i had that prob with my savannha monitor the reason he wips his tail and bites is cause he feel threated.. u prob look pretty big in his eyes... so get down lower until he knows your not a threat, make em feel comfortable

They really are amazing reptiles. They will eat just about anything, from mice/rats to lettuce or just chopped turkey. They are easy to handle, they might be alil rough a first, but the Black & White tegus are easy to tame. After a while, ive even heard of them responding to names like dogs do and will get excited when they see you...pretty cool, just google Argentine Black and White info, or something like that, and youll get plenty of websites to research.
