  • Alan is the King of 'nobody knows' - land!

  • Of course we have innuendo in America. It'd be silly to say we don't!

  • Were the background a Stephen Color Coordinated?

  • I am loving this line up!

Also, John Bishop's accent is fanfuckingtastic.

  • @pinkriffic no its from liverpewl...:)

  • who's the guy in the purple shirt? Next to Stephen...

  • why the fuck is alan davies always last?

  • @sincj96 In this one, every time Alan presses the buzzer, he gets points deducted as a joke.

  • I'm allergic to Brazil nuts. They make my mouth and throat itch.

Oh, the experiments and all the ways they could go horribly, horribly wrong...

  • I was hoping Sean would do his walking banana tree bit again.

  • I don't think the lawyer with the gun was ironic. I think if it had been the Prosecutor trying to show how the gun couldn't go off it would be ironic. That's just me, though, I could be wrong. Who am I to argue with Stephen Fry?

  • Of course Jim Morrison was born in a van, while Van Morrison was born in a gym !

  • Thanks!

  • 25:48 best lawyer ever! got him off the charge for FREE! AND removed one lawyer from the planet!

  • Ok, I was thinking about it for 9 series now, and MY favourite lineup is Sean Lock, Rich Hall, Bill Bailey and... that funny bloke with long curly hair.

  • that's it, I'm writing a crime novel where a man has intentionally transmitted a brazil nut to an allergic woman/man

  • Ironic is that a producer of meat products turned out to be a vegetarian.

  • Who the fuck disliked this ?

  • @TheHeineken1990 The fishmonger, whose daughter liked her ass felt, and George Fromby's wife.

  • @TheHeineken1990 2 management consultants

  • @TheHeineken1990 Satan himself. Or maybe Piers Morgan.

  • @slytown lol

  • Sean seems vaguely bemused by Frank around the music playing and afterwards.

  • OMG The new additions were AMAZING!!! I usually could stiffle my laughter but now I laughed until my roommate woke up!!

  • Actually, the reason behind the Brazil nut rising to the top is well known. It has to do with inertia and the size and density of the non homogenous mixture. As the bags are shaken around, the heavier and larger objects are less likely to move than the smaller and lighter ones. The action of the smaller objects pushes the larger ones to the top, and the entire mixture separates according to density. This is why raisins always rise to the top of the box of raisin bran and shaking makes it worse.

  • Can anyone else hear random noises every 15 minutes in this? Or is it the voices in my head?

  • How interesting! In the states, a "Chinese burn" is called an "Indian rub"... culture is so fascinating!

  • The ‽ can be created with an alt-code, ALT+8253. It doesn't work everywhere, for example, in this comment box it does not, but in my adress bar it does, and can be copied into here.

On an unrelated note, neither the story about the lawyer nor the captain were actually ironic in my eyes, merely coincidences, especially the cannon shot. An example for true situational irony would be holding a wedding inside a building to avoid rain, only to have a pipe burst and drench everyone present.

  • LOVE Sean's "COSTA RICA!"

  • Funny. What he refers to as a "Chinese Burn", I've always referred to as an "Indian Burn".

  • Computer programmers use the semi-colon after every line of code. That may be why it takes precedence over the colon.

  • @ElementzUK good observation!

  • lmao "got shot by a cannon"

  • Speaking of innuendo: watch?v=1HLatYsE-78

  • 19:30 Not quite; the interrobang is indeed in Unicode (code point U+203D), but it is not part of the ASCII character set.

  • Alan is getting almost suspiciously good at picking the Nobody Knows questions. I understand he's not lacking in intelligence and is very much on the ball, but something about it just seems fishy...

  • !?

  • typically I hate Jon Bishop, but in this episode he's fantastic.

  • I'm ^dying^ to use the sarcastrophe!

  • What a glorious line-up. Thanks!

  • Sean was quiet for a while after his dead rag joke. . . I didn't get the joke and thus not the reaction he got. . . Can someone help me with that? Oh and quit1nteresting; KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!

    A Dutch fan

  • @cleanwood34 it was actually "dead reg," or how a chinese person might pronounce "dead leg" because they have difficulty pronouncing the "l" sound. The joke might be construed as a little bit racist.

  • @fowad27 Thanks! I've heard 'racist' jokes that are much worse than this one actually. . . Even on this show. . . Still, QI is brilliant of course and so is Sean. . . And Bill and Phill and David and Jack and Lee and etc. . . Stephen Fry is the best though. No comparisson.

  • Really impressed by Mr Skinner's deep knowledge of Greek. His accent is as far off as my youth, but still!

  • I like that they're introducing new blood to the show.

  • You needed a translator for Johnny Vegas? You are going to need three for John Bishop.

