So, if you're doing standing quarters the Hayabusa will be quickest, but if you are on the road and (in the UK) staying legal, the Triumph will be the quickest away from the lights and up to the limit.
So if you're doing standing quarters the Hayabusa will be quickest, but if you are on the road and (in the UK) staying legal, the Triumph will be the quickest to get to the limit.
In fairness to both riders, they are only accelerating for 100-150 metre or so and then both throttle off (the Triumph a little b4 the Suzi), obviously to stop before they hit that wall/container/ whatever in the background, so it is really not a true indication of the acceleration potential of either bike. In a 1/4 mile race they would both get to 5th gear i would think. The Hayabusa should win.
As a Rocket 3 owner/rider, I quite frequently beat sport bikes, including 'Busas, off the line and run them for about an 1/8th of a mile. After that they catch me up and leave me behind. We usually chat and laugh about it afterward, they admit to having to work it a little to catch me when they are use to easy wins. It's all fun and the 'Busa is definitely the faster bike in a 1/4 mile or longer.
I've ridden both, and worked for Triumph. A stock Rocket 3 will beat just about anything from a standing start, because of torque !, a Busa makes Power ! and that comes with revs ... revs build, torque is instant ....
busa is good for 10s with a little jockey straight out of the box. but i'd still have a rocket. i don't need to do 300k/hr and i don't like riding on my wrists. both bikes are cool, good to see the fun police haven't stopped everything
People need to see that the Rocket is much bigger, much much heavier and its not just a cruiser, its a god damn tourer, the busa is faster eventually yes, but it made out of plastic and weighs about the same as a paper weight, if you want to cruise and have fun, then the rocket wins all the time in my opinion
I agree with yehyehdan. It would beat the busa to 80. Probably win in the 1/8th mile. Rocket is a great bike. Faster then the busa in everyday riding(light to light).
i dont get the whole sports versus cruiser argument. when will cruiser guys face the fact that sports bikes are faster. yeah some cruisers are fast on a quarter mile but then so are some chavs cars. they are different bikes for different needs. if you want to sit on an armchair for 6 hours in a straight line then cruisers are great but for knee down sillyness and childish fun sports bikes win hands down.
Well your argument is equally retarded, since you are obviously taking sides on what is "fun" which in the end is up to a persons taste.
"If you want to have the biggest and baddest bike that won all the japanese bikes when it comes to power, torque, riding comfort and handling for six hours then the Rocket is for you, but for some face in asphalt going to jail 100km/h on a 40km/h limited road childish crap, choose a sports bike."
@malusman why would going to a track day end in going to jail? why have all the power and torque if your only gonna be going 40? buy a 125 or a scooter and quit bitching.
it's like the old story of big displacement versus high revs. the cam in the busa is dsigned to produce power in the high rev range and it wil continue to do so into massive rev ranges. the triumph has lots of torque right from low revs, but doesnt hold it into the high range. both bikes are fast, and on a dyno you would see a reflection of this. its not so much about aerodynamics as the time at which the cam/intake/exhaust begin to work together on these bikes. i would say its a pointless race
thats bad ass, but almost anyone can drive a sport bike fast ,but to drive a big heavy Rocket 3 it takes some cojones , thats a torque monster, and its heavy too . Im not dissing anyones opinion i just say sports bikes are cool and like the name says they are "sport bikes" but Triumph made a nice bike there whe they built the Rocket 3. Peace out.

