well, guys don't get me wrong =) ska is a gr8 positive music and I was a ska-boy meanwhile and I was fully into that skanking and chigidap theme too ) but it is a fact that there are no more innovative bands that could lead the genre into smth new. Like rancid in 80s or even streetlights in the early 00s. the genre have stucked on the top of its commercial success - american 90s. it's not bad, maybe in a decade there will be a revival again and the 4th-5th wave of wonky-ska will be born ))

Anyway, they kicked off pop culture in Japan, which led to the conception of J-Rock, J-Ska, and J-Pop.

Like all of their songs about how racists are ruining society (Do The Dog), rioting (Inner London Violence and Ghost Town) and getting really fucking high to forget about it all (My Collie (Not a Dog)). Ska is upbeat by nature and makes from great dance music -- but the lyrical content varies greatly. No need to pigeonhole the genre because of a few songs from the 90s.

@jacksonwescott I recommend giving Ska-P a listen if you want deep dark lyrics. It's all in spanish but from the videos you can get a pretty clear idea of what they are singing about. Happiest music i've ever heard though. It's what makes Ska what it is.
