  • :l i think you shouldnt have had wetsanded it... i think the resin was shiny and nice??.... ehh still debating to carbon fibre "Wrap" a longboard or make a foamcore...

  • LOL...Im back again...First, sorry for bothering you so much. Now to my questions. 1. Why didn't you sand off all of the graphic? 2. I saw a video on a custom carbon fiber-ed fsm and they bondo (like some filler stuff) the those speed cut outs or what ever they're called( like where the nose/tail meets the actual board theres those cut out parts) and my last is, have you curbed the board yet? If so did the carbon fiber start to peel?

  • @IamTeHe 1. I the graphic was impregnated into the wood. I was only sanding off the clear coat layer to get to the wood so that the epoxy bonds better with the board. 2. I think ur talking about the wheel wells. I was initially not planning on CFing that section and instead, just cut the cloth off showing the wheel wells, but after laying down the CF, i realized it looked good and decided to keep it. 3. I've curbed the board many times and have also done a lot of flip tricks. No delam at all

  • @effghan Hey there, I was just wondering what all the advantages are to adding a layer of carbon fiber to the bottom of a board. Does it make it stronger? And would you recommend I do this to a normal skateboard instead of a longboard?

    Awesome video by the way!

  • @MechWarrior324 Hi. The advantage of the carbon fibre is to make it stronger and stiffer. Because of the longer wheelbase and also where the feet are placed on a longboard, the board tends to flex a bit compared to a regular skateboard. The main reason why i CF my board was because I've had 3 friends that snapped their comet boards from doing tricks. I wouldn't recommend CFing a regular skateboard because it does make your board heavier. You want a light board for doing flip tricks and stuff.

  • @effghan Thanks man, I might not add carbon fiber to my board then. But I am going to be building a longboard one of these days, and I think I might go ahead and add carbon fiber to it, since I won't be using it for tricks.

  • sock with flip flops??? for real

  • im thinking of doing this for my friends mini maestro (due to the fact that he is 200+) pounds. will it hold him well if i do one layer on top and one on the bottom? please reply

  • @FilipinoyBoi23 200 pounds is fine.

  • @effghan do u know how much the carbon fiber and resins is online?

  • @FilipinoyBoi23 I'm sure you can find that out yourself.

  • Is it better to carbon fiber or fiber glass

  • @IamTeHe Carbon fiber is much stronger than fiberglass, but it's a lot more expensive as well. Carbon fiber is also stiffer than fiberglass.

  • @effghan Im planning on trying to fiberglass or carbon fiber a landyachtz time machine. It has 10 plys and its already pretty stiff. Im guessing youve ridden the board after its been carbon fibered so when its scratched does it look ugly?

  • @IamTeHe If your reason for glassing your board is just for looks, i'm sure you won't be scratching your board up much... I cf my board solely for performance purposes. I shred the hell out of it so the bottom is full of white scratches which is pretty ugly, but it's a tough mofo.

  • @effghan Well all i have is fiberglass and i cant find any carbon fiber anywhere. Also fiber glass is like 10$ for 9yd sheet

  • nice sandles......

  • Whats the stuff you put on the deck at 5:17

  • @LongboardBail I was just wet sanding with soapy water.

  • @effghan I feel stipid now... Lol But where did u get the carbon?

  • @LongboardBail Check the video description

  • its cool and all... but whats the point?

  • @StalefishBoarder To make it stiffer and indestructible.

  • @effghan nice but it does cover the graphic :(

  • nice vid and editing the only thing is i dont like plain black grips on thos kind of boards spose thats just me

  • i used to carbon fiber my boards but then i took an arrow to the knee

  • @MrWasurfer86 that is soooo old so in other words... shut the fuck up

  • @MrBillsquatch if you took an arrow to the knee you would understand

  • qual o nome da musica ?

  • @felipef2010 Check video description

  • How many ply did you put ?

