOUT SPAM THIS REALLY FREAKS ME
