  • No. What was number one wouldn't give me any indication that your sister was using your ipod.

  • No....just no.

  • I love the harmonies in this.

  • sounds like my old car trying to get started on a cold winter day

  • @motig79 Hahaha agreed

  • So if I just bang on the instruments and call it "art", I'll still be considered an artist? Cool.

  • @SycamoreHill14 well if you suck at banging on instruments noone will listen to it or care. this stuf is actually really good music, its just being passed into a wood chipper.

  • @SycamoreHill14 You listen to Lil' Wayne.

  • @belphegor79 What?

  • @SycamoreHill14 Yesterday you had Lil' Wayne on your favorites... are you no longer a fan?

  • @belphegor79 Oh, God, as soon as I read you're original comment and then posted mine, I checked my playlist. Yeah, I gave my sister my itouch and she is using my Youtube account and made her own playlist. Did you see what was number 1, that should have given it away. I took care of that asap...

  • I'm not sure what kind of sound they're trying to cultivate here....maybe I'm not high enough.

  • @GodlessAeon that's for sure, man... you have just to listen to the album at least 3 or 4 times and then you'll begin to understand it.

  • @GodlessAeon im pretty sure theyre going for a sound of pure insanity and dread.

  • Beautiful Band. there music sounds like a huge fucking storm. Gusts of wind picking up houses and tossing them at you

  • good style! but it's better without vocal... i like this style, but sometimes the vocal...

  • What's with the self-righteous, elitist bullshit? "Trying too hard" or "this isn't music" and whatnot, are points lost to your own self-inflated ego, not in their subjective musical expression. Let the music be heard and shut the fuck up.

  • @CyclicalCynical I wonder if you understand the inherent contradiction in simultaneously demanding that the music should be heard while those who criticize it should "shut the fuck up." The music has no greater right to expression than its criticisms.

  • riff at 1:40 is awesome

  • Sounds like a Washing Machine

  • @Dinuhimself but, it's a very talented washing machine. it's kinda like enjoying the sound of a diesel engine.

  • I can appreciate lots of music and this is... Well... Pretty interesting.

  • can't listen to anything else these days, everything else is too normal

  • unnameable, faceless horror; house band for an asylum; these crazy Aussie fuckers would give Lovecraft nightmares. Beyond brilliant.

  • I feel like I have been raped in the soul. I feel unclean. Damn you, Portal, damn you and your music!

    (I like this.)

  • THIS is "TOO EXTREME"

  • Seen em live.. It was like watching a david lynch film in a sand storm.

  • @EdgeStormcrow Haahahah!

  • wait wat

  • It's called 8 String Ibanez Guitars

  • 2:46 onward is pure Immolation Worship

    Absolute Genius

  • People who say these guys suck are morons, plain and simple. It's one thing if you don't personally like it, but I would like to think most metal fans would keep an open mind when it comes to music. As far as I'm concerned, some of you are no better than those tools that listen to radio pop.

  • @PrimalBacon

this is some of the worst music i've ever heard man.

  • @PrimalBacon

this is some of the worst music i've ever heard man.

  • @PrimalBacon Most metalheads I've met are terribly judgmental within the metal genre and other genres, its shitty stuff man.

  • @KramLlessur Yeah, seriously. Most metalheads think eclectic taste means listening to both death metal and black metal.

  • @squizz222 THEY'RE SUCH DIFFERENT GENRES MAAAAAAAN. Lawl.