  • After 18 hours, you can now roll up to your friends and go. "stealth mode: engaged

  • i like how you made it all black :D it looks so bawss i would do that to my derv. but only a strip going down the middle like an apex 37

  • That board must be stiff as hell :p

  • i wouldn't wanna ride it

  • nice sock and flipflop combo

  • .......But will it blend?

  • @DefinitleyNotMexican probably not

  • crocs and socks helz yeh boi

  • i just wasted 7 minutes watching im.....never mind

  • Carbon fiber works better in compression (actualy stronger) you should have place it on top or even better in sandwish! Nice anyway

  • @Skibumwill3 Thanks for the suggestion. I couldn't be stuffed sandwiching it. Maybe next time :)

  • @Skibumwill3

I deisagee. Carbon is better at tensile stress and flexural strenght. But it is a friendly comment, I dont wanna start a regular good old comment fight :) Maybe you have right, but as I know, it works like this.

What do you think, how much layer of carbon would be enough, if I would like to make one bord, just by composit materials, like glass, carbon, basalt and sandwich?

  • @kolbaszok it depends of the fiber your using but I can tell you that 2 layers of triaxial carbonfiber in sandwich is more than enough. It will give a nice flex and torsionnal rigity to you board! But hey, try your own receipe, it's fun and you'll find the right amount of flex you want! P.s. for your project of a home made board a good mix is 6 plys of maple in between 2 layers on carbonfiber, rigid yet flexible, light and solid! Have fun Hope I helped you ;)

  • Is the board completely stiff? Cause i want to do this to my 9two5 so it will be better for downhill.

  • @Sharpie426 Yes, but it will add a significant amount of weight to your 925 as well.

  • @effghan Seriously? I thought carbon fiber was extremely light.

  • @Sharpie426 If you compare CF and wood by weight, CF is stronger, but epoxy is still heavy and if you just add CF and epoxy to a board without taking off any wood, then you are still adding on a lot of weight. When comparing my carbon fibered fsmini to a full size board such as a vendetta, the vendetta is still lighter. The point of me CFing my fsmini was to make it as stiff as possible regardless of the added weight. 925 will require more CF than the fsmini.

  • @Sharpie426 im pretty sure its the fiberglass thats light on boards, and a lot of "carbon" decks have carbon stringers in them, so one layer isn't completely carbon. and decks with carbon and fiberglass are usually pretty thin too

  • @Hoser1358 or carbonfiber with a foam core such as the matrix from omen.

  • @Sharpie426 keep it mind making your 9two5 stiffer (which is pointless because its already very stiff) wont make it better for dh...just heavier and slightly stiffer (even though you wont be able to tell the difference)

  • hey epic video, Two questions.

How long roughly did this take and how much did the cost all together

  • @FluffyCowNuggets Thanks. Check description.

  • LOL i thought the song would finish before the video

  • @Thefingerboardrskid CHEESE AND CRACKERS

  • Do you know how much epoxy you ended up using?...and what did you use the utility knife for?

  • @gerbear3 I can't remember the exact amount of epoxy i used. I think around 100g per layer. I used the blade for picking out bristles that came off the brush. I used really cheap brushes.

  • dude this is extremely sick, i want to do this with a board but i have no idea what this stuff costs or how to do it so i would greatly appreciate it if you sent me an inbox message or made me a video or something showing/telling me where to get this stuff, a long story short way of how to do this, if u do that... i owe you one, because that would be awesome because i have a small board that i would really like to make stronger because, even though im only 5'5'' 115, i still fear it may break

  • You can have your cookie now, great job

  • I don't know if this has been asked yet...but did your board feel 128970987 times stronger after? lol

  • @gerbear3 Yes. It's a tank :)

  • this video never gets old :-D

  • thats rad

  • I have a question, I know what carbon fiber does because I've done fiber glassing and know it makes it stiffer and stronger... But what was the point of making a free ride compact deck stiffer? Are you using it as a dh deck??? But great video man, I wish I could edit videos this good :)

  • @themichaelnuckles Thanks dude. I use this deck more for tricking. I carbon fibered it so that it can take the abuse. Comet decks are not known to be strong. I've seen a few cracked ones. I also hate flex and this deck had a small amount of it. Hope this answers your question. Cheers.

