  • oh wow... that was my Principal when i went to Hoover St Elementary School back in 1982

  • I like what the Principal said... The kids are here to learn...they need more learning & not less...Plus, the Hispanic Asian kids need to learn ENGLISH First, so they can do the work & live here... I was part of this program in Palm Springs... I got shipped to the mostly black kid school & them to ours... I had to take the bus to the other side of town.

Today schools teach less & English is a 2nd lanuage. :O( Live here in the US, learn the English to be apart of the country! English 1st

  • mr beatlequigon we love ur videos we dont care what people say or think ur videos r good beutiful old times memories please make more videos we love u if u still around here california we need more people like u to remind us our good old days thank u very much GOD bless u & ur family :)) :>)

  • That Nell Carter clip is cool. It's weird seeing her weight fluctuate so quickly between this and Gimme a Break.

  • OMG! I think that guy was the school principal at one elementary school I went to in 1982.

  • I think I vaguely remember that Jerry Dunphy was shot in the early 80s, when I was very young.

This is when the only area code was 213 in L.A. I love my hometown. I LOVE L.A.!

  • Ah the late jJerry Dunphy, the "Siver Fox."

damn... seeing him and hearing him again after all these years makes me feel like I'm in grade school watching TV while doing my homework. I was one of those wierd kids who like watching the news. LOL

  • @nosajj12345 He and another late, great LA TV news icon, Hal Fishman, were the inspirations for Kent Brockman from "The Simpsons".

  • "From the dessert to the sea, to all of Southern California...uhh Good Evening, here's the latest at 6 o'clock..."

    The original "Anchorman"!

  • the king....

  • mr. jerry dunphy. hello again sir.

  • rip jerry dunphy

  • I saw some of the old clips of WXYZ's Diana Lewis and KRON and WNBC's John Hambrick working at KABC in 1976 before Jerry Dunphy took the KABC seat in 1977

  • LA News is dreadful and the reason I tossed out my TV for good. It looks like the newscasters had a bit more integrity in 1980 than they do now. And I agree, it's the same LA with a different clothes (when comparing LA now vs. 1980)!

  • LA News and NY News is too much empashized on Tabloidalism while San Francisco is less Tabloidal than the rest of the nation.

  • was jerry dunphy EVER young?

  • Amazing. I was right in the midst of the bussing in 1974. I had a chance to get bussed from Downtown LA to Sherman Oaks. Thx for the memories

  • I grew up in Los Angeles (the south bay) and, omg, I grew up with Jerry Dunphy and Harold Greene on the news. Wow. They both moved around channels, but this is incredible historic footage. It's like L.A. has the same issues now, even the same commercials, but just given a 2009 facelift. Thanks for this.

  • the late great jerry dumphy. RIP

  • Great to see the newscasters actually presenting the news with (usually their own) notes, and some big laptop staring them in the face. I remember Jerry Dunphy from "The Big News" on KNXT Channel 2 in the early '60s. Unfortunately the last living member of that storied news team, Gil Stratton, passed away last year. Banfield is STILL at KABC!

  • what a trip, thats old skool footage

  • Yeah, Harold Green...he used to be in San Diego before going to Los Angeles.

  • OMG...Jerry Dunphy was my mother's favorite newscaster.

  • how do you get such good quality off these old clips? I captured a few old vhs's and they look like shit.

  • The person who posted this stated they were originally recorded on 3/4 inch U Matic video tape. That was a commonly used professional video tape format for years. The quality is better than VHS.

  • I believe Jerry Dunphy was the inspiration behind Kent Brockman on "The Simpsons".

  • the pizza snob is a registered sex offender

  • news was so much more interesting to watch then.

  • And Irvine Auto Center. Southern California was just inventing the concept I believe around this time

  • OMG. An LA phone number where they didn't have to give an area code, because it was all still 213...

  • Yes, you're right; most of L.A. County was 213; the 818 area code didn't come about just yet; and the rest of SoCal was 714.

  • 818 (the Valley) split from 213 in 1984. 619 (San Diego) split from 714 in 1982. I think 909 came about in the 90's.

  • I want me one of them GIANT vans with THREE axles! Swank!

  • wow this is such a trip!

  • Harold Greene looks like Ron Burgundy!

  • Harold Greene IS Ron Burgandy!

  • Bob Banfield looks so young! But the best part is Harold Green's mustache!

  • Yes! He does! Him and Will Ferrell kinda has a resemblence, too!!!

  • The only reason the IDIOTS would want it taken off is because they dont want you to see how stuff used to be. It is what it is. THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS!! GREAT VIDEO!

  • "From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California..."

  • " a good evening, here's the news!"

  • WOW...this stuff brings back memories!!!! Thanks for posting this! I hope nobody complains...for crying out loud!
