Its funny how people are mad about the drivers.. Really? The car is slow as dirt. Its slower than every other sports coupe. SRT4, Cobalt ss, Lancer Ralliart.. Civics have 197hp. Why is everyone so pissed about the times like they're surprised about the outcome or something...
Wow that's slow! But the car looks nice! Maybe I'll get it instead of the GTI. I don't know my current car is fast but not as nice. I can't make up my mind.
@Seadgaranovic Where in the hell are you going to buy a brand new V6 Accord for 25k??? The Accord coupe looks much better than the sedan and starts at 29k. Plus, the Accord is not in the same class.
InsideLine can't drive to save their lives. Their acceleration times are CONSISTENTLY lower than any other magazine. The 8th Generation Si is the quickest Si produced to date, it is much faster than the 6th gen.
@sleeksilver There's not really a whole lot of room for error, especially on the 60 time with a rollout. Their watches can't be that wrong and the driver isn't performing any worse than any video of different car reviews I've ever seen. This car is a bit heavier as well, so I don't think I was "being a fool".
I'll repeat myself, InsideLine is ALWAYS slower than other magazine/publications. There is a TON of room for error when doing a 0-60 run or 1/4, botched launch, botched shift, etc.
Bottom line, I have never seen a FA5 Civic run this slow to 60 from any other respectable publication, this is the highest I've seen. Regardless, the 8th gen is STILL faster than the 6th generation.
@sleeksilver And I'll repeat myself, it's hard to misshift that badly with a rollout. At 7.1 seconds with a rollout, that's slow as balls, man. You can't delay a shift that much.
Everyone I have a 2000 Acura Integra GSR with 168,000 miles. Should I sell my car or trade in for a 2012 Honda civic Si coupe/Sedan ? I want more power I think I should move up to something more. I like Honda's so I'm thinking of getting a new civic. Please let me know what you think ? I'm not sure how long my Acura Integra will last even I take good care of its maintenance yearly. Thanks !
If you quit thinking about how fast a car can go in a straight line then you will see that the si is actually a pretty fast car. Yes cars can go straight well but they put steering in vehicles for a reason. The civic si does pretty good around a track! Not everyone just wants to beat other people in a drag race!
Hey GUYS a car is more than a spec sheet! To all of the guys bashing the Civic, it's still a CIVIC! It's got a firmer suspension and high revving engine to make it fun but this car's main purpose still is 30+ mpg and FWD safety in the rain/snow.
The GTI, mazda speed3, and WRX are all quicker but you sacrifice reliability (gti, and mazda) and gas mileage (subaru). If all you want is performance for 25k then get the WRX, if you want a fuel efficient but still fun car get the Si. Apples to oranges
Lol, what a colossal piece of shit.........every single spec this car fails................who cares, there is no way this car is faster than 6.5 secs 0-60.....that is slow as shit.....quit whining.....60-0 in 129 ft.....disgusting........
quick is sub 5 second 0-60
fast is low 4's
SLOW is 5.5 and up, unless you are used to comparing your car to cars only modded with fart pipe/body kits/spoiler.
So, just save your 20+k for your mom's sedan and rice it out.
Bull crap my 09 Si sedan ran in the track a 14.8 stock out of the box. You guys are making Honda look bad. Get better drivers don't be scared to launch that car hard.
@VTeckin11 Yeah, but these are supposed to be "professional drivers". And he shifts slow as fuck, so there is no excuse for grinding 2nd, just that he cant shift for shit, or even drive for that matter. Like i said b4, they need to get some better drivers...
@frank3c03 Basically letting the car roll for a certain amount of time before starting the timing. So it's not 0-60 from a dead stop it's 0-60 from a slow roll.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new Si's numbers. It's got a 2.4L rather than this ones 2.0L engine. Apparently it's a version of the K24 from the Acura TSX and the Honda Accord. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the new one keeps up with a GTI.
@AvengingDawn each car has it's purpose. a dodge ram would do horribly in this test and cost 40 thousand dollars, but does that make it a bad vehicle?
the Si, is (real world) more like 5 - 6 grand less (especially used), and is over 500 LBS! lighter, which makes it very fun to drive and about twice as good on gas if your driving hard. there both good cars, don't hate :)
@AvengingDawn You won't need a new head gasket at 60,000 miles with the Honda though. No one even comes close to Honda reliability. I have 163,000 trouble free miles on my 2002 RSX-S.The Subbies are awesome performers....but some of us would rather have a car that will outlast its payment :)
@TheCashistrash and then have the piston rings fail after 60k miles, i'd rather stay with my 22k car and put 3k in worth of a turbo kit. spoke sti's all day.
@FalloutProductions1 nah playa they don't suck.1) The driver of the other car probably could not drive. 2)You can get an xtra 50+ hp cheaply from a programmer and a boost controller. 3) The wrx is heavier by a good 400lbs.
@AvengingDawn lol i smoked an 05 wrx with sti exhaust and BOV from a 50 roll on my type-s we raced 5 times and everytime i pulled on him all he heard was my VTEC
