  • Good vid.

As a possible ad on, if the swr is high on the higher part of the chosen band, yet low on the bottom of the band.

Rememer the lower the frequency the longer the antenna has to be and vice versa.

So if it has a high swr at the low end of the band ad a few inches, if high at the top of the band shorted.

    (easy)

  • Why don't you use the Clansman dipole antenna elements as they were intended? Using the published lengths would be a lot easier!

Great video though - thanks very much and keep them coming!

  • @lordtapdoles I've cut the wire because I've made resonant dipoles for each band that I use -160m, 80m, 40m, 20, 17m, 15m, 12m and 10m.

I've have used this kit as it was intended with the published lengths but making these dipoles was a better choice for me as I can then use 4 bands in seconds with a flick of a switch with not having to take anything down for adjustment, Its possible to make quite a few dipoles from each element. While /P same pole & dipole = same resonance point.

  • @markbeermonster Sounds cool. Thanks for the reply!

  • Hi Mark,

how long is each element for your dipole? You say that a decent earth to the tuner is good...and adding radials. Do the radials attach to the earth too?

    Thx

  • Hi there

The dipole elements are about 31 feet each give or take a few inchs, i fold them back on themselves to make resonant where I need them

The earth isn;t so important with this dipole but when using my longwire then I've learnt that they are very important, I found it a lot harder to tune the wire without them.

Sorry for the delay and I hope this helps

    73 and good DX

  • hi,,im thinking of making a long wire antenna for my model b dx 394,,so i need it to cover most of the bands,is it best to go with the 100"full size wire or a few smaller ones,,cheers mate,,wayne.

  • Hi there Wayne

The wire i used in this video comes in 50meter lengths

I've used a whole one of these as a long wire and got it to tune from 160m-10m with my mfj manual tuner

As long as you have a decent earth to your tuner then you'll be fine, Also if it is a bit dificult to tune add som radials cut 1/4 wave length of each band you want to tune.

I have 12+ cut at 5m for the 20m band

I have others cut for the 80m band =20m radial.

    and for 40m band = 10m

    I hope this helps

  • cheers mate,i used 10 foot coax and attached 2x 51 foot lenthsof spot light wire onto the coax live and brade and it works great! lol,i dont transmit so dont need to worry bout the swr,i see you have 800 bearcat in the video too,i have one too great scanners,i also use a realistic pro 2006,and a realistic dx394 for short wave listning, into weather satalite decoding now too,got sum great maps, but i have to build a double crossed dipole now to get images, will let you know how it goes.atb wayne.

  • dont suppose you kow how to make a double crossed dipole in easy terms do you mate,,lol..bit confused at sum of the build instructions..all the best,,wayne.

  • Hi there wayne

I'm not sure what you mean about the double crossed dipole.

Are you talking about having a dipole with parasitic elements>?

If so i've tried it but it means you have to reduce the length of the original dipole as the seem to interact.

I'll make a video to show you

    Thanks for your interest

  • Tank you Griston for demonstration

  • Nice Radio i am on 145.625 at the mo i am a swl love the video give james a call now from lee in norwich hellesdon

  • Be aware that this tuner has two power settings.

On the 30w setting it shows 100w when transmit

if I hit the 30w/300w setting it shows the 10 watts that I'm using.

I can make another video to show you this function if required.
