Roy Oswalt.... 2.90 ERA (lower than in 2005). Phillies in first place in NL East. Magic number to clinch is 10. And Roy Halladay (2.40 ERA) and Cole Hamels... 3.01 ERA (lower than in 2008). So I guess I just proved your analysis as false.
@WorldTradeCenter2011 i went when hamels pitched, our three headed monster was outstanding this series. the plan to fix the rotation to have these guys pitch this series really worked out well! and it will sure as hell help us win the world series :)
why the hell would us philly fans give two shits about what a fucking seven year old thinks, huh? like seriously man, hahaha, your a joke. oswalt has been OUTSTANDING and has exceeded a lot of our expectations. maybe youll get a good look at him when we are playing in the world series this year. oh, to bad the cards season is in the shits too, sowwwwy :)
@emilyydx I agree we now have the triangle baby!!! .. regardless how this year turns out finaly we have a strong pitching staff.. a weak pitching staff is the real reason we lost the World Series last year. Nothing against Hamels or Blanton.
@2112foru seriously, we just swept the braves, and now our last home series is against the mets, and im going the the game saturday and sunday. which i would think would be one of the games we clinch the division, so this kid feeels dumb. hahah! go philllies! high hopess <333333
Oswalt is 32 kid. He's the same age as Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay. He's not over his prime just yet. We lead the Wild Card and are 2.5 games back in the division. We got a great pitching staff too. Halladay, Oswalt, and the old Hamels.
They have one of the best offenses in the league. Where have you been the past three years? And no, he doesn't have a player option, he has a mutual option. oswalt wanted the Phils to pick up his 2012 option and they declined. The phils don't want to commit to a pitcher three years down the road. Cliff Lee has nothing to do with anything you or i mentioned. And if you want to go there, I'll put it this way: Id rather have Oswalt for 2-3 years than Lee for one.
@philliesphan93 Lee over Oswalt?? your on crack hahaha oswalt had gave up 5 runs to the nats? NATS? Oswalt is done being a ace realy what the phils bought was just a big name pitcher who is past his prime of his crear i admit the astros dont have good run support but when you give up 3 4 runs agame your asking alot from your offence. And they do need bats all they have is howard but chase utley is hurt rual ibanzes hasnt had a good season and there trying to get rid of jayson worth.
@Bearhug126 Did you not read my post?! I never said Oswalt was better than Lee. I said that I'd rather have 2-3 years of Oswalt than one year of Lee. And as for his start tonight, there were two Phils errors leading to some of those runs. And you're basing your opinion of Oswalt on one game! He's been in Philly for less than 24 hours and has never pitched with their catchers. Cliff Lee also gave up 4 ER runs his first start with Texas against the Orioles.
@philliesphan93 just because he never pitched with his catcher dosent mean anything 5 earned why are you defending him he hasnt proved anything this year. The NL is a tight league and the wild card is tight aswell i dont even think the phils will make it in the playoffs there a few games back behing the braves and there not slowing down i honstly think the philis are not playoff material. Roy Hollday has been okay this year but i thought he would be lights out i know he has lost at least 6 game
@Bearhug126 He has an ERA around 3.50 which is great for a SP. If he hasn't done anything this year, back it up with facts. And Roy Halladay, not Hollday, has been better than ok! He has the second best ERA in the league, first in the league in SO, and has the third best WHIP.Why don't you understand that the amount of wins/losses a pitcher has is probably the worst statistic to use to analyze a pitcher. I'm sorry, but I can't keep arguing with you when you don't have a clue about baseball.
@philliesphan93 he has 3 more strikeouts then tim linicum and actuly jeff weaver has more in the mlb. And yes wins have the most inportant role wins show if you get the job done josh johnson for the marlins have the best era. Let me just say this Pitching isnt the problem its just the last 2 or 3 years before the trade deadline the went after pitchers when they need hitters! they traded roy oswalt and holliday for there best prospects. I dont think jimmy rollins is as good as he was before inj
@Bearhug126 No, you're wrong. For example: Halladay pitched 9 innings without giving up a run vs the reds but the Phils won in extra innings so he didn't get a win. I never said he was ahead of Johnson, I said he was second. Also, you criticize them the past two years when they made deals for pitchers when they "needed hitters". They won two pennants, three division titles, and a World Series Championship by acquiring pitchers at the deadline, and you say they needed hitters?!
@philliesphan93 Well dosent matter they shouldnt be greedy and be fine of what they got phillies got wooped by the NATS 8 to 1 wow. Jp happ won his game at houston 5 to 0 against the brewers they shouldnt of got oswalt they gave away jp happ and there 2nd best prospect to guy who gives up 5 runs to the nats? yea i amn die hard card fan and i guarenteed you this year we will go past the phillies. made an excuse why there 3.5 games back and 2nd to last in the wild cards ha!
@Bearhug126 Are you aware that there are 162 games in a season. You think the Cards haven't lost any games to bad teams. The Phils just came off of an eight game winning streak and you're criticizing them for losing one game. You're analysis of a major trade is based off of one game?! Oh and what are you talking about that they are 2nd last in the wild card!! Are you too stupid to realize that every team not in first is in the running for the wild card?! They are 2.5 out of the WC you idiot
@philliesphan93 Whatever dude let me just finish by saying this the cards are better then the phillis and the oswalt trade was a bad idea. oh and phillis are not going to go any where past the wild card if they even get there
@Bearhug126 Also, you're wrong, they are keeping Werth. Ibanez has batted above .400 since the all star break, Polanco has kept an average above .300 almost all year. Chase will be back by September. Jimmy is now back. They have called up their best hitting prospect Dominic Brown who has performed well his first two starts.
His ERA is 3.42, 19th best out of 52 starting pitchers in the league. Haren's ERA is 4.57! Why does his record matter? He is 6-12 while playing for a team who is A) terrible and B) has given him the second worst run support in the league. If you had looked at the trade, the Astros are giving the Phils $11 million which is almost half of what he is owed. Not a lot of money. The option is not a player option, it is a mutual option. Also you're wrong about his age, he is 32 not 34.
@philliesphan93 Yo the money is one thing what the phillies needed was hitters they traded good prospects for a ace that has seen better years he has a player option where lets say if the yankess get intrested in oswalt he would go to them in a heartbeat. The phillies are a few games back from the braves and they need hitters not pitchers... i think they should of NEVER trades cliff lee
THATS FUCKING HILLARIOUS THE PHILLIES ARE THE SHIT... AND THE CARDINALS ARE JUST SHIT... YOUR SO HAPPY??? MY ASS!!!! bullshit...
