  • vote up ! if you love challenger

  • witch pixel is the challanger?

  • Joe Higgins I believe played Nils Swenson on the Rifleman TV show.

  • @pieword : Yes he did. Joe Higgins was a neighbor of mine when I was a kid in the late 1950s and early 1960s and the Rifleman, Chuck Connors (among a lot of other actors) would come and visit he and his family regularly. Chuck Connors sometimes carried his famous Rifleman TV show Winchester in the trunk of his metallic turquoise Lincoln Continental and would occasionally pull it out to show us kids. Quite exciting!

  • isnt "BOY" now an ethnic slur? lol

  • the original Buford T Justice without a doubt.

  • Love this commercial, actual remember the ad when the car was new. Does anyone know where there is a better copy with more clear video?

  • just like a real cop

  • hal needham got smokey & the bandit from this

  • was this recorded with a piece of styrene foam?!

  • @gasmanswag96 Ha ha! Good one. No, just the film stock has aged badly, I'd say they just used cheap stuff at the time for ads etc.

  • i know the actor that played the cop. He used to be my neighbor when i was living in Burbank 15 years ago.

  • @smoooth517 : Joe Higgins, the "Dodge Sheriff" and a character actor in movies and TV was also my neighbor in Northridge, California in the late 1950s and early 1960s. His two sons were friends of mine when we were kids and they were the same ages as my brother and me.

  • look boy. that cop is such a character

  • i wish i was born 41 years ago with 6k $ in my pocket..

  • @Razastar1971 for a challenger and a charger!!! lol right? id do the same but go back to 69 and get a coronet 440 and maybe a dart gts or a copo nova!!

lol or 3 grand for the car and the other 3 for the surcharges!! damn insurance companies

  • WHITE PEOPLE

  • The actor playing the cop in the video is named Joe Higgins. Great guy. I spent two weeks at his house in Hollywood (1974) after he married a good friend's mother! I also owned a 1970 'Cuda for many years. Great memories. Too bad this old footage isn't in better condition.

  • @281shaker The actual film is fine; the problem is the transfer itself - and the compression. :(

  • over 40 years later, cops still use the same lines..lol

  • Sorry to say this but it is bad quality, how did you film this?

  • a real classic car

  • Was this commercial video taped with an apple?

  • these commercials are great!

  • they should revise this for the 2011 challenger! or better 2008 when they were intrduced or should i say REintroduced

  • You know Joe Higgins laso appears in a Dukes of Hazard episode, as Big Jim mckenzie in season two?

  • i see martin lawrence took his security guard character from the sheriff in this commercial.

  • Looks like a cel phone video of a cel phone video.

  • zoom out a lot and it looks a lot clearer

  • "now look boy, ya wanna get outta this ticket, ya gonna have ta suck my wiener"

  • One of my favorite old car commercials to bad there is not a better quality

  • Great commercial, but I can't give it a thumbs up because of the quality, looks some bad converter messed with the quality big time.

  • Super fantastic !! I have thought about this funny great commercial for decades !! This advertisement is an out of this world classic ! Why don't they remake it ? Oh, I do remember another version of this same ad, when the sheriff says "Boy, you're in a heap of trouble !

  • @fairnorth They can't reuse the safety sheriff spokesman because Joe Higgins bought the character from Dodge.

  • Haha! Nice JETZ. I actually emailed Dodge asking them if they'd like to reinstate the safety sheriff campaign, and they said no. The reason I asked was because my grandfather was the safety sheriff himself, Joe Higgins. I still have all of his gear from the commercials, the uniform, holster, even the gun. I'm a proud owner of a 71 Challenger and in the market for a new challenger as my daily driver. Maybe I'll email dodge again...although the current freedom commercials aren't bad either

  • The 70's.

The greatest decade ever. Best clothes, best music, girls with long straight hair, best TV, best movies, the drive-in and going to it in the best cars 1970 'Cuda, Superbird, Challenger, Nova SS, Boss 429, man talk about American Muscle at it finest 1970 was the year!!!

