  • Masterful in their synchronized, improvized perfection.

  • I've probably heard this song a 100 times and I will never get enough.

  • An electric and swingin' performance by two legends. Does the full video of this performance no longer exist? I've read online that the bulk of "The Garry Moore Show" is lost.

  • @wholesomesweetness86 most likely since back then many of the tapes were reused. But wait... I've seen 30 seconds of this on that documentary on Ella, which means someone has the whole things somewhere. Luckilly this is an acetate and sounds rough but a document of the two greats for sure.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this newstart, you are a star!

  • What a rare treat. I had only heard the brief segment of them doing Lady Be Good before this. To hear the whole thing is really great. I've always thought it was sad that Ella never got in the studio with Mel (or Mr Sinatra for that matter), and somehow it was even sadder that Mr Torme suffered his stroke when he was recording a tribute CD to Ms Fitzgerald.

  • @tishaTS I felt bad about that... Norman Granz did NOT like Mel... and refused to let Ella record with him, in fact he'd on occasion ask even up until the 80s and Ella would stay loyal to Norman. But we have this gem, the 1976 Grammy Awards, and in 1989 at the First Ella Awards (Society of Singers). . And yes it is a shame he never go to finish the Ella album. That stroke he never recovered from. As far as Mr. Sinatra. Even being on the same label was "contractually impossible"

  • @newstart2009 Do you perhaps know why Norman Granz did not like Mel Tormé? He is one of the finest singers of that age?

  • @MrZekervan Norman was very honest about things he didn't like... Mel Torme, Stephen Soundhiem .... Norman did not feel the way we do about Mel. I really wish he would have recorded Ella with him dispite that fact. They were on the same label in the 50s and it would have been easy... we have three solid TV performances of Ella and Mel to enjoy which shows the album would have been successful

  • @newstart2009 It just shows that even geniuses like Norman Granz had their prejudices...

  • This must have been on The Gary Moore Show....that's certainly his voice doing the intro.

  • @LawrenceDavis It was ...The full 1961 medley from that show... there is a 30 second clip of it on Ella's Documentary

  • I never view other peoples comments before I share mine, Cos they are usualy better than mine, and as with this Diamond There is nothing left to say,

Hey! is that a music title. ? That's what I'll do. look on you tube. They have all the good N's

  • HEY wHAT A COMBINATION, NEVER HEAR IT BEFORE Love yo to death Ella Babe,

Mel! I always new you were good but that was Exceptional HOPE YOU GET YOU-TUBE UP THERE ? Be with ya soon, With a little luck? (got any connections there)

  • I just can't stop listening to this song over and over again. Ella forever the QUEEN, Mel I still feel is underrated. My favorite crooner period!

  • Ella, Mel and Michele Legrand were on a Merv Griffin show in the 60s, they did a number, probably Watch What Happens and it took off in improv scatting. If anyone knows where that is posted please share with us. it was the best.

  • mel tormé was never recognized at all. he was really an excelent scating and incredible drum and piano player too

    Enjoyed seeing it again

  • I just slapped the back of my head...

My grandfather was looking, I say was because he passed away, for this. I wish I could have shown it too him, he would have loved it.

You are awesome for having this sound clip. The two are flawless, and together, by gosh...

    Thanks again.

  • I wish so too :( Sorry for the passing of your grandfather. You yourself are awesome for enjoying it! It's people like you who I post this for

  • This is SO freakin' rare!!!!! I'm totally indebted to you!

  • I am totally indebted to Miky Scasso who gave me the recording. He passed away in 2007. He was a champion of champions as an Ella fan and music in general. I really need to repost the memorial tribute i did to him on my original account.

  • wonderful her first song was judy at the apollo theater.

  • My two favorite singers together! How beautiful!!

  • FUCKING WOW!! That was beautiful, it is a shame they don't record more...

  • sweeet...lovely combo.. t y

  • Thank you for posting my two favorite jazz/pop singers.

  • This is sooo gooood.I've been looking for a clip of these two from the 70s that might have been the Grammys, they are probably presenting an award and break into a scat duet I shall never forget,I know someone out there has it,so post it please,we're not getting any younger!

  • I saw a clip of that on the Grammy retrospect. They should issue the whole thing. It's amazing. Ella and Mel went over time scatting.... and again in 1989 at the first Ella Awards they sang together too.
