  • I need to point out something this program DOES NOT MAKE MUSIC IT JUST MAKES NOISES OR AT BEST SOUNDS and to be honest if you have a developed music ear is just anoying ,MUSIC is logical sequence of melody and harmony if is a good composition transmits emotions,This this hahahah is chaotic noise that after 5 minutes will give you a headache

  • XBAWKZ HEUG EPEEN

  • back of dzismer18. he has makes a living just to tell you. so sthu about "making a living". isn't it common sense that he does have a living? how do you think he can still live for all these years without money? dumbass

  • Now that is awesome!

  • if i had an ipohon i would buy that right this sec

  • ware do u get a head set 4 the ipod touch?

  • it's cool, but I don't think it worth the 3 bucks... in my opinion, if you guys think otherwise, I'm goo with that... but I can't justify getting an app like that for anything more than $1.00...

hey, $2.00 isn't much, but still, as far as the value goes, I don't think it's too worth it...

proved you wrong, Chris... I just had to say that...

  • Dagnit I cant use it because i only have an ipod touch!

  • I would buy It!!! If I had an Iphone. :(

  • rofl @ 4:25

  • I would buy this if i had an IPhone!!!

  • id buy it

or whatever else it works with

  • Only works on iPhone right now. :( I wanted to test it on my Windows PC.

  • duu It an ipohone app not a pc app stupi

  • That thing is just a freaking echo pedal attached to a microphone shoved into an iPod.

  • possibly the most annoying racket i'v ever heard

  • that things sucks why would you buy this?

  • Bah, I wish I had a 2nd gen iPod Touch. I want to try this. :[

  • does not work with ipod touch 2g

  • This is pretty simple compositionally, but it is a really good idea.

I've always thought that things like this will be the future of music. Instead of albums of pre-recorded music, composers will write programs that dynamically compose, based on a set of rules.

Recording things live is something I hadn't thought of in this context, though I have done it at live performances.

  • "Instead of albums of pre-recorded music, composers will write programs that dynamically compose, based on a set of rules."

That will be the death of music.

  • "That will be the death of music. "

lol. of course it will. Just like drum machines, synthesizers, rock guitars, jazz, recording technology and equal temperament all destroyed music. They didn't expand the vibrancy of musical culture at all.

The art of writing a program that could dynamically compose listenable music would be equally valid as composing in-and-of itself.

  • "of course it will. Just like drum machines, synthesizers, rock guitars, jazz, recording technology and equal temperament all destroyed music."

Except that those are all still created by people.

Just listening to this dynamic generation shows that there is no direction, no goal, no point, no feeling or expression in it.

    It's just blind fumbling.

While there are good mathematically constructed pieces of music, there's a difference between those and dynamically generated sounds.

  • Furthermore, we can't even get programs to pass a Turing test, which is simpler and only language-based. Not even language-based, it is merely based on simple comprehension.

There will not be any replacement or substitution for our own ingenuity and creativity, especially within music and literature, while programs cannot even proceed past a Turing test.

To suggest that dynamically generated sounds like this will be the future is absurd. This is nothing. This is pitiful.

  • RJDJ is very limited and boring sounding, but that doesn't mean anything about what we'll be able to do in the future.

You're being close-minded, and I dare say stupid.

To believe that a satisfying composition can only be made by the direct and deliberate hand of a human is naive and ignorant.

Raymond Scott claimed that his "Electronium" could compose on it's own, based on a limited set or rules he would give it. If he could do that in the 50's I see no reason why we can't do it better now.

  • "To believe that a satisfying composition can only be made by the direct and deliberate hand of a human is naive and ignorant."

I never said that. You're only naive and ignorant yourself, and with suggesting that I said such a thing.

We just have nothing that could even come close, yet. That was my point.

It's ignorantly optimistic to just assume as you do, that this WILL be the case. Fuck off. It might be, it might not. We don't know, but don't advertise crap like this as being the future.

  • I will say this with confidence:

The only way it won't happen is if we go extinct before we have the chance.

I am as certain about it as I can be. Look how much Chris loves this limited version.

Even if you could just program subtle variations into a pop song so that it is fresh each time you listen to it, why wouldn't people be interested in that technology?

And what physical law, or technological limitation will prevent this from happening?

  • Perhaps you are jumping to the false conclusion that I am claiming that computer-based compositions will replace all other forms of music. If that is the case, you are simply wrong, I don't have anything further to say.

  • "The only way it won't happen is if we go extinct before we have the chance."

    A confidently ignorant assumption.

"I am as certain about it as I can be. Look how much Chris loves this limited version."

Yeah, and some people love shit. Literally.

"Even if you could just program subtle variations into a pop song so that it is fresh each time you listen to it, why wouldn't people be interested in that technology?"

Did I say they wouldn't be interested? No.

    lol

  • "And what physical law, or technological limitation will prevent this from happening?"

I never even suggested that any law or limitation would prevent it from happening.

What I did suggest was that unless programs can do something as simple as passing a Turing test effectively, there will be absolutely no likely computer contendor for our own ability and ingenuity to create and generate music.

So far, this thing is just blind sampling and dynamic generation. Stupidly simple.

  • You are still misunderstanding my basic premise which is that COMPOSERS will *design programs* which ARE dynamic compositions.

You don't have to have a software that can pass a turing test to use random variables within a limited set of parameters which are predetermined by a programmer.

I didn't ever say that artificial intelligence will compose on your iphone for you, using the intelligence of a human being (which, by the way, is what a turing test is supposed to test for).

  • "You don't have to have a software that can pass a turing test to use random variables within a limited set of parameters which are predetermined by a programmer."

    That's not what I'm arguing.

I'm demonstrating the limits and lack of understanding and execution of programming by pointing to the absence of any Turing test passing program.

What you may not understand is, well, music and music composition in general. If you don't, then it's fairly obvious why you're making these arguments.

  • I am a capable producer and composer. I understand the programming aspect of this least, but I'm confident that something similar to what I'm talking about could even be done currently in Max/MSP.

Anyway, we clearly disagree, but we'll see what happens in the future.

  • There is no evidence that full sentient conciousness (which isn't even proven with a Turing test), is required for making good music (especially since "good" is subjective).

You seem to have presumptions about what music should be, and I think those presumptions are patently false.

Also, since you have me on the subject, there is no good reason to believe that we will never create software consciousness. I think it will be done in our lifetime.

  • shut up

  • Chris is a salesmen. I am losing my interest in his stream.

  • actually, he shows people new and interesting things, whether they cost or not, don't take offense just because he showed us something that costs, that is a great app and it would have been strange for him not to have shown us what we are missing out on

  • 8th!

  • I think Chris is trying to convince himself thats its good, when its really annoying.

Is he getting paid by sponsors for doing this?

  • Personally I think it is a worthless gimmick and I would not put it on my iPhone even if it were free, the noises would give me a migraine if listened to for more then 5 mins (had to pause the vid every min or two). I think it's nothing more then an ad but it is a good ad and at least he makes is semi-believable.

    Peace out,

    Jambo

  • I love it, I go find cracked version of it, thanks Chris.

  • O lawd, / files / 153626985 / RjDj_Album . ipa

    RS <3

  • It sounds pathetic, to be honest. It's a cute little gimmick, but not much more than that. I wouldn't waste even $1 on it. Meh.

  • Friggin awesome. It's worth buying an iPhone just for that. :D

  • those noises are leet

  • yoo

  • okay