@FalloutProductions1 and you couldn't answer the question. RSX-S low 15s/high 14s bone stock. Motor Trend tested the 09 WRX: 1/4 mile 13.5 @ 101 . Big difference in straight line performance
@AvengingDawn really? 25k? you think so huh, well go try to actually buy one and you'll see its going to cost you around 30k not 25.. and your insurance will be a lot higher, and all wheel drive isn't so reliable. So if you've got the money go ahead. but its not just an extra 3k..
What people don't understand about honda is that: aftermarket performance parts are ENDLESS. anyone with engine building know how & some money could make a 10-11sec car EASY.
Im building an engine (K27/k20 "stroker" turbo) & i can guarantee you i will have a 800+hp car without having spent more than 10k
@mellowdalyricist id rather spend 3k extra for a awd sub, than spend 10k in to make 800HP.. with throw 7k into the sub.. and it will likely still have more HP. with awd.. Im not knocking honda, i drive a civic myself, i just think, the vtec fwd is just not that fast.. not worth the 10k, unless your building a track car
@Asuram21 I'd say as far back as 2002 when the RSX type S came out, which was a great car. Civic Si is bascially a carry over from the RSX and still uses the same engine and transmission. Now with all the great cars that are out(Cobalt SS, Mazda speed, Genesis coupe) for similar prices, CIvic Si is far behind.
@e1853b Easy there...first of all, it's a neon. Second of all, a used one. Not the same thing as a new car. I don't even like civics, but dude...neons are worse.
Just save yourself the embarrassment of driving the same thing as every 16 year old with huge mufflers, stickers and cut up bumpers, and buy a 2.0 Genesis coupe or the Mazdaspeed 3 instead.
7.4 for $4000, this is slower than a heavy suv. Just save your money and buy the base model and use it as a subcompact commuter car like it was designed for.
check the mugen rr asian release, i bet youll love it :) i honestly believe the asian civics look better than their western counterparts (u.s., europe)
@ph11911191lly dont see whats to love about this car! is really slow, handling is not good, and it takes 3 runways and a half to come to a full stop from 60! :/
I hate this ugly space ship... the reason the 0-60 is 7.4 seconds is because of all that wheel spin... id rather get a GTI or Mazdaspeed3 ... then again i dont like econoboxes!
@dracolnyte Ummm... did you also not know that it gets just under 200 horsepower from a 4-cylinder? Sure, it's not exactly the fastest thing on the road, but I would say that's fairly impressive. Plus, it gives a fun driving experience for someone who still wants to be reasonably practical for a decent price.
@TheTongMan What cars?Mazda 3 and WRX are both faster, but they definitely do not get better mpg'.17/23 for the WRX and 18/25 for the 3 while the Civic is at 21/29.So it's really a compromise of which really fits you best as a driver?Civic Si Sedan is excelent for anyone who isn't necessarily boy racer but would like drive something lite and has 'some' punch.7.4 to 60,most real world situation would have most drivers get to 60 at around 12 seconds, 7.4 is plenty fast, that is if your not boyracer
@enemay Remember MSRP for the 2010 Si is 23-24k. Then you add 4k for this "upgrade" and you get to 28k. That is in the league of the WRX and Lancer Ralliart. What a waste Honda.
@TheTongMan Thats why no one should buy the 4k body kit upgrade,it is a waste,so its really just 24k.And anyone looking into buying a new civic si sedan can easily find one used,I believe you can get an '08 thats in excelent condition for like 17-18k.but yes like I said its a matter of compromise between those three cars.if the buyer is leaning more on reliability, resale, better fuel economy,I think the Si could just be the winner.
If you wanted a V6 in a Civic, that would be a custom job you would have to take upon yourself. A lot of guys out there have already. Don't rely on Honda, they will NEVER do that.
I was replying to a comment from another user. I personally wouldn't do it either, unless I had a much older model honda and just wanted to have unique project car.
Those that have an issue with conservative body styling from Honda, should checkout the 2012 Civic. More curves than Jay Lo and Kim Kardashian. The only thing that has more is Vida Guerra.
@frank55656 most automakers have variable valve and cam timing. most don't have variable lift though, im just waiting for ford to add variable lift to the new 5.0L and im buying it. id say close to 500hp when they do, definitely be a first for an affordable muscle car to make 100hp/liter and around 8k redline.
Honda needs to keep up with the rest of the world. There are great things coming from the automotive industry right now and NONE of those things are coming from Honda OR Toyota. They're coming from Europe, and Ford lol
0-60 in 7.4? what a piece of shit. IDC how awesome it sounds. A base si cost 22k. a mazdaspeed3 costs like 24k. 60 more horsepower and with boost, so with exhaust intake and tune you'll be fast as fuck. smh honda
They should put the s2000 F20c into the Si and the k20 into the ex civic. Yes i know the F20c is made for REAR wheel drive(longitudinal mounting) but im sure they could make it work or at least transfer some of the technology from it into a front drive mount.
@droboty00 that engine is about 10 years old now. they have to come up with a new more efficient engine. they should put a turbo like hyundai did with the new sonata. the hyundai 2.0 turbo makes 274hp and gets 34mpg. that's way more power and better mpg than this civic si.

