normaly (when there was no 3D) you get finishing moves by exploring them trough spending much much time alone with 2 controllers (you against nobody so you can faster get to finish your opponent). in the old days there was the possibility of doing a hardcore endurance ladder and after beating shao kahn youre able to choose the last symbol at the "choose your destiny" and get ONE random code (fatal,-babal,- brutal, animality). nowadays people hack the script and simply read them out