@JackbeepsPrince yeh i do thanks mate, i work at a triumph dealership on a saturday have done for last 2 years btw only 16 thats y iam not full time yet lol , and iam not saying it wouldnt accel up to 140 but the busa would pulll past the rocket at about 80-90mph
I love my rocket, my only complaint is that too much little crap is always going out on it. The frame design and monster engine are super cool and reliable but the electronics could have been better designed.
ok, ive got a honda shadow 750, and itll do bout 95-100 in a quarter, its pretty quick, and ive race an 08 zx6r, didnt stay with it too long, of course, bc its a crotch rocket, but my moms boyfriend just bought an 09 triumph rocket 3, and it smoked me more than that little 600 did, it may be a huge ass bike, but 2300cc- 600cc? you really think the 600 would kill it, itll top at 140, and thats where the crotch rocket would have the advantage, but o-130, the triumph would eat it alive
The 600s are quicker 0-125mph. It's been tested by several magazines. Motorrad tested the Rocket III 0-125mph in 14.1 sec. The Yamaha R6 did it in 9.7 sec. So yes, a 600 kills it to 130mph.
Also, you can forget 95-100mph in the 1/4 on a Shadow 750. It's been tested to 86.7mph trap speed in Motorcyclistonline. My dad bought a Shadow 750 in 2001 and still has it. It's definately not a quick bike. Me and mum use to pick on him because it's so slow :-)
either guy on the sport bike is a newb or the rocket isnt stock. Yea, a rocket isnt that fast out of the box, but thats because it has low compression and low RPMs. The busa is race bred, every part is designed for all out all the time. Now, if you were to say, take advantage of that low compression and turbo that BAMF I3 itll give that busa the rectal prolapse it deserves every time.
It's due to the Rocket's much higher torque and traction. The Busa can't put all its power down instantly otherwise it'll spin the wheels or stall. Hense the Rocket will leave the line faster, but the Busa will overtake it pretty quickly afterwards.
But really...it doesn't matter. The Rocket just holds a special place in my heart just for being so awesome and brutal. And it's not like you'll be racing it all the time anyway.
@1981rocketman1981 I love triumph i drive a 1971 trident, (the original rocket 3) but you have to admit, its just too heavy to keep up with a sport bike. It wasnt designed for it. Its fast, but not sport bike fast. andro, more torque means more difficult to put to the ground, torque is what breaks traction and burnouts happen, gotta have a gentle wrist on a bad ass bike like the R3
@live4mc I never said it would keep up with a sports bike? Off the line for the first 4-5 seconds you will beet almost any bike (ALMOST!). Never ever had problem getting traction out that big back tire, plus the bike weight helps! If you ask me comparing sports to cruiser is just pointless we all know what is faster! But compare the R3 to any other bike in its class and its the king when it comes to performance!
The Rocket III is an awesome bike!! There is nothing like it - period!! People keep comparing it to street bikes, I can't understand why. Completely different family of bikes, displacement, size, weight.. It's like compare a grizzly bear with a dog.
Regardless of what anyone else says Id rather hop on a bike that goes faster than this anyday then to ride this, the pure exceleration of this bike just scares the hell out of me, im always afraid that if i get on what and punch it that im gonna be flying off the back of it. ITS A HELL OF A LOTA BIKE!!
Mine's not stock (140hp/147lb-ft just isn't enough... if you're a bit mental, like me) and it will pull the front off the ground in 1st and 2nd real damn quick, if you snap the throttle! No clutch-play needed! It's one of those bikes you really have to situate yourself and prepare for madness when you crack the throttle.
And I'm going to supercharge it, eventually. 290-ish to the back wheel should be... interesting!
you just cant compare both bikes like that. bec bikes do depend on wat they are designed for. the rocket is design for touring so thats y even though it has a bigger engine, it still cant beat any sportbike bec the sportbike is built and design to race.
I totally agree with the dude that works at the shop with Suzuki and Triumph ... I have a mildly modified '08 sport and OMG! it pulls like a jet powered tractor! There is not much out there that can hang with it in a short drag race, but it is only a 5speed so it can't hold off the 1300 forever. Buddy at work has a modified 1300 Busa and I can only hold him off for just short of 1/4 mile. The rocket trounces him in the 1/8, it just doesn't have the top end, you run out of gear.
