The fuel was not cut, the throttle wasn't even at idle, the pilot didn't have enough runway to land on, the airport he was landing at was closed to jet aircraft. This man shouldn't even be allowed to fly an ultralite
The title is wrong. It should have read Idiot pilot crashes plane with very poor airmanship. A plane, Citation or other wise don't crash. It has to be the idiot flying it that created the problem.
@hiimbrady Thank you sir. I don't like the name calling and I should apologize, but the Citations are excellent airplanes and they don't crash unless some one did some wrong, pilot or mechanic. In this case the pilot would never fly for me again. He made several poor judgment call which resulted in the crash. Any long time pilot can see the mistake he made.
@murderblade7 he was trying to take back off and when he cut the engines he left the ignition main on and it restarted with the power on full. lol i hate n00bs
Who would want to fly with a Charter Jet pilot that was not even Instrument Rated. Very strange for a charter pilot I would think. Weather changes so quick and its hardly an option to go to another airport 100 miles away because its raining where you are suppose to land and the airport is IFR. Also he filed and IFR plan but why would you if not IFR rated. Just glad I was not aboard after reading the NTSB report. Last few mins of that flight was crazy to say the least....
@MrJohnpaulson1963 The pilot MUST turn off ALL electrical system, and of course the engines, seems like the fear won over the pilot skills. There is a chain of terrible errors fortuately with no fatal results. I hope.
OY-JET , this aircraft skidded off the end of the runway while landing in Bader Field - Atlantic City, New Jersey USA. Fortunately, all survived. The pilot attempted to land on a wet 2 948 foot runway at an airport which usually does not accept jets with a 10-knot tailwind. But the airplane would require 3 500 feet with that tailwind
1) Strip is closed to jets and is too short for this aircraft, and the pilot knew this
2) Pilot approached landing downwind
3) Pilot did not abort downwind landing
4) Pilot touched-down half-way down the strip and again did not abort landing
5) Pilot did not complete emergency evacuation/shutdown checklist to cut fuel and electrical power, thus allowing the engines to auto-reignite and take the aircraft for a tour of the bay, you know, for the lulz
thanks for the information , I see many people saying that I'm idiot and so on .. So ?
Shall I be an idiot if I understand it as I know ? you guys could be right , but you don't have the authority ti insult others .. any human does mistake like I did .. so thanks again "jumboJetPilot " for respect I do appreciate what you said and respect it well ..
@MrAhaat What are you, a total idiot or the pilot (which would amount to the same thing)? He landed on a 2900 ft runway (Citation needs about 3500 ft in those conditions); he landed about 1000ft down the runway; he landed downwind-----> and the best you can do is blame the weather??
This, ladies and gentelmen, is why they teach math in school. That plane at that weight with the 10 knot tailwind he was landing with takes 3570 feet to land and stop. The runway he landed on is 2948 feet long. He landed 1000 feet down the runway leaving 1948 feet of runway. 1948 feet minus 3570 feet equals negative 1622 feet which equals splash. Also, that airport was closed to jet traffic and that fact was written by the pilot on his chart. DUH
@draesson a new citation costs between 15 and 25 million normally, the only way you could buy a citation for that little is if you bought a used 1980's citation III or older model.
@Flightkid9 Actually, the XL/XLS/XLS+ costs about $12 million. I know this because I fly them. The II is somewhat lower in price than the CE-560XL. The Sovereign and the X are quite a bit more expensive than the XL
@jumboJetPilot yes, I just did a quick search and the cheapest citation I could find was a 1984 Citation III which was in need of some pretty expensive repairs and possibly re-certification, and even then it was 4.3 million
@Flightkid9 That sounds about right. I'm not sure what new Citation Mustangs cost, but probably around $3.0 million. I know Cessna was aiming to keep them under $2.0 million but I don't think they were able to do so. But a Mustang is kind of like comparing apples and oranges to a CJ2, an XL, or any of the larger ones.
As for myself, as for the other airplane that I fly, the entire fleet is in the process of being re-engined at the price of $162 million per aircraft!
@Flightkid9 i went to controller(.)com and found some for 2million a 2002 cj2 and its use. but most people dont buy brand new ones and a 2006 cj2 for 4.2 million
with this idiot action, the pilot destroyed the last working engine too (crash damage +500.000$) - why didn't he wait for a boat pulling him out - or was that a crash-swim test?
In reading the accident report, it appears that the pilot mistakenly filed his flight plan for Bader (AIY) instead of Atlantic City (ACY) AIY-ACY. When he contacted approach he said he was enroute to ACY but the controller directed him to his flight plan destination Bader (AIY). Just one of a bunch of errors this pilot made.

Assholes in the boat have their heads right perfectly lined up with the turbine when the engine restarts, and then they continue to sit there for about 30 seconds. Spinning metal and blades tend to fly outward, perpendicular to fuselage when an engine disintegrates. BOOM HEADSHOT
@panda100123 ... That would be up wind not down wind... Traffic pattern is take off, turn cross wind, turn down wind, turn base, turn final, land. Flight lessons will teach you this in your first hour :)
Nope, it's real. This happened on May 15, 2005 at Bader field, Atlantic City NJ. This airport is closed to jets because the runway is too short at 2900 feet. This model of plane needs a minimum of 3,500 feet of runway to land with a 10 knot tailwind. OOPS!
Damn that pilot must have been so in much sh*t after that, not only did he crash a 1,000,000 doller plane but almost got people killed when he didn't do a full shutdown before leaving, he's so lucky not one got hurt.
@holylemonimthat I really dont think its sane to try to get someone inside the plane while one of the engines is running. Willing to bet they didnt do that.
Field too short, tailwind, ate up over 1/2 of runway before contact, and still had a fuel load on board. Must be on of the 250 "pilots" who went to that school in Florida that was teaching just the test questions to both pilots and A&P's. Not the best thing to call your boss and say that the plane did get a wash, but the interior got a little damp.
I dont believe the engines actually shut down. The pilot probably forgot to shut the fuel cutoffs before he scrambled out. After that water starts getting into the controls and electronics no theres telling what was shorted or damaged. Fun to watch though, great vid.
I have heard that this plane is equipped with an auto start system... basically put the throttle up, push button and you go..... water got in and shorted it out and the plane thought it was time to go.
"We got a nutball trying to land" did he say that cuz planes wern't supposed to land there (like something wrong with the runway or something) or just cuz the guy had a crappy approach?
AircraftCompare DOTcom provides exact details of around every aircraft in the world from the past present to the FUTURE FLYING CARS, with photos specs price and everything else. CAUSE: "The pilot's improper decision to plan a flight to a runway of insufficient length, his improper in-flight decision to land on that inadequate runway with a tailwind, and his failure to obtain the proper touchdown point. A factor in the accident was the tailwind condition."
Im sure his boss will forgive him. He only crashed a 22 Million dollar plane!

"We got a nutball trying to land" did he say that cuz planes wern't supposed to land there (like something wrong with the runway or something) or just cuz the guy had a crappy approach?
nythreefer 1 year ago
@nythreefer I would have to think it was because he was landing with such a strong tailwind.

CAUSE: "The pilot's improper decision to plan a flight to a runway of insufficient length, his improper in-flight decision to land on that inadequate runway with a tailwind, and his failure to obtain the proper touchdown point. A factor in the accident was the tailwind condition."

@classf50 It's possible the water could have shorted out the starter circuits. I don't have an explanation for why the fuel valves were open, though.
