The main difference is that it deals with a community orchestra rather than a school orchestra, and is very character driven (like it's not largely centered only on the 3 main characters)...many subplots. Drama Fever streams it for free and legally (in case that's an issue)

And that's where the similarity ends. Nodame is a comedy based on comic book that centres around the romance of Nodame and her love interest with Classic orchestra as a backdrop. Beethoven virus, though at times funny, is much more realistic portrayal of real orchestra and various ensemble characters who are overlooked losers

However, for the story, depth, theme and overall production value of it all and the way it addresses classical music genre itself, Beethoven virus does a far better job with a lasting impact for more mature audience.

Beethoven Virus is a much clearer presentation of the inner workings of orchestras. But, I did find Nodame focused on other necessary aspects of music/classical performance (besides her love interest with Chiaki haha) & still very valid in it's own right with it's own lasting impact.

@OsannaInExcelsis I did not see the animation. Perhaps the manga version is even better with details and musicality. I saw the drama. And while it was entertaining and the romance between Nodame and Chiaki engaging, it felt just fluffy. Which is what it should be as it lies more on entertainment. The musical moments as well as the story arc of each characters in Beethoven Virus I thought was much more complex and meaningful overall that everyone who once had a dream can relate.
