She went to Rice University in Houston. A friend of mine and I sang for Rice's production of Spoon River Anthology. On the nights that I didn't sing, Candace sang with my friend. I really didn't know her, but it seemed like everyone called her "Candy" back then. I had no inkling that she'd be famous someday.
