It is unusual for a building to have alarms that are not the same. I'm guessing two fire alarm control panels tied together, judging by the two annunciators.
@TssCman123 It's one annunciator; one board is the control board (key switch, control functions like silince & reset) and the other is the zone indicator.
In the first part I thought the horns were Simplex 2903-8198 vibrating horns. If I have the model # wrong please tell me. I'm still learning my fire alarms.
It seems the only times Simplex uses the 4005 fire alarm panel in new installations is to replace an older conventional fire alarm panel like the Simplex 2001 or 4002 (i.e. upgrades that usually use the existing wiring or leave all the other devices intact). Most of the time when I see a new Simplex system installed, it's addressable.
@wileyk209zback That's odd for you too say, as my school's system consisted of old vibratory horns, yet the new panel is a 4010. From what I know, 4040's aren't addresable.
@Tabby266 The 4040 horn is an AC series horn; the 4010 panel is a DC system. The only way that is possible is if the old fire panel is still there and is tripped by the 4010 to sound the 4040 horns.
@SimplexTech The old panel was disabled along with all the alarms, the old alarms are just rotting on the walls. They have trualerts now. which I am pretty sure were installed at the same time as the 4010.
@SimplexTech The old panel is gone, but the old alarms haven't been moved an inch. They removed the alarms in the classrooms (if there were any) and put the truealerts in the same place. Besides that, no alarms were removed. Also the system replacement (most likely) took place in the 1990's.
@SimplexTech Actually, i had the same occurrence in my old school...we had a system with 4030-2 horns in the old section and 4037 flush mount horns in the new section. They replaced the entire system with a new panel (it was in the janitor's room so i never saw the model number) and true alert horns. They removed the 4030-2s but kept the 4037 flush mount horns in the walls in the new section. They never did work again, and i presume to this day they are still there. i wish i could steal one...
@Tabby266 It could be likely that they wired the new panel into the old one in some way. They did that at one of my friend's old elementary schools (now a K-8 school); the panels are a Simplex 4010 and a 4208, but the signals are the old 4051 horns on 4050-80 light plates. The 4010 is mostly just for the duct detectors, and the 4208 is for the pull stations and heat sensors.
march time sounds good on these

I wish those older horns would be replaced with TrueAlerts. Because they are old.

Were vibratone horns used in that system?

@SimplexTech Correction - after looking they are both zone indicator panels.

@Tabby266 The old devices should have been removed when the old system was removed. That is a code requirement.

@SimplexTech Also I made a mistake. The old system consists of different horns, 2 on light plates, and the 4040 is actually a 4050/4051.

Nice. The horn/strobe at the end looks like my 4903-9217 (probably is a 9217).
thesoulsekr 1 year ago
@thesoulsekr It's probably a 4903-9219 (the -9217 has a 110-candela strobe and the -9219 has a 15-candela strobe).
