Scariest movie of all time? Eh...that's debatable. I wish William Peter Blatty would shut up. He talks like he reinvented the wheel. I didn't get to see it in the theater back in the 70's but caught it on HBO in the eighties. Eh, it was good but didn't send me running to the nearest church. I think Rosemary's Baby or Don't Look Now are pretty scary in there own quite subtle way. Since I don't believe in any of this stuff I find it more laughable----demonic possession I mean.

@madahad9 Yeah, altough i believe it's the scariest, there are a lot of movies out there which can compete with this one. Now, you have to see this through the eyes of the majority, who actually believe, or want to, in this good/evil duel. I actually don't believe but i find the using of an innocent little/teenage girl (and not little twins in unison) to be the vessel of a rotten and decadent being pretty disturbing. See through a 70's eyes or better yet, read the book, it's violent.

@CostaStrat I reread the book a few years ago and it is probably one of the worst written books I've ever read. Friedkin was the absolute right director to not let things get too out of hand and keep the story and characters grounded in reality . I went through that horror fan phase back in the 70s/80's and saw some good ones and a lot of bad ones. I saw it when rereleased a number of years ago and forgot how very slow a movie it was. It doesn't have the same effect as the first time

@madahad9 The first impact it's always the greatest and that's what's going to make up your mind whether you like it or not. I read the book probably an year or two after watching the film and i remember it was pretty violent, maybe to myself back then. Probably should read it again.

@CostaStrat Twice is nore enough. It made no great impression on me. I have read better books by Richard Matheson, Peter Staub, and some the old masters of the genre. This book is just poorly written. Ira Levin is a pretty bad writer as well. Very skimpy on actual literary talents. I did like Rosemary's Baby and The Boys From Brazil. Peter Staub's Ghost Story is a a great book. The movie was a shadow of the book. I hope one day they will make a true cersion of I Am Legend. Scary.

This movie wasn't really wasn't scary, it was disturbing. Especially when it came out nearly 40 years ago. I didn't scare people in the traditional sense as much as it plain freaked people out. People were running out of the theater shrieking or passing out or barfing. No movie before or since has caused that kind of mass over reaction. Some people even had nervous breakdowns after seeing it in 1973. That's why it's still the number 1 scariest/freakiest movie of all time.

Because it was not shot in the aspect ration u required. It was originally shot in 1.85:1 and it was the director's intention to shot it like this so there is no way u can get a widescreen release of this movie!