Now with all the great cars that are out(Cobalt SS, Mazda speed, Genesis coupe) for similar prices, CIvic Si is far behind.
grant6730 1 year ago
damn thats slow! The cobalt SS is cheaper and gets to 60 in 5.7-5.8 second! Honda must be retardes to call this "performance"

@e1853b Easy there...first of all, it's a neon. Second of all, a used one. Not the same thing as a new car. I don't even like civics, but dude...neons are worse.
ambientflier 1 year ago
Just save yourself the embarrassment of driving the same thing as every 16 year old with huge mufflers, stickers and cut up bumpers, and buy a 2.0 Genesis coupe or the Mazdaspeed 3 instead.

Complete piece of shit!! Damn it's sloooow!

It's still the same torque less Si. Back in 2006, this car needed that K24 motor instead.

bickford93 1 year ago
7.4 for $4000, this is slower than a heavy suv. Just save your money and buy the base model and use it as a subcompact commuter car like it was designed for.

Did anybody watch TheSmokingTire's review atleast? This car isn't half as bad as you guys with insults make it.

@ph11911191lly dont see whats to love about this car! is really slow, handling is not good, and it takes 3 runways and a half to come to a full stop from 60! :/
ricky041878 1 year ago
I hate this ugly space ship... the reason the 0-60 is 7.4 seconds is because of all that wheel spin... id rather get a GTI or Mazdaspeed3 ... then again i dont like econoboxes!
JaguarRVP 1 year ago
evo is better then the civc. but the evo cost a bit more but its way faster
ICYASIAN95 1 year ago
I never understood the civic... I though and continue to think that its the ugliest car in its class.

never knew the Si was this slow... else i would have slapped some more ricers on the road
dracolnyte 1 year ago
@dracolnyte Ummm... did you also not know that it gets just under 200 horsepower from a 4-cylinder? Sure, it's not exactly the fastest thing on the road, but I would say that's fairly impressive. Plus, it gives a fun driving experience for someone who still wants to be reasonably practical for a decent price.