If you can hold him off for almost a 1/4 mile he just can't ride. The Rocket III can't even hold off a properly ridden 600cc sportbike in the 1/4 mile. The only advantage the Rocket III has is the long wheelbase, so it gets out of the hole quick. But from a rolling start any of the current 600cc sportbikes would beat it.
Got alot of big bikes over there in Sweden do ya? Own some of your own too eh? "properly ridden" seems that getting off the line in one piece and then shifing near redline consistently while wide open without smoking the tire or falling off is all thats required. If you think theres more to it than that, then I guess I've been doing it wrong for 39years. Try speaking from experience rather than out your ass.
If you've got that much experience you'd know that it takes some serious skill to launch a sportbike hard. The short wheelbase is crap when trying to get out of the hole fast. That's where the Rocket III has the advantage.
You can say what you want. The Rocket III is still slower than a 600cc sportbike in the 1/4 mile. Motorcyclist Online has the Rocket III measured to 11.2 @ 120.5 mph, compared to a GSX-R 600 10.85 @ 129.5 mph.
You are 100% right about the rocket3! I know beacause I own one! My brothers 08 ZX6R will beat it in 1/4 mile but it aint by much let me tell ya! Off the line he has no chance! He has tride more than once! But its like I keep telling my bro two very diffrent bikes! but both immensely good fun!...
Do you see what I mean? The R6 is MUCH quicker between 60-125mph. 0-60mph the Rocket III was only 0.1s quicker.
Btw, the GSX-R 1000 is tested at 9.774 @ 149 mph. That bike is about equal with the Hayabusa. That's why I said your friend can't ride. If he could, it wouldn't be close.
Sorry to disapoint you, but I've ridden alot of bikes. My family currently owns a 2001 Shadow 750, a 2006 Honda 599 Hornet and a 2007 Yamaha R1. The R1 is mine. Previous bikes were two R6s.
What is it that you disagree with? The Rocket is pretty quick out of the hole, but from speed even a 600cc will dust its fat ass. Sorry to burst your bubble man.
Of couse it is! Y u think they use 1litre sportsbikes like the GSXR1000 and the honda CBR1000RR in moto GP as the top class? If Hayabusas and Blackbirds were better around a track then I'd bet money thats what would b used round a track! there designed purely 4 top speed.
MotoGP has a displacement limit of 800cc, so you won't find any GSXR1000's or CBR1000RR's in that series, let alone Hayabusas and Blackbirds. Superbike WC have a 1000cc limit (for 4 cylinder engines), so again they couldn't use the larger capacity bikes even if they wanted to.
arvidwillem -- want to race, get a sportbike; want to tour, get a touring/cruiser bike.
but if you set-up both bikes, like set up the rocket with some nice racing transmission case, lightened the body, botom line make it a race bike, then probably it would be one of the fastest bike.
so please dont compare... both bikes are great! to get better performance of each bikes, they nid to be put on the place wer they fit.
ummm the busa gearing is made for racing and the rocket is made fore cruising so well the busa can beat it and can not so well it would be a close race
Off the line the Rocket 3 beats the crap out of anything because of its monster low end torque but anything over 60 mph the Busa will annihilate the Rocket.
Who are they kidding here?..........I can beat them stock to stock on my Vmax. The V and the Rock both run mid to low 11's - a lot of sportsbikes can beat both of them......esp the busa or my ZX-14.
I am very lucky to work at a bike shop that retails both Suzuki and Triumph product. Weather Jixa thou or busa they cant touch the rocket to 100kph on a public road on street tyres "FULL STOP". Even my mates dynoed and tested, YOSI, PWR COMAND 200mph busa still struggles to pass it till over 100kph, He still shakes his head in amazment!
sure looks like a hayabusa but i'm no expert and not all that doubtful since a couple of magazines ran them side by side to prove the triumph rocket really was the worlds fastest accelerating production bike to 30mph as was the claim at the time
I agree that the rocket is faster to 60mph, I've seen it done. But, to 30mph a hayabusa would probably win if it had as much front end weight and could use it's power better without the front end lifting.
torque gets you off the line, which the rocket has plenty. but power gets you to top speed.
e.g:
kawasaki gpz 500 s (33bhp): more torque, long gears
kawasaki 250r (33bhp): less weight, shorter gears.
as result. i was off the line first and got ahead till 50mph when the ninja 250 overtook me