  • Hahahahahaha I started laughing alot @ JETZcorp Great They Should Do That Huh Hahahahaha

  • the policeman sounds like officer Buford T. Justice from smokey and the bandit =p

  • @ilovecats748

That's the Dodge Safety Sheriff, Sheriff Higgins (great guy).

  • Wow !! What a work ! A big congratulation from France, here the Charger is unfortunatly very expensive and rare...

  • Right- the remake would include the kid getting tasered and charged with a felony. They'd have to search the car too.

  • Where can i get a new one at the MSRP of 1970?

  • @silentrain45 How are you at building a time machine?

  • they actually react the same when they see new challengers. at least here whrere nowbody knows about it.

  • The original Buford T. Justice

  • Can anyone give me an advise. I got a 70 challenger with less motor almost done with all the work's that needed to be done. It originally came with a 318. What I motor can anyone reccomend that should put in. We can skip the big blocks (no money for that) but I do want something as a daily driver. Peace to all.

  • @sigreento

A 360 will bolt right in, its about the same physical size of a 318 and can make some serious horsepower if done right. Parts are pretty available and not too expensive. The 360 is a nice engine for a daily driver as well. If the car has the A904 automatic be sure to go through it. Also if the rear end is a 7 1/4 you will need to swap it out with an 8 3/4 since a mild built 360 would tear up that small 7 1/4 rear differential. Hope this helps, I'm building one myself. George

  • @gschoneman Thank you thats very knd of you. Due to finacial reason I wont be able to finish my project til later this year but your advise is just what I needed, Thank you again, Peace.

  • I've got an idea for a new Challenger commercial.

Have two guys in a Prius at a stoplight, when a Civic with a massive spoiler and bodykit pulls up. The light turns green and both drivers put the pedal to the wood, and the cars accelerate gently from the line. One guy gets out of the Prius (while it's "acclerating") and walks home. The race continues for a few seconds, then a Dodge Challenger blasts past both of them and stops at the next light. It's the guy who got out of the Prius!

  • @JETZcorp LMAO thats a good one i like it

  • @JETZcorp Now I must say, I dont like import bashing. And halfway through reading your post I was planning on replying & talking trash about American cars.... HOWEVER, when I got to the end, I must admit, that would be a great damn commercial :)

  • @JETZcorp that would be soo awesome hahah

  • @JETZcorp thats actually a pretty good idea for a commercial.

  • @JETZcorp thats fucking genious. did u send the idea to dodge?

  • @juliojrdn No, I didn't. I just assumed they wouldn't even consider it, but after seeing the Challenger commercial dubbed, "Freedom" I don't think they're as politically-correct as I had thought.

  • @JETZcorp are you....Stephen Spielberg :O

  • @JETZcorp now THAT would be bad ass!!!

  • @JETZcorp That would be the most awesome commercial ever.

  • Is there any more commercials with Sheriff Higgins? Too bad the quality of this commercial is poor!

  • they don't make the commercials like they used 2, how pathetic

  • haha that's awesome! That sheriff has a good eye

  • Miss my 70 Challenger, 383 Magnum & Automatic,

  • What happened?

  • The motor went into my 69 Roadrunner and the body I sold off, this was back in late 70's early 80's. I miss the Roadrunner more, had to sell it in 86 when my wife and I moved out of state.

  • Yep.... I miss my 70 Challenger R/T 383 Magnum 4spd

  • Sheriff Joe Higgins preceded Buford T. Justice.

  • haha holy shit this is awesome

  • sexy sexy car

  • we need more sherriffs like Joe higgins to run this country.....

  • this is my dream car

  • The 70's were just... better...

  • weird commercial.

  • im dodge material!!!

  • 3 words SUPER BAD QUALITY

  • its 70's what did you expect?

  • Burford T Justice

  • hd!

  • heap of trouble

  • Dodge Challenger? Heap of trouble? That's a contradictio in terminis my dear friend :p

One of the finest cars ever built.