  • Woops, funneled this song into my keyboard for a second there

  • Ĵ̛̗̘̲͇̘̫̺͖̬̅̒̈́̾͐̿ͯ̈́ͣ̍̀̊͟ͅé̢̒ͦ̐̑̑̒̽͗ͯ̈́̔̏ͤ̊͜͏̢̯̲̱̲̯̩̮̼͚̻͔͎̯̯̘s̴̼̜̲̗̜͇͖̰̓ͬ̍̑̃ͧ́̉ͦ͒͐̅͑͋ͣ̇ͣ́́͘u̷̼͎̤͈͕̓̈ͣ͌̒̈́̔͛ͥ̅͐ͣͮ̚̚͟͝s̶̢̀̋͒̑͛ͧ̏ͪ̉̓̿̅͏̢̝̭̺̤̳̜̼ ̶̢̧̝͕͉̟̝͖͓̜͈͓̲̎ͯ̑̐̓ͣͦ̈̍ͯ͌ͮͦ̄ͣͩͭc͖̯̱̮̐ͤ̒ͤ̊̃̌͑ͮͫ́̾̎̉͂̚̕͠͡͠͡ͅh̒͑͌͐̃̈́̆̽̅̌̀̽͏̨̛̱̭͈̮͖̙͕ŗ̴͌̾̎ͦ̌̑͛͊҉̻̖̖͍͕̭̖͖̗͎̭̫̞͈̣į͔̱͎͍̗̐̐̑̈s̛͇̘͙̦̹̠̻̘̺͈͚͍̰̖̭̈̏ͪ͒́̃̈́ͭͮ̆ͯͤ̑̐͛̍ͅt͙͍̭̳̤̺̰̱̻̗͍̜̺͉̟̯ͣ̒̄ͬ̏̒͜͟ͅ,̋̒͋ͧ͋ͧ͌̿ͦ̇ͫ͆̇̐̓̔̚͏͏̸̧͔̥͙̗̻̳̟̹̜̺̝̼͓́ͅͅ ç̸̴̢͔̖̥̙͈͇̪̆ͤ̾ͬͮ̏͛̾̽͐͌ͫ

  • Inspirational.

  • Portal has an interesting style, to be sure. I don't think I've ever heard a band quite like this. This is the perfect album to listen to whilst napping in the afternoon. After a few songs the buzzing, droning guitars become almost hypnotic. Seriously, give it a try.

  • portals sound makes me ferment

  • Those guitars are fucking sick! They have a hypnotic/droning edge to them. I think it's safe to say no one sounds like these backwater lunatics. \m/

  • It's Atmospheric, Blackened Death Metal. Definitely an interesting take on it.

  • Its just noise folks. There are plenty of high quality death metal bands out there, why would you want to listen to this shit? This would sound fantastic in a horror movie, but its crappy music

  • I don't understand what some people are so 'OMFG!!!' about. Is it just that it's a bit coarse or something?

  • 1:35 I just came

  • 3 seconds and I already have a headache. White noise sounds better than this garbage.

  • This just fucked up my day... They're awesome.

  • ...did I just die?

  • Portal Sucks!!!!

  • reminds me ov sunn O)))

  • The instrument playing in Portal songs is really just for show. The real music comes from the other side of the dimensional tear that leads to unspeakable and horrid depths of the cosmos.

  • OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK?

  • The most important band to come out of Brisbane since The Dreamkillers. Most metal heads are into such thrashy rubbish that they are totally lost on the true greats; eg. Sabbath, Motorhead, Burzum, Brujeria. Rubbish like "the Big Four" + Judas Priest; totally disposable music that served a role as populists back in the day and will remain forever dated. Lars Ulrich: total douchebrain.

  • this band frightens me

  • what the fuck is the guitarist doing? lmfao. id love to see tabs.

  • 3:20 is just sublime

  • Comment removed

  • I know a genre this music fits in: Tintinnabuli

  • @marwutz Hmm... I never thought of comparing this to Arvo Pärt at all... interesting.

  • Check out Blut Aus Nord - much scarier :-D

  • @666flame666 Hey man, ever heard The Axis Of Perdition?

  • @MattBrien Seconding The Axis of Perdition, great band.

  • Impact since celtic frost

  • Cthulhu jams to this song.

  • fuck yes this song is great

  • Is it bad that this music calms me down?

  • @MacRocks713

It does have a sort of ambient vibe to it, albeit like nothing else I have ever heard.

  • @MacRocks713 nah dude. double bass lulls me to sleep

  • god this band is too good.

  • what is he singing about i looked up the lyrics i have no idea what the words mean?

  • The drums at 1:05 sound like my washing machine.

  • @alt9001 Hahahahahaha XD

  • that part at 1:36 is just so....crunchy. pretty sick i must say

  • @Watchmaker312 Not sure what you meant by wank free.

  • absolutely disgusting. probably what you would actually hear in hell, if such a place existed...

  • cool. black metal Dillinger Escape Plan.

    hipster shit.

  • @chompskyhomp I'm pretty sure hipsters don't like Blackened Tech Death, they seem to tend more towards stuff like Alcest.

  • @XxMinatoNamikazexX Hey now, Alcest is pretty awesome. Well, their newest album is anyway.