I hate to say it, but Honda is being left in the dust by other competitor brands in MPG, power, room, and price. I own a 2008 Si.
TheTongMan 1 year ago
@TheTongMan What cars?Mazda 3 and WRX are both faster, but they definitely do not get better mpg'.17/23 for the WRX and 18/25 for the 3 while the Civic is at 21/29.So it's really a compromise of which really fits you best as a driver?Civic Si Sedan is excelent for anyone who isn't necessarily boy racer but would like drive something lite and has 'some' punch.7.4 to 60,most real world situation would have most drivers get to 60 at around 12 seconds, 7.4 is plenty fast, that is if your not boyracer
enemay 1 year ago
@enemay Remember MSRP for the 2010 Si is 23-24k. Then you add 4k for this "upgrade" and you get to 28k. That is in the league of the WRX and Lancer Ralliart. What a waste Honda.
TheTongMan 1 year ago
@TheTongMan Thats why no one should buy the 4k body kit upgrade,it is a waste,so its really just 24k.And anyone looking into buying a new civic si sedan can easily find one used,I believe you can get an '08 thats in excelent condition for like 17-18k.but yes like I said its a matter of compromise between those three cars.if the buyer is leaning more on reliability, resale, better fuel economy,I think the Si could just be the winner.
enemay 1 year ago
@ratmtbola
So we can totally forget about the Sports sedan class.

DAMN...my 93' 3.5l concord is faster!!...i thought the SI was supposed to be decent?

now honda just needs to put the tsx's v6 in the new one, and itll be perfect
saboobuu 1 year ago
@saboobuu
If you wanted a V6 in a Civic, that would be a custom job you would have to take upon yourself. A lot of guys out there have already. Don't rely on Honda, they will NEVER do that.
adogg619 1 year ago
@adogg619 With the money you swap a V6 into a Civic, you could just buy an Accord V6. So what's the point?
grant6730 1 year ago
@grant6730

Seriously this is a cheep economy car that is fun. I think it is much more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow.

@frank55656 most automakers have variable valve and cam timing. most don't have variable lift though, im just waiting for ford to add variable lift to the new 5.0L and im buying it. id say close to 500hp when they do, definitely be a first for an affordable muscle car to make 100hp/liter and around 8k redline.
turbonegro1120 1 year ago
Honda needs to keep up with the rest of the world. There are great things coming from the automotive industry right now and NONE of those things are coming from Honda OR Toyota. They're coming from Europe, and Ford lol
bmancodgta4 1 year ago
0-60 in 7.4? what a piece of shit. IDC how awesome it sounds. A base si cost 22k. a mazdaspeed3 costs like 24k. 60 more horsepower and with boost, so with exhaust intake and tune you'll be fast as fuck. smh honda

I don't see anything sporty about this car except he transmission. You can pay $3k more and get a WRX that's one hell of a car over the SI

i used to like honda, but the civic is fat and expensive now. im not saying its not a good car, im saying its a horrible civic
Ji99i3 1 year ago
They should put the s2000 F20c into the Si and the k20 into the ex civic. Yes i know the F20c is made for REAR wheel drive(longitudinal mounting) but im sure they could make it work or at least transfer some of the technology from it into a front drive mount.
droboty00 1 year ago
@droboty00 that engine is about 10 years old now. they have to come up with a new more efficient engine. they should put a turbo like hyundai did with the new sonata. the hyundai 2.0 turbo makes 274hp and gets 34mpg. that's way more power and better mpg than this civic si.