Okay, to all retards out there:
A Rocket 3 has a HUGE torque, whereas the 600's have a torque that looks like a garden gnome compared to the Rocket 3's.
The take-off: Rocket busts 600's like shit, busts 1000's when in a good mood.
600's and 1000's leave the Rocket 3 behind when going faster =)

The rocket has done what its capable of. so i would say it performed well. Sportbikes are almost certainly going to win after 2-300 yards. nuff sed :)

Got a good look at the Triumph at the :03 mark. Looks like a Rocket III to me... pretty sure. don't know about the other bike, though.

I love my rocket, my only complaint is that too much little crap is always going out on it. The frame design and monster engine are super cool and reliable but the electronics could have been better designed.

I rode a Rocket III this weekend - what jolly good fun!

I own a new busa and nothing passes it,the acceleration is mind blowing all the way to 200mph

ok, ive got a honda shadow 750, and itll do bout 95-100 in a quarter, its pretty quick, and ive race an 08 zx6r, didnt stay with it too long, of course, bc its a crotch rocket, but my moms boyfriend just bought an 09 triumph rocket 3, and it smoked me more than that little 600 did, it may be a huge ass bike, but 2300cc- 600cc? you really think the 600 would kill it, itll top at 140, and thats where the crotch rocket would have the advantage, but o-130, the triumph would eat it alive
v12superduty 2 years ago
The 600s are quicker 0-125mph. It's been tested by several magazines. Motorrad tested the Rocket III 0-125mph in 14.1 sec. The Yamaha R6 did it in 9.7 sec. So yes, a 600 kills it to 130mph.
Karat6 2 years ago
Also, you can forget 95-100mph in the 1/4 on a Shadow 750. It's been tested to 86.7mph trap speed in Motorcyclistonline. My dad bought a Shadow 750 in 2001 and still has it. It's definately not a quick bike. Me and mum use to pick on him because it's so slow :-)
Karat6 2 years ago
either guy on the sport bike is a newb or the rocket isnt stock. Yea, a rocket isnt that fast out of the box, but thats because it has low compression and low RPMs. The busa is race bred, every part is designed for all out all the time. Now, if you were to say, take advantage of that low compression and turbo that BAMF I3 itll give that busa the rectal prolapse it deserves every time.
live4mc 2 years ago
It's due to the Rocket's much higher torque and traction. The Busa can't put all its power down instantly otherwise it'll spin the wheels or stall. Hense the Rocket will leave the line faster, but the Busa will overtake it pretty quickly afterwards.
But really...it doesn't matter. The Rocket just holds a special place in my heart just for being so awesome and brutal. And it's not like you'll be racing it all the time anyway.

Rocket not fast out the box??? "OK" lol!...
1981rocketman1981 2 years ago
@1981rocketman1981 I love triumph i drive a 1971 trident, (the original rocket 3) but you have to admit, its just too heavy to keep up with a sport bike. It wasnt designed for it. Its fast, but not sport bike fast. andro, more torque means more difficult to put to the ground, torque is what breaks traction and burnouts happen, gotta have a gentle wrist on a bad ass bike like the R3
live4mc 1 year ago
@live4mc I never said it would keep up with a sports bike? Off the line for the first 4-5 seconds you will beet almost any bike (ALMOST!). Never ever had problem getting traction out that big back tire, plus the bike weight helps! If you ask me comparing sports to cruiser is just pointless we all know what is faster! But compare the R3 to any other bike in its class and its the king when it comes to performance!
1981rocketman1981 1 year ago
The Rocket III is an awesome bike!! There is nothing like it - period!! People keep comparing it to street bikes, I can't understand why. Completely different family of bikes, displacement, size, weight.. It's like compare a grizzly bear with a dog.
Oh, by the way, I go for the bear! :D

Regardless of what anyone else says Id rather hop on a bike that goes faster than this anyday then to ride this, the pure exceleration of this bike just scares the hell out of me, im always afraid that if i get on what and punch it that im gonna be flying off the back of it. ITS A HELL OF A LOTA BIKE!!
thisissofuctup 2 years ago
You really do have to hang on!
290-ish to the back wheel should be... interesting!