  • @LordRumpusaurus I never said they weren't, it's just more hipster accessible.

  • Wow....I've never listened to music and thought "that's just fucking scary." These guys have done something really impressive here.....wow.

  • never heard drums played this scarily before.. usually guys focus on flash and speed, its like horror drumming.

  • if Lovecraft was alive he was gonna masturbate on this..Damn allmost a year now at 3:15 i feel the Elder Gods break into my house and rape my brain

  • I bought this Album out of Canada... Fucking America NEEDS to get better music stores...

  • Doesn't get any better than this, aside from that sinister Impetuous Ritual debut.

  • Is surely could be called progressive, but the drums are just messy, no matter what your view on progressive music is. A damn shame, 'cause I really like the atmosphere.

  • @ricklieffering i agree. i love the music, but the drums are just your stereotypical black metal drums, where the blasting doesnt flow at all

  • @esb82593 If i had any food in my mouth while reading your comment, i would be cleaning my screen before typing my reply.

No flowing blasts in Black Metal? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? If you have never heard flowing blasts in Black Metal, then you didn`t hear alot of Black Metal to begin with.

  • @RogueAndroid ive heard quite a bit actually

  • this shits fucking weird he could be reading out of a users manual for a vacuume for all we know!

  • very mysterious and interesting ... i love it

  • strange how they have an origin influence but a completely different sound more like deathspell omega

  • @acidbath32 They sound nothing like Origin. Origin is generic wank death, and Portal is innovative blasphemous chaos. I can definitely hear the DsO in them however.

  • @godica333 Personally I prefer my death metal wank free.

  • @Watchmaker312 wank free /? lol

  • @Watchmaker312 How the fuck can you diss Necrophagist? One of the most solid bands live, and in studio.

  • @rsman169

they haven't put out an album in nearly 7 years now, for one

  • @Watchmaker312 One of my favourite genres is tech death.

But its only close minded bitches who cant appreciate this shit too.

  • @godica333 Ahahahahahahahahahaha that was awesome

  • @godica333 Necrophagist? hahaha

  • @godica333

just listen to it more, I couldn't hear the riffs very clearly at the start either, but as you listen to them more and more they become perfectly clear

  • @godica333 Turn your volume up then.

  • @godica333 necrophagist sucks

  • @godica333 have you ever once been in the time where there was a to go as far as to tell

  • my friend said that portal is a band unlike any i have heard before... he's not joking holy fuck lol

  • sorry, i have to say this, i love this genre, but this recording sucks. not the song itself, but record it better.

  • @csguy12 well as portal said in an interview, they try to go for a more natural sound with a balance of some digital assistance. The recording adds to the band's aesthetic, otherwise i have to say these guys are heavy as fuck, i mean the atmosphere created is so desolate, they're just so beyond most musicians its complete and honest inner evil

  • This is like Blut Aus Nord getting in touch with its inner death metal... While chugging glass... Interesting

  • Comment removed

  • @VincentVolaju Yeah, that's also a good comparison lol

  • fucking brutal ass fuck

  • Listening to Portal is the scariest shit I have ever experienced.

  • @Caconymic, the only thing scarier is the Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima. I would suggest listening to it. You can find it on Youtube.

  • @CodyRicheson First time i listened to that i had the speakers on really loud not knowing what i was about to hear, it scared the shit out of me.

  • @CodyRicheson no nothing is scarier than that song man

  • @Beenyad, if you're going to try to tell me that this (a great song actually) is scarier than "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima," you're a damned fool. Listen to that piece and try to tell me that this is more horrific.

  • @CodyRicheson Oh no, no you have me mistaken. See I meant that no song is scarier than "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima". No but this is really a good song. Probably the 2nd scariest band next to Godflesh.

  • @Beenyad, ah my mistake. Be sure to check out Gnaw Their Tongues, Nurse With Wound and The Residents for more disturbing music.

  • @CodyRicheson Bands I assume? Or albums?

  • @Beenyad, bands. While you're at it, Schoenberg's early is pretty disturbing, as is the doom/death/noise band Khanate.

  • @CodyRicheson dude Krzysztof Penderecki is a god :D

  • @CodyRicheson That piece makes you feel like something horrible is standing over your shoulder during the daytime... I'm terrified to listen to it in the dark.

  • @Caconymic This plus way too many to count... I'm tripping the fuck out on the whole Swarth album dude!