  • Proud of you.

  • Looks like someone had a bit too much coffee

  • @RR5GUITAR: more like he had too much monster energy drink

  • thats one of the coolest videos on youtube (also love the set up)

    :D

  • very nice work. where did you source the carbon fibre veneer from?

  • @steve6493 Check descriptions. Cheers

  • Very cool man, i have a homemade board much like the fsm. i was wondering if you got instructions online, or where i could find them because i want to do the same thing.

  • @TheFacelessBrain Thx. I learnt how to do it through various videos on the net. Shouldn't be hard to find since there r so man of them.

  • @effghan ahh, alright. thanks man

  • @TheFacelessBrain try silverfish longboarding they should have something

  • how many hours

  • @vendeetts For the entire process or total filmed time?

  • @effghan process

  • @vendeetts Can't really remember. I think around 18 hrs. Started evening of first day and ended late morning of the following day.

  • what does this video and the song have in common?

    they are both sped up!!

  • +1 for the music!!! \m/\m/

  • @vlatko1 Comet boards are not strong in my opinion. For the fsm and fsmini, the trucks are situated farther up the neck than most drop thru boards. There's a bit of flex in the fsmini and i wanted absolutely no flex. I also do a lot of flip tricks and early grabs on this board.

  • What does the carbon fiber actually do? Just strengthen the board?

  • @oxXlukassXxo yes. makes it stiffer

  • :D

im gonna do that to my board later on.

    where did you get supplies?

  • @copanda63 Check description. Thanks

  • @effghan thanks

another question. how long did it take for you to completely finish this project :]

  • @copanda63 two days

  • @effghan alright thanks man

  • where did you get the carbon fiber sheets and how much did they run you? thanks!

  • @donghanyao Check Description. Thanks

  • at 5:32 are u micro sanding? and do u like zombies are they easy to slide on im a beginner and i want the slidiest wheels possible

  • @JEORGEGREEK I dunno what micro sanding is. It's known as wet sanding to me. Zombies has icy smooth slides. It's probably one of the slidiest wheels i've ever ridden. It also has very little urethane, so it doesn't last as long as other freeride wheels. I personally prefer abec11 classic freerides. They slide really well and still give you a good amount of control.

  • FUCKING. DIIIIIIIIRTY

  • wont the zombies bite?

  • @LLAPZable Depends on the bushings you use and the tightness of your trucks. I'm using purple venom barrel / purple sabre barrels all round with the trucks as loose as possible without the washers rattling. No bites

  • @effghan might get some then!

  • @effghan might get some then!

  • sexy

  • How is the FSMini? I'm looking for kind of a commuting board that's fairly small. I want something that cruises easily and hugs my feet really well. How does it handle pumping and carving? And can it handle speeds up to around 35 or maybe 40 MPH? I'm 5' 9 and around 135 pounds.

  • The only way i can describe that thing is sex on wheels O.o

  • @chloegoesboom13 the shaka is kinda long. but i like it. and the vendetta is like only 2 ply bamboo. its hella light.

  • @chloegoesboom13 i say dont go with loaded boards. the arent that great, and the price tag isnt worth it. ive got a dervish and its just a dead ride. get a vendetta if you want to do tricks and stuff. its also hella light. the fsm is also a great choice. and the new sector 9 super shaka is surprisingly fun and its pretty good quality.. and its only like 70 bucks for the deck.

  • yo man were you just using fiberglass resin? if no, what?

  • @chloegoesboom13 Both are good boards and will fit your size perfectly. The Tantien is slightly more flexy but is still pretty stiff compared to other loaded boards. If you're after quality, go with the Tantien. If you're after a board that feels great to stand on, go with the fsmini. Fsmini locks your feet in like no other.

