  • I plan on visiting sometime...........my Dad served on the Hornet 1960 - 1964. Thank You for the video.

  • As the product of Jewish and Gypsy grandparents, I can say that Allied vets like your grandfather were heroes whoe truly saved the world. What the 'Greatest Generation' did was truly incredible, and the Canadian, American, British, New Zealander soldiers who fought for the Allies were heroes of the highest order--God bless them all.

  • Today. Saturday October 30, There is a show Ghost Adventures about the USS Hornet.

  • I live like a few blocks away from the USS Hornet. I love going there.

  • the USS Hornet was a great experience for my kids when we visited the museum. What do you call the upper part.. The Island? If you get a chance, go check it out. but if I'm not mistaken, the old photos is from the older hornet that was sunk. I think this ship was used in Korea and Vietnam. But i could be wrong about that.

  • @MrChameleon2010 The original Hornet was sunk in WWII and this was renamed Hornet. Its crew (of which my grandfather was a member) fought through the end of WWII in many engagements. With the advent of jets, its deck was converted to the diagonal configuration and it served in Korea and Vietnam as you mentioned, as well as picking up Neil Armstrong along the way!

  • USS HORNET (CV-8) sunk in Battle of Santa Cruz. CV-12 was renamed in that ships honor and is Essex class, Apollo 11's crew was taken to this ship after their return from the landing on the Moon in July 1969, her last famous act before decommissioning.

  • Great work!!!

  • what is that song called? the one about meeting on some sunny day?

  • Thanks, i was looking for something about the Hornet. My great Uncle died on a practice run on it.

  • Your uncle died a hero. God bless him and all our military people for the sacrifices they made and are still making for us.

And thank you, Lynngraycom, for this wonderful trip down memory lane.

  • good job.
