  • This might as well be a 50 mm review, you kept talking about it soo much. Not enough info on the actual Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM.

  • there are 2 new prime lenses with IS... 24mm and 28mm.... :D hope that helps

  • okay, price doesn't matter, and I'm wondering which lens/lenses are best for film making? I have an EFS 18-55 mm (starter kit) lens and it works okay, but I'd like something that really makes an impact. Any ideas?

  • What do you think about the Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP at $449?

  • you keep mentioning "50mm prime". I got it, it's 50mm, but there's the 50mm f/1.8, f/1.4, and f/1.2 which one are you speaking of?

  • @zach3493 I own the 1.8 version, check out my gear page.

  • I use this lens a lot. I love it :)

  • I love this video quality. what camera and lens did you use?

  • Have you tried auto ISO with zooming in?

  • @drumat5280 if you set the aperture to 5.6 you dont need to worry about the zoom while taking video, especially if you're outside where you have enough light

  • heavy? feel a 1d mk iii with a 70-200,, thats a work out.

  • THAT'S BECOUSE YOU'R A VIDEO MAN

  • I wish canon would make a IS prime trio. 28 f1.4 IS, 50 f1.2 IS, 135 f2 IS would be godly for low light. But oh, the prices :)

  • If you lock at f/5.6, is it still not possoble to zoom in and out during shooting the video?

  • very helpful

  • I am planning on buying a lens which has a constant aperture so i can zoom during video, do you have any suggestions?

  • @KingSkulkZ depends on your price range, the more expensive you get the more options you have.

  • @KingSkulkZ I'm thinking about the same; I've been looking at the Tamron 70-200 which is relatively cheap compared to the Sigma or Canon brands of similar focal lenght. At a 2.8 maximum aperture, its pretty fast.

  • What lens are you using when its the shot of your face talking?!

  • As far as the zooming in and out while filming, that's actually considered unprofessional by pro videographers anyway so it's not that big a deal in that sense. I do miss the zoom buttom the camcorders have though.

  • Thank you for your review! .. I decided to buy this one, instead of a canon 28-70 L (with no IS) ,,, regards!

  • The Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro lens is a prime with IS, Doug. It's an awesome lens, and just as good shooting non-macro as it is with macro.

  • Thanks for the vid, though you talk like you're confessing a crime. :p

  • Hey, i'm not sure so that's why i ask but what's the big difference between the 18-135mm kitlens and the 28-135mm except for the fact the 28-135mm has USM and the 10mm difference?

    Thanks

  • 2:28 is that your lapel mic hanging above you in the studio setup? I never thought of tryin that!

  • I am entering Fashion Photography, I want to do it for a living and now i'm changing equipment. I am on a low budget and I would like to know opinion on the utilities for this lenses with my future 5D. I used to shot with a 400D and 2 lenses (a canon 18-55 and a sigma 70-300) that need replacement because they have no stability. May I ask for your advice? Thank you so much!

  • What is the best way to avoid the grainy look in shooting with the T2i? I seem to get a lot of noise when I shoot video.

  • would you recommend it for my canon eos 450d?

    I'm mainly doing portraits..

    sorry for bad english :D

  • "focuses just as fast as the 50 prime" The 1.8 50 has terrible focus.

  • no shit its heavier than the 50mm 1.8. its like 3x the size, and its mainly metal.

  • i have to say the dslr cameras are way better

  • hey Drumat, how about the macro performance on this lens? hope 2 hear fr u very soon. : )

  • everytime i type in something to do with canon, your videos come up! your awesome!

  • @2isTheNew1 ha, I loved your comment, thanks!

  • Regarding the changing aperture, at 28mm you can set it at f/5.6 or higher, that way when you zoom in it will stay constant.

  • Hey Dave, I'm a big fan of your videos and I shoot on a DSLR myself. I was curious of what your setting are when you export your video from your editing program. All of my video looks horrible after I encode it from Adobe Premier.

  • @davcoolbeans I am working on some videos on that topic, stay tuned.

  • why would you need an ND on a 3.5 before a much faster 1.8? the 50mm is almost two stops faster. Are you sure you explained this correctly?

  • what lens do you film yourself with?

  • @Nichwyto most of the time my 50mm 1.8

  • Wich one is better 55-250mm is or EF 28-135 is ?

  • the lighting in this is way above average...Im wondering if it also looks good because this looks like its shot on a 50 1.8??? Am i right?

  • @williambrodie it is just natural light, I am pretty you are right on the lens.

  • @drumat5280 just ordered a 50mm F1.8 yesterday here in the UK for my new camera and a second hand 28-135 from the US eBay site just this second...

  • which videos do you mean? i did not find the concerned videos about noise.. you got a lot of videos uploaded

  • hello ;) i just got the canon 550d, and i shot some videos with it. but i just don´t know why there is so much noise in my videos. have you got some advice which settings could reduce this noise. I havethe 18-55mm lens, and the noise seems really high. Would it be useful to buy the 50mm 1.4 for better videos, also due to lower noise maybe? i would be really happy if you answered my questions .. thanks a lot ;)

  • @marquessmi check out the videos on my site I do have some that talk about noise.

  • @marquessmi get the ef 50mm f/1.8 it's about $100 on amazon...i love that lens! and the depth of field is bananas!

  • You're cool! Usually talking heads on youtube is awkward but your review was really helpful and visually pleasing

  • Good video, very illustrative regarding the effect of aperture change on video recording!

    All primes with IS from Canon:

    100mm 2.8L macro;

    200mm f2L;

    300mm f4L and f2.8L;

    400mm f4L and f2.8L;

    500mm f4L;

    600mm f4L;

    800mm f5.6L.

    For researching lenses, I recommend the site named 'the-digital-picture'

  • Does the front element rotate when you zoom?

  • @Superbeast1980 It does not. :D

  • yay, T2i..

    1 question. is there a problem with zooming with any lens, like you showed in the beginning of the video?

    I only shoot on primes, but I do some stuff which is not planned, and I dont have time to change lenses, will this be a good zoom lens with a great range of focal lengths?

  • Hey what camera and lens are you using for filming this video?

    thanks

  • @PTNMusic t2i with a 50mm F/1.8 for filming

  • 1:53 highlands ranch, co?

  • @xStraightEdgexH20 Superior CO

  • @drumat5280 got it. looks like HR haha.

    but as for the lens, have you owned at 17-85mm?

  • @drumat5280 I knew those mountains at 1:52 looked familiar! Hello from Boulder. :^) By the way, to answer your question -- the only prime lenses with image stabilization that Canon makes are 200mm and up.

  • Hey, you ARE using a t2i with a 50mm F/1.8 for filming, correct?

  • @bobos245 YEs, correct.

  • @drumat5280 Alright thanks.

  • you can zoom in and out when recording, you just have to set the aperture at or above 5.6 :)

  • @NathanielOfficial heyyy ur right!

  • Why not just use a constant aperture zoom such as the 24-105mm F/4L IS USM to avoid the aperture stepping problem?

  • @robhkycc because I am a hobbyist mostly and $1000 for a lens is too much for me.

  • I like how you showed the IS on vs off... most reviews say if it's good or bad but never show the difference. None of mine currently have the IS so never get to see the difference.
