@klsjafksjdfklsdfjkls maybe you can try listening to the live versions, they are more Chris and less Timbaland, and his voice isn't masked by all the effects used during the studio version. Plus with Chris's showmanship, the songs are actually pretty fantastic. I love "2 drinks minimum" accoustic.

You know, I was around during all the soundgarden albums, but I don't mind telling anyone that I think Audioslave is a much better band than Soundgarden. They sound better musically and vocally.
Maybe the headbanger crowd disagrees, but real music has melody.
The first Rage Against the Machine album was nearly perfect and the first Audioslave album was fantastic. You don't get asked to sing the James Bond theme if you aren't one of the greatest stars out there. His version of Billie Jean gets him into the hall of fame alone. Yahoo sucks and yes it was reactionary nonsense and ignorance. Cornell solo and Timbaland? Yikes. I'm gonna say no comment.

Cornell only wrote about half of soundgarden songs. Ben Shepard, Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron wrote their share as well. So it's not surprising if his solo stuff isn't the same/as good.
OK. for all of you who think that Cornell's music isn't good anymore just watch the acoustic version of Scream performed live by Chris. listen to it then think about the fact that it IS a good song. it's his right to make a R&B/pop version of it and it's not "selling out". he's trying new things and he's still as good a vocalist and lyricist as ever and he hasn't done ANYTHING to deserve the shit that a lot of people seem tho be giving him.

The best singer is Freddie Mercury. although I think he is ranked #2 with Mirah Carey being #1, don't know why she would be number one over Freddie. Hopefully that will change. < I spelled Carey's lst name wrong. Anyway I love Chris and His voice, Smile.

he's made some amazing music and some stuff that i'm not that into.. if you look at his body of work, it can not be disputed that he is a truly gifted songwriter.
he is always passing over critics.. maybe he is heading avant garde nowadays since many people did not understand why he joined a project among Timbaland.

the problem is this. soundgarden and ratm were outstanding, original bands, whereas audioslave was middle of the road rock, and they stuck to the same formulas throughout. no one expected it to be so uninspired.
Ehh. . you could say the same thing with any of it. Rage was running a little dry, sticking with the same formula at the last half of The battle of Los Angeles. Hip hop inspired verse, hard rock riff chorus with zach screaming one thing over and over, wierd solo with overdriven bass. I Still love all of these musicians though. Audioslave included.

Cornell is the man. It does not matter if he is singing over hip hop beats, or screaming over the guitars of Morello or Thayil. He is the best at what he does.
I dont think its that easy to label Cornell a sellout. Knowing how "puritain" some of his fans would be, it was definitely a bold gesture to turn to hip hop. To no critical success, but still, I think the fact that he was ready to try shows his openness of mind with music.
Chris is a true artist with a penchant for change when he wants to venture out beyond the expected... and I respect that completely. A great guy and a great artist.

he was only one part of soundgarden, you take the band away, they take their influnce and styles with them. audioslave is just him playing with rage against the machine..... his other solo albums sounded different from both those bands.... this one he's just collaberating with that producer guy.... the lyrics are still cornell. does everyone get mad at matt cameron for not turning pearl jam into soundgarden?
I can't say i really like his new music, but hell, he's an artist and he's just trying out something new for a change (although I adored his previous music). Obviously people don't like it that much. The next album he puts out will probably be similar to his old music, or at least different from this album.
Hopefully, he won't stay with this genre of music. :\

The first Rage Against the Machine album was nearly perfect and the first Audioslave album was fantastic. You don't get asked to sing the James Bond theme if you aren't one of the greatest stars out there. His version of Billie Jean gets him into the hall of fame alone. Yahoo sucks and yes it was reactionary nonsense and ignorance. Cornell solo and Timbaland? Yikes. I'm gonna say no comment.

the problem is this. soundgarden and ratm were outstanding, original bands, whereas audioslave was middle of the road rock, and they stuck to the same formulas throughout. no one expected it to be so uninspired.

I can't say i really like his new music, but hell, he's an artist and he's just trying out something new for a change (although I adored his previous music). Obviously people don't like it that much. The next album he puts out will probably be similar to his old music, or at least different from this album.