  • @Caconymic

Have you tried Scott Walker's album "The Drift"?

  • @Caconymic Try Sunn O)))

  • this is amazing

  • Comment removed

  • at first i dint really like these guys, but they seem to be growing on my now ;p some good atmospheric death/black metal here \m/

  • I think atmospheric death metal is a good term to describe this.

  • I just can't stop listening to it. I just can't. It catches you in a bass rumble and takes you through the cosmos, while you just sit there, enjoying the ride!

  • tune guitars out of drop f, thanks

  • @ronic123 screw u man!

  • I wanna hear this song when i die =]

  • in all its chaos, there is great coherence, which musta taken a shiteload a' skill.

  • pure hellish disorienting chaos.

  • beautiful i love this

  • I actually don't mind this :) thumbs up~!

  • I haven't heard any music in a long time that sounded so out of this world (sorry for my lack of a better metaphor). It's actually a little frightening but the song swarth definitely sounds more chaotic and bewildering to me.

  • Sounds like a slow, painful death, descending into madness all the way. I'm not sure, as are most of us, if that's a good thing or not. Its definitely heavy though. And very atmospheric. Love the chug at 1:40, SOOO heavy.

  • Will these guys ruin Black Metal?

They said the Beatles ruined rock and roll, but we know how that turned out.

Hm, I can't decide if this good or bad either.

"Is it good, or is it just fast?"

I suppose I will be blamed for not getting it.

    Katharsis is my personal favorite.

  • @WilliamofMunich

How can these guys ruin black metal when they're playing death metal? ^^

  • @Metalheadyup

Well they certainly SOUND blacker than many black metal bands. :D

With Portal, it seems that Death metal and Black metal have become enmeshed as a result of some head-on collision.

Out of the twisted wreckage has emerged the mutilated, psychologically scarred remains of an as yet undefined species of metal, transcending all others.

    Or not!!!

They have grown on me since my initial post, but I like 'Black Houses' better.

  • @WilliamofMunich It's simply an experimental mixture of atmospheric black metal and atmospheric death metal.

  • I can't decide if I like this or if I think it's ridiculously bad!!!

  • @soadratmetc ....your ridiculous. stay that way. commercialism needs sheep like you. so do old women that crochet

  • Incredible aura. Very hard to get into, but very awesome once you do.

  • Demilich was never "Lovecraftian," unless you just mean "abstract, weird, and alien." Antti never read Lovecraft.

  • i've always found most death metal to be rather comical. loved a lot of it but never took it seriously because of the subject matter. that said, most of what i loved was in the early/mid nineties. portal is the first death metal "if you can even call them that" band to catch my interest in many years.

absolutely brilliant, literate, and not comical in the least.

  • Thanks for your comical biography.

  • @OrTheThirdPerson the last ten years or so, for some reason someone thought itd be cool to mix hardcore with death metal, it was all core based death metal, or bubblegum death metal as i like to call it, i never liked any of deathcore, im glad to see true death metals bands finally emerge like portal and ulcerate

  • A band to give Nile some competition, and yes I am really stoned.

  • This sounds like jumbled turds with barely audible growls over it. I might like this if I was really stoned or something.

  • kind of didn't suspect you as a possible fan from the name<.< and of course it's not going to be the best quality since these guys' name isn't exactly common... and if you don't like it now, then how do you think it will sound any better when you're high when you don't like it now?

  • @OBEY1019 ....perfect name for you. obey. just stand in line a get your square pizza and kennel corn you stupid fuck

  • The idea for this band is great, I love the imagery they try to pull off, but the music, just the music.

I'd rather my music have notes thx

  • @RealityBend ....it goes over your head, like the load your daddy shots from your past.

  • the most beautiful thing ive heard since sunn. holy shit do these people come to the states?

  • They will be at Maryland Deathfest in May 2010!!! Be there!!!

  • holy shiiiiit, hail the new kings

  • i don't get it....are they political?

  • What you are listening to is unique and pioneering in exteme metal, after giving up with over produced technical death metal for 2 years now, this has rekindled my faith that there are people out there who REALLy push the boundries.

    Awsome

  • It's like some sort of Eldritch Horror from beyond time, space, and existance whispering forgotten words of madness into your ear.

  • Blackened Deathmetal ftw

  • incredible.

  • I love this band too much. My soul is damned!