r3 RULES!
MESTREVIPER 3 years ago
you just cant compare both bikes like that. bec bikes do depend on wat they are designed for. the rocket is design for touring so thats y even though it has a bigger engine, it still cant beat any sportbike bec the sportbike is built and design to race.
akloy 3 years ago
I totally agree with the dude that works at the shop with Suzuki and Triumph ... I have a mildly modified '08 sport and OMG! it pulls like a jet powered tractor! There is not much out there that can hang with it in a short drag race, but it is only a 5speed so it can't hold off the 1300 forever. Buddy at work has a modified 1300 Busa and I can only hold him off for just short of 1/4 mile. The rocket trounces him in the 1/8, it just doesn't have the top end, you run out of gear.
dkjohannes 3 years ago
If you can hold him off for almost a 1/4 mile he just can't ride. The Rocket III can't even hold off a properly ridden 600cc sportbike in the 1/4 mile. The only advantage the Rocket III has is the long wheelbase, so it gets out of the hole quick. But from a rolling start any of the current 600cc sportbikes would beat it.
Karat6 3 years ago
Got alot of big bikes over there in Sweden do ya? Own some of your own too eh? "properly ridden" seems that getting off the line in one piece and then shifing near redline consistently while wide open without smoking the tire or falling off is all thats required. If you think theres more to it than that, then I guess I've been doing it wrong for 39years. Try speaking from experience rather than out your ass.
dkjohannes 3 years ago
If you've got that much experience you'd know that it takes some serious skill to launch a sportbike hard. The short wheelbase is crap when trying to get out of the hole fast. That's where the Rocket III has the advantage.
You can say what you want. The Rocket III is still slower than a 600cc sportbike in the 1/4 mile. Motorcyclist Online has the Rocket III measured to 11.2 @ 120.5 mph, compared to a GSX-R 600 10.85 @ 129.5 mph.
Karat6 3 years ago
You are 100% right about the rocket3! I know beacause I own one! My brothers 08 ZX6R will beat it in 1/4 mile but it aint by much let me tell ya! Off the line he has no chance! He has tride more than once! But its like I keep telling my bro two very diffrent bikes! but both immensely good fun!...
1981rocketman1981 2 years ago
Motorrad tested the Rocket III 10/2006:
60-125mph 10.7s
Compared to a 2008 Yamaha R6:
60-125mph 6.2s
Do you see what I mean? The R6 is MUCH quicker between 60-125mph. 0-60mph the Rocket III was only 0.1s quicker.
Btw, the GSX-R 1000 is tested at 9.774 @ 149 mph. That bike is about equal with the Hayabusa. That's why I said your friend can't ride. If he could, it wouldn't be close.
Karat6 3 years ago
karat u sound like u have never even riden a motorbike in your life. just go by wat u read on the internet ? am i correct ?
jerah123 2 years ago
Sorry to disapoint you, but I've ridden alot of bikes. My family currently owns a 2001 Shadow 750, a 2006 Honda 599 Hornet and a 2007 Yamaha R1. The R1 is mine. Previous bikes were two R6s.
What is it that you disagree with? The Rocket is pretty quick out of the hole, but from speed even a 600cc will dust its fat ass. Sorry to burst your bubble man.
Karat6 2 years ago
equal with a hayabusa???
top yes is slower in top speed, but in a race i beat the hayabusa in everything else. the gsx-r 1000 is above the hayabusa you mean
dustinkerikke 2 years ago
Of couse it is! Y u think they use 1litre sportsbikes like the GSXR1000 and the honda CBR1000RR in moto GP as the top class? If Hayabusas and Blackbirds were better around a track then I'd bet money thats what would b used round a track! there designed purely 4 top speed.
Mistabutts 2 years ago
MotoGP has a displacement limit of 800cc, so you won't find any GSXR1000's or CBR1000RR's in that series, let alone Hayabusas and Blackbirds. Superbike WC have a 1000cc limit (for 4 cylinder engines), so again they couldn't use the larger capacity bikes even if they wanted to.
mikerjuk 2 years ago
GP bikes are one of a kind. CBRs and GSXRs are a dime a dozen. They shouldn't even be used in the same sentence.
josef01900 2 years ago
yea but that sounds stock ive heard of rockets doin 0-100 in 2.5 thats pretty fast i aint it im not realy on the stats
fordrocZZzz 2 years ago
si id agree with
arvidwillem -- want to race, get a sportbike; want to tour, get a touring/cruiser bike.
but if you set-up both bikes, like set up the rocket with some nice racing transmission case, lightened the body, botom line make it a race bike, then probably it would be one of the fastest bike.
so please dont compare... both bikes are great! to get better performance of each bikes, they nid to be put on the place wer they fit.
akloy 3 years ago
the gixxer would win

who won??

whatever @ both bikes.
wanna tour? then tour.
wanna ride sporty? then ride something that can steer!
arvidwillem 3 years ago
ummm the busa gearing is made for racing and the rocket is made fore cruising so well the busa can beat it and can not so well it would be a close race
maddog2222 3 years ago

44564193 3 years ago
sure looks like a hayabusa but i'm no expert and not all that doubtful since a couple of magazines ran them side by side to prove the triumph rocket really was the worlds fastest accelerating production bike to 30mph as was the claim at the time
filbertau 3 years ago
30mph?
I agree that the rocket is faster to 60mph, I've seen it done. But, to 30mph a hayabusa would probably win if it had as much front end weight and could use it's power better without the front end lifting.
Blackdragon595 3 years ago
triumphs advertised claim was worlds fastest production bike 0-30mph
filbertau 3 years ago
thats like sayin. the rocket 3 would be even faster than the busa if u lightened it and changed the gearing. u cant use those as adding examples
poika 3 years ago
i got a vtx1800 and ill do that to 600's. that could very well be a busa, five seconds later on a drag and that crotch rocket has left it behind.
the rocket 3 is stupidly fast.

That is a GSXR 1000. It is filmed in Rotterdam.

The Suzuki is a GSX-R 600 or 750, no a Hayabusa.
