Mancini's composition for this very stylish movie is surprisingly underated. This work easily stands up to his earlier and more famous pieces: The Days of Wine and Roses; Breakfast at Tiffanys; Charade; the Great Race and The Pink Panther.

why do you think it's underrated ? in fact henry mancini did get an oscar for this in 1983...

Underated in the sense of the public's overall lack of awareness of the movie, let alone this excellent piece of music. Mention Mancini's name, and most will quickly associate: Moon River or one of his other more noted movie soundtracks. There is nothing negative in my comments only an observation (which I believe is correct) that Victor/Victoria is not on the same level (fame-wise) as other Mancini classics. Which, at least to this writer, renders this music underrated.
