  • I think that natural weight might have given you that edge over lighter ppl, and would have helped you increase your flexibility over time.

  • Also try ballistic stretching. Just some things i can think of. I am no martial artist or anything. I have a good-great amount of flexibility but I stretch everyday because Of DOMs an,infelxiblity, and lifting.

    Stretching has helped me increase my strength because i can contract my muscles more from the increased range of motion aquired by flexability.

  • thank you! iv been doing monkey wrenches holding my wrists under my foot stretching my calves and never understood why i couldnt do a split. Im a bodybuilder so i need to keep my flexibility high because i become inflexible when doing supersets.

  • Pretty good video and very informative! I've been trying to get the splits down for a while now. I'm naturally VERY inflexible, but just started stretching again this past summer. And.....I stretch ALOT....daily. Maybe around 45-60 minutes a day.

  • before the stretching you must run a lil bit.. I started stretching for a month now and i'm not far from the split (facial) now i must stretch my Hips to come down JCVD style ! ( i wasn't flexible at all)

  • your doing it wrong it doesnt take much . just progress foward until you cant feel much tension. thats bad to do it forcefully. i wasted my time like that. i need to do alot of stretches because i lift heavy wieght and you end up feeling so stiff and inflexible.

  • @pureefficient hey, i do martial arts and need to start doing splits better. im a 14 year old dude. you said that i shouldnt do it forcefully what do u mean by that? cause i have been trying every monday- friday to split as far as i can and it seems i never make any progress. help?

  • @ChelseaFC6528 splits are something that takes time. What I mean by forecully is stretching the muscle to far as to cuase joint problems although that is highly unlikely unless you are overdoing more then you think you can do.

    You should try static stretching which is basically stretching to feel a burning sensation. Then Every 10 seconds or so move the position more and more. The harder the more you will feel the burning sensation.

  • it varies from person to person, if you are naturally flexible, how old you are etc.

    just make sure you are warm before you start stretching.

    do it a couple of times a week, and don't give up, it is not gonna happen over night, remember to breathe while you do it and don't 'bounce' while stretching, that makes your muscle contract/pull together and you risk injuring yourself

  • Its because it is incredibly hard for guys. I have a girl cousin the same age as me that I grew up with that never stretches but can do the splits while I have been in martial arts for years and still can not.

    you cant learn !

    it takes time. you need to stretch 2 times a day, when you first wake up and before you go to bed. pushing yourself more eachtime. do not go any further if it hurts. i open my legs into a V and reach forward, over my left then right leg. then lay on my back and kick as high as i can trying to kick my head, then i grab it and pull. doing that, im not immensly felxible and can do all three splits

  • I am not sure why it is called "splits for boys". He isn't doing full splits anyway. A persons gender makes no difference to our flexibility potential. Tom Kurz demo aged 50 is worth looking out for. DC

  • Splits for dancing. Get the book Stretching Scientifically by Thomas Kurz. There is much to do and much to learn.  He also has a DVD which complements it somewhat. DC

  • he's so DUMB, to MAKE any SPLIT, you need to have previous SKILLS in exercise(either aerobics, yoga)or be TRAINED in ballet to have your legs flexible ENOUGH to STRETCH sideways, or to make that..."chinese" split, or front split. what you have to be STRONG is the sacrum(the bone joint where legs attached to hips).^_0

  • there is no metabolic reason why girls are more flexiible..... muscle mass doesnt matter...but the reason that gurls tend to be more flexible is becuase say u have a young lad playin football at school...when they finish there not exactly going to start strreching it out...and after u exercise your muscles contract so they get less flexible.

Greater muscle strength helps in achieving excellent all round flexibility. DC

  • It means like forcing yourself into the split and bouncing in that position. I think that's called ballistic stretching and it's been used controversially in gymnastics and forced stretching in children. It's very damaging. Just hold the position and then increase intensity and hold again- known as passive stretching.
