I hate that they ruined the Olympic AA competition with their wrong vault equipment. It would have been a great competition between her and Raducan just like Shushunova and Silivas. Sadly, the competition was ruined and no one takes it serious because the best gymnast in the world at that time was beaten by a wrong measured vault while doing a technique sensitive vault that needs the right measurements of equipments. I still don't understand how can something like that happen in Olympics!!!!!!!!
@msms68 No, that was the first round. She was pissed cause during podium training she wasn't able to do the vault Khorkina 2 even once. No one knew the vault was wrong at that time and she couldn't figure out what was wrong so she was worried even before the whole AA competition.
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 She's just so tall and skinny and I'm still stuck thinking about Nastia Liukin when I think tall and skinny gymnasts so it's just kinda weird to me.
@houndscheer1996 what do you mean by not expecting her to do a double pike? She also did full in many years. She is also not fragile, her upper body is so strong.
What i don't like about artistic gymnastics is women body shapes, like a mass of muscles, no lines at all... But Khorkina looks so elegant and graceful like a rhythmic gymanst!!!!! Beautiful!!!!!!
i just can't see it.. somebody help me to.. i am aware shes VERY talented and has great ability, but she has always appeared very gawky and stiff in her performances. and its hard to enjoy watching somebody who doesn't look as if they are enjoying Doing the performance.
Well, i don't understand how she didn't bounce completley out of bounse on her last tumble! Her 2 1/2 was so low, the double twist was completed near facing the floor! Bravo, good save really!!!
My fav floor routine EVER!!! Gymnastics needs a new Khorkina, nobody in gym today can touch that artistry! Actually....sorry there will never be another Khorkina....
i'm going to get very anti-american for a second and say, that i can't imagine EVER seeing an american perform something of this magnitude. i really cannot. it's almost impossible for me to see it. shannon tried to perform something of passion and just...hmm is something short of gracefull.
I totally agree...One could say mmm Nastia Liukin, but she's got a whole lotta Russian influences. When American girls do floor, it looks very ... Hey Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind... very camp!!!
I agree as well. I'm American and I'm VERY proud of what our gymnasts have accomplished. But, you are right, with a few exceptions, Miller was a wonderful gymnast, but her first training was in a Soviet camp. Liukin, well, she Is Russian. Dominique Dawes I don't think was campy, but no American could have pulled off the artistry of someone like Khorkina or Boguinskaya. :-)
Completely agree with you, selecious. I'm American and I don't care what anyone says, even Russian-American Liukin would never be able to pull this off. Miller? Please.
@mzmissa True, Nastia would not be able to perform this routine like Sveta, but she's very elegant and graceful on floor. She kinda reminds you of what gymnastics is supposed to look like.
my aunt is on the IOG and said that there's a discussion being made about a class possibly being established in the sport. you know like height class and age class. kinda like how wrestling does it. also a difficulty class.
it would definitely help narrow down the unfairness of things don't you think.
So instead of saying "this or that person should have won," you should say that you want a rule change, because the rules favor the gymnast with the highest total. And with the new scoring system, it is more possible that a gymnast can win with a fall.
Okay I am going to go ahead and spell it out. Many people feel that she fell off bars because she was so flustered after her fall on vault. She didn't know she was going to get the chance to vault again until AFTER her bar routine because they hadn't discovered that the vault was too low yet.
As for winning with a fall, how do you feel about Vanessa Ferrari's 2006 World Title? She had a fall? Should the rules say, "the gymnast who has the highest score without a fall"?
YES I WAS IN SIDNEY WHEN IT HAPPENDED! and i'm through arguing. The fact of the matter is, the gymnastics world believed she was robbed. And you are the first person I've ever encountered who doesn't understand why everyone felt that way in 2000, and still DO.
Had the vault been set up properly, things may or may not have been different. With Khorkina's capabilities, everyone knows it would have been different. Those who believe in her capabilities (and I must say there are many) believed she would've won had the vault been properly set, hence why everyone claims "SHE WAS ROBBED OF THE GOLD"
Are you kidding me, you're the ONLY person I've ever heard of arguing against her in this matter. This story was all over the place in 2000.
Svetlana qualified first in the Olympics and Gold was hers to take without a doubt. Then the girl fell on vault and did everything exactly as she always had and could not figure out what she did wrong and if you've ever competed before in any event, that is a major confidence shatter. ... cont.

There are things you are missing. I'll let you figure it out. There is a perfectly logical reason why I would think she was robbed even though she fell off the bars. Listen closely to the commentators :-).
She was, without a doubt, the best gymnast in the world in 2000. She was so robbed in the all-around and I will never get over it. As far as I am concerned, there is no all-around winner that for that year.
@Sweetcleopatraa oh wow thats interesting i never knew that

I'm normally not a fan of Khorky, but this routine was fabulous. It's got great dance, but not very energetic.

Miller was no ballerina, but compared to her compatriots, she did an excellent job hiding it. Gotta give her props for trying!
But Sveta could dance circles around all American gymnasts combined!