  • @chloegoesboom13 It's a great little board. If you're looking for a board that is easy to carry around and still be able to do slides and tricks with it, this is the board. Get the regular fsm if you don't care about size and weight.

  • what are you doing to it

  • you really could've given it a much better finish, didn't look that nice, would've left the weave showing personally and built up a load of clear coat for a glassy smooth finish

  • @Hhmmmmmmmmmm I really didn't care about how it looks. It does the job which is to make my board super stiff. Right now it's so scratched up it'll probably make you cry. This is the first carbon fibering job i've ever done anyways.

  • why did you sand the bottom first?

how much layers of carbon did you put on the board?

what was the stuff you put on the board the thing with the brush?

what was that blue light and do you need it?

how long did it take you to do this?

how do you know how much to put on ( the resin thing?)

sorry don't know mych about carbon fiber but iam trying to make one

    please respond!

  • @fbrookebanner I skate with effghan and i thought i'd let you know that he is unable to access youtube for about 3 months because he's away on holiday.

  • @fbrookebanner go on silverfish and check out the board building section :)

  • ahhhh u have my dream set up

ok does the carbon fibre dry stiff?

    does it add much weight?

    does it cost much?

and how much does it do to the flex?

  • @DOUBL3SCOOP No flex, adds quite a bit of weight, cost around 70-80aud

  • great vid btw!!

  • i plan on doing the same with my board, but how does it make it heavier if carbon fibers light?

  • @blazzin3287 You're adding on weight, not taking off. If you want to make your board lighter, you cut a big hole in the board and fill it with foam. Only then do you sandwich it with carbon fibre.

  • where did u get the carbon fiber from

  • @MrGrayma FGI

  • did it add much weight?

  • @StringsCrusader Yes, quite a bit.

  • ok, i mean this in the nicest way possible.. You fucking crazy. THat was sickkkkk

  • Hey guys i was wondering where you bought the carbon fiber and is it carbon fiber cloth??

  • thats sick

  • dudddde thats so sic. i myself have an insect lightning bug which is also carbon fibered. i didnt know you could do it yourself though!!! i want a carbon fiber fsmini so bad. ahh, i can only dream about it...

  • How much did all that carbon fiber cost you? looks wicked

  • @EnjoiEmerica11 around 80aud

  • would this make it liter? cuz you didnt talk off that much wood and added a ton of carbon fiber and was it worth it?

  • @pdubs926 I didn't take off any wood at all. I added carbon fiber to increase the strength of the board. Comet boards aren't that strong and i'm 90kg.

  • @effghan ahh ok so the sanding was just so the the resen sticks in stuff? i thought coments were good boards though i thought they were strong for dh and freerideing well guess im wrong good job though

  • @pdubs926 Comet uses "environmentally friendly" glue and paint on their boards which aren't as strong as the unfriendly kind. I've got 2 friends that have snapped their FSMs. One of them also had to reinforce his voodoo with fibreglass because it was starting to weaken.

  • @effghan well i guess im not getting the voodoo like i wanted

i was gonna get it but not anymore ill get an avenger or something idk i wanna nice topmount i have a demonseed its cool i als have a dervish so i kinda wanna top mount for my collection

  • Very educational :)

  • @ltmangaka Glad you thought that way although it wasn't meant to be educational. Thanks :)

  • @effghan two questions-are your layers all oriented in the same direction, and what did this do to the flex (does a mini flex? i got a full size monster, and i'd really rather it quit flexin.)

  • @hereforthechicks Yes my layers are oriented in the same direction. No flex whatsoever and i'm a heavy guy. Before the cf job, the fsmini flexed a little bit. The point of the cf was to kill the flex. It will make your board a lot heavier though... unless you cut a hole in your deck and fill it with foam before you wrap it in cf.

  • @effghan right on. thanks a load bro. i guess i'm gonna go ahead and do mine up.

  • comment

  • great song choice.
