This is such a beautiful song, and Lyle sings it beautifully. Townes Van Zandt was one of the most amazing poets to ever draw a breath. I kind of think it's too bad he's most remembered for Ponco and Lefty. Cool song, but it doesn't quite showcase his amazing talent for speaking volumes with but one well worded line. I think he's one of the "few stars that held on to the sky."

I don't think Townes is on this track at all - Lyle recorded this for his 1998 album, Step Inside This House, and Townes died a year and a half before.

John Townes Van Zandt wrote this tune while he was dreaming, according to he himself, in interviews on TV. I think that that is amazing and special. He said he wrote lyrics and music both while dreaming, then woke, then wrote down the song on a paper bag.

Everything he wrote has a sweet, soft touch. From articles I have read about him, his manic side did surface in his behaviour sometimes. He was a great poet and a great spirit.