    Proud to own it!

  • LickMyCuntMoFo.........5th husband....LMFAO!

AHAHAHAHAHAH!i'm still goin at it...ROFL and finally LOL...kay i'm done

  • my pops had a special edition,it had a smaller rear window..

  • My dream is to hollow out the body of a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T and take out the engine, put in a Fuel-Injected 392 Hemi V8, a puxton supercharger, racing tires, anti sway bar suspension, and an automatic transmission. NO NOS! IT RUINS YOUR ENGINE!!!

  • stop watching the fast and the furious its not NOS and it doesnt ruin your engine unless your an idiot and learn mechanics by the fast and the furious, and dont ruin a classic, do it to a modern car, might be a decent one then.

  • wow. so ur dream is to destroy a perfactley fine classic?!?!? jkjk good luck thoue.

  • Its your dream? Dream on bud. Don't kill the classics mate!

  • My 5th husband owned this car.

  • 0_o dam.... 5th? what you on now.

  • All together I had 32 husbands.

  • haa haa....that made me laugh

  • "I'm gonna bar-bee-cue your ass!!!"

  • good clip man

  • Junior PUT THE EVIDENCE IN THE CAR!

  • LOL..

  • I had a 1970 340 Challenger.I install Hurst Hi-Jackers air shocks- I ran the air line up to in front of drivers seat though the floor, jacked it all the way up & when they would pull me over- I would wait till they went to measure bumper height & reach down to start releasing air & I'd let her down. What a Rush to see look on Cops face! She was dark green w/ black bumble bee stripe around ass end. I surely miss her!!

  • Much jealousy here! I love the 340s.

I actually had the AAR 340 in my 68 Charger. Good times!

  • Love the challenger. Not a fan of this video though. I got a few good videos on my page of the new challenger and a review about it. It is pretty nice.

  • I used to have an autographed picture of him, "Sheriff Joe Higgins"-I lost it over the years-he apeared at a Dodge dealership here in Houston, or something when I was a boy, he, and these commercials were hugely popular

  • this is officially the worst video I ever seen in YouTube, recompressed 5 times I suppose.

  • '(laughin) i supposed that's a reconverterd lawn mower motor'

    omg classic!

  • Awesome -

  • They should do a remake of this commercial for the new Challenger!

  • i was thinking the same thing!

  • they should, but they should also do a higher performance version of the challenger, one with a supercharged v8 and new suspension

  • @SwiftJonny

Great idea only the NAACP would have a problem with the word 'boy'

  • @SwiftJonny that would be awesome! but the sad thing is back when that commercial was made you would see the dodge challenger on the race track for nascar, so they could say it was a race car. but now nascar all looks the same and they arent really stock cars anymore...

    its a shame

  • Man I have been looking for this for 30 years! Every time I see somebody pulled over by a cop I would say, "You're in a heap o' trouble, boy!" and my wife thought I was crazy!

  • WOOHOO!

  • half of those things you described the new challenger as were your own opinion.

    Ain't nothing like the original.

  • Look i wouldnt havent opened my mouth if i didnt drive the old challenger, it was a red 1971 challenger that i drove, and i must say it wasnt the best built quality, neither was the ride, it was bumpy, brakes were made of paper or something, it handled like a goat and neither was it comfy. but i havent tried the new one yet. and the 0-60 time was redicilous, at 5.8 seconds

  • 5.8 for the rt 4.9 for the srt

  • My dad has a 70 Challenger. Great car.

  • Hell ya im dodge Material, Cant wait to get the 08 Challenger!

  • Aint nothing like the real thing ! The original !

  • im with you there, although looking at the 08 model, Its surprizingly simmilar to the '70.

  • I hope you got like 50 grand. As for a new car its not bad I would rather have a 70 than a 08 any day.

  • really cute face but 2 bad she didnt like colerd people ha ha ha

  • WOOOOH Barry Newman was Dodge material in VANISHING POINT!