  • Someone should have pointed out to fry that on "House" a guy almost died from eating to many brazil nuts.

  • @rayhs1984 I think you'll find that they are not nuts.

  • @rayhs1984 I didn't name the damn things or write the episode, but thats what they are called. I watched this video too ya know.

  • Chinese burn?

In America we call it a Indian burn because it makes your skin red.

  • The ray gun joke is hilarious

  • @pacmansays I love sean lock, never heard of him before QI.

  • Fry's suit is awesome!

  • XD How did he not know about the upside down question mark from Spain?

  • No, mention of Mr. B during the banjolele bit?

  • What happened to general ignorance?

  • my dad uses "my dog has fleas" to tune ukeleles

  • my dad uses "my dog has fleas" to tune ukeleles

  • For the record, there is no model of Ford called "Lincoln". That's another make entirely.

  • Watch out for that mountain stream. You don't know where its been.

  • I'm very worried now that we're going to run out of brazilnuts soon.

  • Why don't I have an Interrobang on my laptop‽ I want this!

  • @Fanouriou How youdid use the Interrobang!?

  • @Sparten456 *did you

  • @Sparten456 Either use the internet find the sign and copy ‽ paste. Or U+203D using the sign chart.

  • How did they have such little points, they were all interesting and I don't think the new guys set off the klaxon more than once.

  • How have John Bishop and Frank Skinner never been on QI before???

  • !!! "True story" IS THAT A BARNEY STINSON REFERENCE? Oh my God!

  • .....The perfect murder....

  • ahem. quoth the wikipedia: "The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) is a medium-sized cat native to European and Siberian forests, South Asia and East Asia. It is also known as the European lynx, common lynx, the northern lynx, and the Siberian or Russian lynx."

ie. a mammal with its latin name also as its common english name. well, the four genus of lynx share the "lynx" bit, and the eurasian lynx has the double version, which i've always found hilarious, fun to say and thus remembered when watching :)

  • @k4t4riin4 You didn't pay attention! Gorilla gorilla didn't qualify either, because that's not the same as its common name; gorilla.

  • @k4t4riin4 Yes but the common name is "lynx" not "lynx lynx" same deal with the gorilla.

  • @k4t4riin4

Not a correct answer, but Quite Interesting none the less, You loose 10 points, and gain 5.

  • NUTCEPTION!!!!!@28:20

  • I find it ironic that Alan, considered the idiot of the show, gets all the Nobody Knows questions.

  • John Bishop, articulate, dammit!

BTW I'm not from UK, but is it me or does his accent is a bit scottish? Or is that a normal northeners accent?

  • @Ph4nt0m5u6 He's Scouse... And while I don't claim that every other Liverpudlian sounds like him, it's a little unfair to ask him to "articulate", since it's simply the way his accent has developed. :/

  • @ohbother

    ^Subtitles would be nice though^

  • I just cheered for interrobang. My nerd flag flies high.

  • Well done Frank Skinner for knowing the expression "Κάτι τρέχει στα Γύφτικα"!

  • @IthakaSmi Is that what he's saying‽ I could not figure it out, especially since I've never heard of that saying.

  • @quite1nteresting Yes, albeit with a very pronounced accent. It's used to dimiss something as unimportant. Thank you for the uploads, it's a way of watching the show even outside of the UK.

  • @quite1nteresting Yeap. That's exactly what he's saying and I'm really surprised cause it's real slang Greek! In fact, that expression has been "out of fashion" for a substantial amount of years. It was really popoular in the 80's.I can honestly say that this was the most accurate Greek fact ever to be mentioned in QI.hahahaha

  • @IthakaSmi Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't realize what he was saying because of his accent.

  • Peter Falk Died June 23 2011, my 21th birthday, both the happiest and saddest day of my life!

  • what's with all the purple this year or have I just not noticed that before? completely trivial I know but it's just so purple!

  • I agree that John Bishop and Frank Skinner were a great addition. I have to admit I was a little apprehensive at first, going "hisss! newcomers! change frightens me!" but everything turned out great. I especially like the alliance between teacher's pet Skinner and headmaster Fry.

I'm a little disappointed that Alan mostly kept to the background, like in the previous episode. Could he be suffering from a little QI-fatigue?

  • @PrivateSchemers1 he's said on Twitter it's probably been down to the producer cutting him from most of the show (not thinking he's funny enough) but overall I have found him a lot quieter... understandably so in the Lee Mack episode.

  • @PrivateSchemers1 The new ones weren't as funny as the usual ones, I think. I prefer Bill, Phil J and Rich. Or maybe I didn't find John funny, because I didn't understand most of what he said. It was hard for me.

