@VS257 I don't know, V... is your opinion backed by any reliable source? To the best of my knowledge, the very President of the PASO (fyi: Pan American Sports Organisation) stated by the end of the Pan Am Games in 2007 that Rio's had been the best edition of the games ever. I hope you don't mind but I feel much more inclined to believed in documented facts.
rogge's elected as the permanent president of the ioc for eternity. there shall be only one belgian dictator of the international games. long live rogge.
President Rogge could have gotten the announcement slip out of the envelope sooner, but no he decides to take his time to open it and add it to the suspense...
barack HUSSAIN obama messed it all up for CHICAGO! What an IDIOT he should of stayed in AMERICA! What a loser... OBAMA SUCKS! CONGRATULATIONS TO BRAZIL! VIVA BRAZIL! LOL..
But Chicago doesn't have an international sports reputation. Sure, the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Cubs are notable teams to Americans, but the Olympic committee took out baseball for London 2012 because Europeans don't play it. Hopefully, they'll bring it back for Rio in 2016. And Chicago's Olympic bid was a ridiculous idea from the moment it started in April 2007 because we have a recession and terrorist threats. And where would people rather spend their summer? In Chicago or Rio de Janeiro?
...you think Japan and Spain didn't also have recessions?
And it's moronic to avoid all festivities due to "terrorist threats". We might as well have let the terrorists won, if we're going to roll over and play dead.
What festivities? Chicago is a boring city! No one's saying, "I can't wait to spend the summer in Chicago!" But I hate to break the news to you. The terrorists already won. It took boxcutters to hijack planes. Months before 9/11 the administration said that it was useless for pilots to carry guns in the cockpit. Osama bin Laden's still alive. But that doesn't matter there's plenty of terrorists hoping to lead their followers. And in Atlanta 1996 it took an AMERICAN terrorist to set off a bomb.
But do you actually think the things in the US are going to get better in 7 years? Even with a new president? Be realistic. I'm surprised that someone suffering from boredom can be so optimistic.
1. I don't suffer from boredom. This username is over three years old and was outdated by the time I picked it. I just needed something to fill in the "enter username" box.
2. I doubt things are going to get "better", but I'm not particularly miserable now anyways. Atlanta '96 didn't affect me. 9/11 didn't affect me. I don't really give a damn about Osama bin Laden; I've met people on YouTube that I hate more than him.
Well, VictimOfBoredom, your music proves that you don't suffer from boredom. I forgot all about Atlanta 1996 until this whole Chicago 2016 fiasco. But I see that downtown Manhattan skyline on my way to work in NYC. And I can see NYC's midtown skyline from my hometown. Downtown NYC is only visible during the winter. I can't escape the thought of Sept. 11 and Osama bin Laden. And I only came up with 5H1TH4PP3N5 'cuz youtube is one of the places where I think "That's life" & "It sucks to be you".
Brazil is an economic potency, made the best panamerican games in history in 2007 according to the IOC, and is a football, formula 1, tennis, martial-arts, sailing, athtletism, volleyball potency!!!!!!
Now we have to enjoy this oportunity to show a new Brazil to the planet and make sure that we can enjoy as much as we can these games and its socioeconomic impact.
when you don't have god things for to speak is better stayed with mouth closed, be able to apply that here.Congratulation Brazil!Sorry, but problems all countries has, don't forget this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Everyone....:-(
Im brazillian , and i think that my country Should use the fucking 60Bi R$ on security systems and education more than anything else, not in sports! what the fuck! i hate Rio! .
It's so sad to see so many people thinking we aren't able to make this happen. Those who have seen the 2007 Pan American games got a prove of what we can do, and be sure we'll make it far better in the olympic games.

Congratulations Brazil, but I doubt Brazilians have any idea about the history of Olympism and the values it stands for, I think you'll organise just a show..
Are you serious? I mean if you think Athens 2004 was good, then every other olympics since Los Angeles 1984 have been better!!!!! I am pretty sure that they know the history of olympysm. It is taught in every single educational system and by the way brazillians are pretty good in many many sports!. Please visit other place that Athens!
Congrats to Rio and Brazil from the U.S. of A.! Always thought your bid was the most intriguing and exciting! Looking forward to the show you will put on!

You forgot to mention:
- Japan has a much lower crime rate than Brazil
- Japan has a much higher GDP-per-capita than Brazil
- Japan's culture garners much more international interest
Every country has its pros and its cons. No need to get carried away and talk about how Brazil is "the best".
