  • brillant, love your vocals and the song cheerscThe Makem Folk Singer

  • If I could make it to MO by tomorrow I'd be there with my lawn chair. I hope that others see this and are able to make it to his concert. He used to do free concerts at my undergraduate school. What a treat.

  • Bill Staines will be playing a free concert at BIg Spring park near Van Buren, Missouri on June 14, 2011 at 7:30. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for this free concert on the banks fo the Current River. See you there!

  • We absolutely love this song.

  • I've never heard of this guy! Not sure, as of yet, that I really have missed anything. I'll keep listening and maybe I'll change my mind...

  • This sounds almost just like the version still left in my head from when I first heard Bill at "Mother's" on the campus of RPI in 1980 or 81. Another tiny venue...

I don't get to places like that much any more, and I miss the east coast, so thanks so much for posting this.

  • I remember Bill at the Cherry Tree Club, University of Penn in 78' , only 50 chairs in the basement of old St. Mary's church, up close and personal music! RSP Utah Phillips

  • been listening to bill for years here in the UK

  • Bill Staines is amazing. It's funny, I''m probably the youngest Bill Staines fan ever at ripe old 22. Haha.

  • Beautiful delivery. It's amazing how many in the audience know the words and sing along full voice with him.

  • Bill has been my songwriting hero for a lot of years now. For 44, this is the real Bill Staines, left handed picker and all. Sir Robert, it is so great that his music lives on and I know (because he really is a hell of a nice guy) that he'd be tickled by your post.

  • I have literally have listining to Bill Stains as long as I have lived...

    brings me back...especially this song..

  • Very beautiful ♥ ***** ☺

  • wow,he sings nice :)

  • Great song from a great writer!

  • great tune and great tunester

  • Am I mistaken or is there more than one Bill Staines? On these YouTube sights, one is a right hander and the other plays left handed. One has a Brit accent and the other is purely upstate US. I can't seem to find an answer. Can ya help me out? I like the "River" song and I've just now become aware of this guy. Heard him on Pandora, great radio. Check it out if you like fairly consistent music with out any hype or bs

  • Their's only one Bill Staines. He plays a right handed guitar left handed. He's a lefty who taught himself how to play by just picking up a standard guitar and practiced without changing the string order. So, the treble strings are on top for him. He adapted all the chords and fingerpicking patterns. It's amazing he can play that way. He's American. I talked to him during the break of a concert many years ago.

  • You were watching somebody else on YT who was singing a Bill Staines song.

  • I just checked out the same thing and I think it was the same man... the glasses are the same and the hat with the sweat ring and band. Anyway, a great song indeed.

  • Remembering Bill from Boston, Sword in the Stone, circa 1967 and "The Mouthpiece" in Rhode Island...

  • I love the song! Thanks for posting it.

  • Man, i haven't heard this guy in a LONG time. I grew up listening to my dads vinyls of this guy. Saw him in concert a buncha times too "back in the day." Glad to see he's still going with it. :)

  • It gives me goosebumps. Beautiful.

  • Great song from a great writer!

  • Grew up listening to my dad's cassettes of Bill on A Prairie Home Companion. Hearing these brings back a lot of memories and reminds me of how good/real music sounds.

  • What fun to see him again and hear the good tunes.