I think that nobody can say something to every single topic, so I think that Alan just didn't know much what to contribute.

  • @PrivateSchemers1 Thankfully I don't think Alan is getting bored of the show, they recently did a making of QI and he seemed really enthusiastic about it. I'm sure it's just a case of when the show was edited down his stuff just didn't make it in. :)

  • I never ever caught John Bishop saying something funny. Frank Skinner was great!

  • When I'm cleaning windows :P :D

  • I am 3 minutes in and it is a stellar episode already.

  • "Perge scelus mihi diem perficias." Proceed, varlet, and let the day be rendered perfect for my benefit. That has got to be the most bad-ass sentence in Latin I have ever heard.

  • stephen and his army slaughtering management consultants, ha.

  • We really should bring back the sarcastrophe.

  • needs more mention of percontation points

  • Are you going to post the new series, "Fry's Planet Word"? I would love it if you would...

  • "i actually feel i'm right in an episode of house right now" <- reference to season 4 of house MD?

  • I would say Sean Lock is one of my favourite guests on the show. John and Frank fit perfectly into the show as well!

  • two keys for a colon? heh, qwerty users

    azerty supremacy

  • @CamoClock

    azerty FTW béotch.

  • I love you. You made my day, thank you.

  • the upsidedown question mark in some text documents is from an unrecognised character, usually a newline character.

  • Alan has gotten all 3 nobody knows questions this series. I'm calling BS

  • @Fulcrum26

He's more than intelligent enough for that and he's got the most experience with the show.

  • If the Carry On films are mostly full of innuendos, then we do have a similar though perhaps less pervasive tradition in the US in the form of Mel Brooks or Leslie Nielsen movies.

  • I though Sean was a snaketologist?;)

  • i like these new guests but i wanna see some dara and David M

  • Also, John Bishop's Teeth!

  • Frank Skinner (interobang) He made the show.

  • Ah, inuendo? Americans do use inuendo, but treat it like the the pun - groan-worthy. Stephen is quite good at the punuendo.

  • Will someone please explain the "Frankie Howard, Carry On" tradition of joke telling to those of us who aren't familiar, i.e. Yanks. Not enough info to suppose.

  • Thank you, quite1nteresting!

  • the sarcastrophe sounds perfect! people always complain that sarcasm doesn't carry through emails/text well - I wish it was more widely used

  • Pretty decent showing from the newbies.

  • I know you get a lot of messages expressing eternal gratitude but seriously... THANK YOU for uploading.

  • I'm a little afraid of the enthusiastic way Stephen says 'fetid entrails'. Like maybe he's very excited about entrails...>.>

Also, I'm so. Very. Happy. Punctuation!jokes FTW! =D

  • John is quite hot, but his accent! Maybe because I am not from the UK, but I have been watching enough British TV over the past couple years to understand accents...but really he is just hard to understand sometimes. Is this a normal Liverpool voice? Still love him though:)

  • How the heck did Alan get last? He got a couple tough ones correct. He must have had some really wrong answers that didn't make the actual airing.

  • Great episode, a joy from beginning to end. Some nice running gags (particularly the handstand in the shower...)

  • As an American, I must say I take special pleasure in guests like John Bishop and Johnny Vegas, who make me question how well I *really* understand English. Because in a show like QI, you know it's worth the trouble to parse the dialects. :)

  • I think that's the third time Alan's buzzer has been linked to the forfeit klaxon...

  • @RelukaHaske I know of the one other one, but yeah, even two is too many =\

  • Oh, my, GBU,quite1interesting The XL, so soon? Not that I'm complaining1 This Canadian appreciares your uploads. This is some of the best comedy I have ever seen (and I'm about the same age as Sir Fry)..

  • goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooodevening good evening good evening good evening good evening good evening

  • I feel so proud of myself this week. I was able to wait for the XL without watching the original!

  • @Xanadis85 i hate myself. I was too weak

  • @Xanadis85 lol, I couldn't but I don't mind watching it twice.

  • @Xanadis85 Why in the world would you not watch the 'original'? I mean, who in their right mind doesn't wasnt a double dose of QI???? I may have to go watch it again to make up for you missing it...

  • @Xanadis85 You are a better person thsn I! I could not manage it :(

  • @Xanadis85 I couldn't stop myself. I just had to watch the original! :D

  • @Xanadis85 Ironically, I felt proud for making myself watch the regular version before the XL.

  • @Xanadis85 Good job! Usually I manage to wait, but this week I cracked.

  • XL... the only way to fly.

  • Thank you for feeding my new addiction!!

  • <3 I love you, QI.

  • Legend, cheers for uploading!

  • Gotta say, really like this XL, more segments and more John Bishop.

  • A glorious thankyou from Australia :D