  • LOL, "Careful now Boy"...Imagine if they used a black actor for the driver lol

  • im gonna get me one of those, "american muscles" ain't nothin' better.

  • Yur' gonna' need a safety inspection...

  • Now I can be dodge material!

  • cool commercial. great car

  • Now I know where Jackie Gleason got his character "Sherrif Buford T. Justice"! For the Smokey and the Bandit movies in the late 70's. That's too close to be a coincidence. Awesome.

  • I wish I could own a challenger!!!

  • fyi this years car givaway from Ronald McDonald House is a "Plum Crazy Purple" 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Convertable

  • I'm not very trusty with convertables

  • mee too, i know it wont happen because i live in a shithole called UK where there are'nt any Challengers and it would cosrt alot to run. If i lived in USA i would plan on buying one though.

  • don't complain cause i'm in a worst shithole than you.. and i love muscle cars but there's none here!

vanishing point challenger it's my dream car

  • What a great commerical and car.

  • cool commercial.... love the car

  • haha. i likes that car

  • that was buford t justice

  • C pillar fit and finish was typically pretty brutal, so many vehicles were covered up with vinyl. Superbird is especially renowned for that.

  • Im dodge material :)

  • say boy, you that english secret agent from england aint ya!

  • -If the Dodges were still like that,i shure woul'd be Dodge material too!

  • the challenger is way better than the charger...

  • loll sweet commercial. not like new stupid car commercials

  • I´m sure, I´m Dodge material too

Si estoy mas que seguro yo tambien soy material Dodge

  • My first car was an orange (high impact hemi orange) 1970 Challenger convertible with a pistol-grip shifter. I think about it every day.

  • What id give to have a challenger

  • nasty sheriff

  • I sure am Dodge Material!

  • I own a 74 challenger last of its kind and Im love it theirs nothing like driving a muscle car nobody else has ,I know you know because I know its cool as hell .

  • Buford T. Justice was modeled after this sheriff

  • my uncle has the three dual carb version...forgot wich one it was.

  • the trippled carbed challenger was a t/a or trans am only one year production reaper

  • heee, to bad we sold it.

  • haha great commercial...I own a 1970 T/A Challeneger! Awesome cars!! MOPARS ARE THE BEST!!

  • They should totally revamp an old commercial like this when the 2008 Challenger comes out! Awesome video, awesome car.

  • im 16, and i own a 1970 Challenger 440, its out the back of ma house, and does it not go like the shit ;)

  • Im 16- i wish i had a challenger...I drive a 1999 Grand Cherokee my Dads got 2 1970 Roadrunners that i wanna restore

  • Great clip. I'm sure "Smokey and the Bandit" was based on these ads even though Bandit drove a Firebird. This sherrif was played by a guy named Joe Higgins. I got his autograph on a Dodge bumper sticker at an auto show back then. Thanks for the memory.

  • thats how u rice makers would react after gettin beat by one of these

  • DODGE RULZ

  • DODGE RULZ

  • Those were REAL cars! Maybe Dodge should bring back slogans like "You could be Dodge Material" back, especially when the new Challenger comes out! Sure miss the old ones! Love this post! Thanks for sharing!

  • Heh! Heh! Heh! "I supposed that's a reconverted lawnmower motor!" ROFLMAO! ! ! Thanks for posting this classic! I LOVE !

  • I love these cars!!!

I just hate people that disrespect these cars! These cars DESERVE respect! Come on!!

  • beatifull car but not as nice as the 1967 firebird 400 hp and the 1969 G.T.O 400 hp my dad owned both but while he was racing the gto he fishtailed hit a pot hole and flipped it

  • I love this old commercial! Just cant stand all of these clown head comments. Thanks for posting.

  • Damn, if i could go buy challenger for $4000 now...

  • Those piece of shit ricers are only good when they are new. Muscle cars appreciate their value over time, just like that challenger on the video. Ride in any 1970's ricer and ill bet you'd look silly besides them american muscle.
