@ebizplanner It's still working great. Getting about 2.5-3 hr battery life. I don't play games on it much as I found it to be much to slow to play the newest games. Nothing has broken. BTW I take this to school 5 days a week so it gets a lot of road use.
@3rdchild79 Thanks for reply! One reason I ask is because I see so much online about over-heating problems with the Studios that leads to computer shut-downs. It's hard to get a handle on the percentage of legitimate complaints vs satisfied users. The fact that Dell sells so many PC's means that they will always have plenty of complaints about any given model regardless of the quality of the unit. Thanks again. :)

On the task bar's right side, you will find battey or power icon. just 1 click on that and you will see a small window and there you will see, "Adjust screen brightness" then follow the steps. your problem will be solved. cheers.

Hey I did the disable battery charge option, and now every time I try to charge my battery it won't charge, it just goes up to 100%. I tried to click it again to enable battery charge but it still won't work. My battery won't charge. Any help?

this computer is actually really awesome! i think the dell studio 17 is better than the macbook in my opinion. ive looked at some macbooks and theyre not that awesome aside from the apple that lights up before you first open it and after you close it

im getting the dell with the 5650. i was first thinking about geting the vario with gt330m but the dell is beter and cheaper :)
@TheBloodyblaze That I'm not sure. Try going to notebookreviews, in the forum there are many new people there that get this model. They may have it with your specs and can answer your question.
But to generalize for u, if Dell gives you the option to add it, then it prolly won't overheat unless you OC it. Not to say it won't get hot, it will during gaming. But it won't be damaged from overheating.

the rest of the specs: intel i7 qm720 (1.6-2.8ghz), 4GB DDR3 1333mhz ram, ati m4650 1gb, 2x 500gb, 7200 rpm, 1600x900 glossy screen. lid colour is chain link black.
and all that for aprox 1400$..good deal i guess..
ill tell ya how the multi touch works with CS4 and some other stuff which sounds fun...:-D
Ah, but if ya get the fingertapps, you have to get the chainlink black with red trim... (I know, having just got one myself...) I am going to see how the touch works with Vegas pro, Sound Forge, etc. Really high hopes. (And with the rest of the computer geeks out there, even higher demands...)

The Dell Dock increases boot time. I disabled mine because aside from aesthetics, it really isn't any more impressive than clicking the quickstart bar or icons on the desktop. JMO

But seriously, it's better to just go to the website and configure its yourself to get a price. By this time it'll be cheaper than mine.
Just remember. Every Thursday they have new deals. These deals will alternate between % savings or cash savings. I went with cash and saved $350. Keep on the look out.
i bought mine for 1200 and my screen cracked so i sent it in assholes said it would cost 500 cnd dollars so i took it to walmart theres a new place called mytech replaced the screen for 150$
i just received my brand new dell studio 17 after a month of waiting and guess what, it's f**ked up, when i turned it on for the first time, it said there was an error with the startup and that it may be a hardware issue but that's not all, their was another hardware issue when i got the system booted, wait, there's more, the webcam is f**ked up too, there's a green and red line static going through the video, there's 3 dents on the panel on the right hand side of the mousepad
the panel around the ports on the left hand side clicks, it runs slow, it freezes quite a bit, i contacted dell immediately and i told them they screwed up my computer in production and that i wanted them to either give me a whole new one, fix it or i want my money back and i spent $200 on the 1920x1200 resolution screen and it doesn't even seem like it compared to my old dell, for $1200 i want my money's worth and what i paid for, now another 10-12 weeks of waiting,i'm so pissed i could explode
how long did it take you to get your laptop, i see you have a design, i ordered mine with the derek welch horizonte del infinito pink and i ordered it july 13th and they said i should receive it by aug 13th, an entire month, i have custom features but custom features or not, it should not take that long and then they emailed me saying the order has been delayed until aug 20th for some reason, i'm trying to be patient with dell but their starting to piss me off

no it's not touch, you can get some that are but they cost a ton.
I'm getting one tommorow...1735 is worse than 1737 i'd go for the 1737 but the 1735 is cheaper by about £50 so it's cheaper for me (cuz i'm 12 :P)

Thanks for putting this video together. You did a really helpful and thorough review! I have one question: Do you know if Dell has fixed any of the minor problems you were talking about? (i.e. the speakers)

unfortunately, I don't believe they have changed the speakers. And if they are the same speakers, no software upgrade will help.

Just create a category in the dell dock, and then you can drag shortcuts into those categories.

You can have your computer on while its charging. It's up to you whether you want to disable charging once its at 100% tho.

Lucky for you when you do get it, you'll get windows 7 (or atleast a free upgrade for it when its out) with it, which is WAY better than vista.
