Hey All: we were there the night of the disaster and the fire. Could not get the guests to leave. Everyone played 21 and Craps by candle light. One little half inch leak in the sub leaves triggered the emergency generators sending carbon monoxide up the tower. Cause of death was a heart attack. Buffet was cheep and not so good. Times have changed.
I remember working at the Landmark's Keno Lounge form '75 until it was closed.
What a great fun place. Rick, Lenny, Tony and Big AL . that is until the Mormon Aids took it over what a time to grow up in the 70's. Miss you all...Keith
I talked to a guy online who i think has now passed....Velvin Cooper who sent me a book he wrote about his days as a security guard at the landmark called TOWER IN THE SKY.
What use to be the fantasy and neon age is gone and replaced with the 21 century's luxury age. Im okay if they implode SOME old las vegas hotels and make them into luxury ones of the because you cant just make every single one a landmark ( Not to be confused with the landmark hotel ) and let it sit and rust and loose money but what I really hate is when they buy an awesome hotel and replace it with nothing.
@FireAlarmMan458 What would have been a cool idea is if for this hotel they could leave the tower and build the parking lot around it. You know like a LANDMARK lol.
Whenever I went to Fall Comdex, I always wound up eating at the Landmark, but I never stayed there. I never really developed a fondness for the Landmark like a lot of the other older hotels in Vegas, but I wish they had let it stand rather than turn it into a parking lot. Breakfast-$1.98, Lunch-$2.98 and Dinner-$3.98? Man, good luck finding prices like that in Vegas these days. :)
With today's soulless corporate Vegas, either bastardizing old hotels to make them "trendy" or imploding them and putting up some bland behemoth to attract the young and stupid, it's probably for the better the Landmark is now gone.
It's so funny to hear this after all these years! In 1917 we went to the hot air balloon festival in the convention center parking lot. Dad shot a picture of mom, my sister and I with the Landmark in the background. Thanks for posting these! They bring back so many great memories.
Tower in the Sky is an excellent book about The Landmark and Vegas and a love story too!

They knocked it down to build...a car park? That kind of translates as throwing away something and getting swett F.A. in return.

I've been to Vegas but I wish I cold have visited the Landmark.
