Being obsessed with Doom & Doom 2 in combinatiom with D&D, this was always, in theory, the best game ever. Sadly, it never quite made it. Quadruple the amount of monsters and get Sandy Petersen on level design and it would have been gold.

I do think it would be cool to see XBOX and PlayStation recreations of the original Heretic, for a new generation to discover the awesomeness of the game. Especially in multiplayer! Just as long as they don't mess it up. I stick to PC games because they're what I'm used to, and I don't own any consoles.

I still love this game to this day! I still play and mod games like Heretic, Doom, Doom II, Final Doom and Hexen. Descent was great, too. Great music! I loved Heretic cause it had so many crazy artifacts like the Tome of Power, Wings of Wrath and Morph Ovum. The weapons were great, especially the Ethereal Crossbow, Hell Staff, Pheonix Rod and Mace. Been playing these since about 1996 and I won't stop!

@Chubzdoomer I like the "enhanced" version..except that the "lead" melody is a bit grainy, and the "rythm section" melody is a bit distorted as well. The rythm percussion is mostly clear, the cymbal fills especially so, more than the snare/tom fills. All for lack of better terminologies, as this was probably MIDI to MP3. It has its up's and downs like everything else. This version of the music is a bit more modern...sort of like Doom music compared to Quake II music.

I remember playin' this game back in '94 when it first came out. I had it before the expansion, Shadow of the Serpent Riders came out. What an amazing game and I still play it on Skulltag almost every single night.

What a fucking game, epic beyond words, all the greatness of Doom in a medieval tone, also the first to have a selectable inventory if I recall, even today I play Heretic on the Doomsday engine, what a rush it still is, get Doomsday and run it with DirectX, you'll be in for a treat.

Also for those who are interested, look for dosbox and/or vdmsound to help get DOS games running on newer gen operating systems. I'm rather sure both those are Windows only.

You can, just use the Heretic.wad and download either ZDoom, Doomsday, they are uprated engines with better effects and higher resolutions, you can even play it online with Skulltag and ZDaemon (although not many play it, but the servers are there, they are mostly Doom players)

But Vista is fine with ZDoom and Doomsday.

They kind of did. It's called a source port. Look up jHeretic and the Doomsday Engine for instance.

Hey dude, in what age you use to play in Heretic at school? I was think that's PC was allow in 1995 that's you can download games on their. Now people play in school in ugly CSS :P But I still can download Skulltag and play old fun games :D

I was 5, and that was in 1999. On my Windows 3.1, which had the full version of Doom II and shareware versions of Heretic, Descent, and a pinball game by Epic Games.
