  • Very cool! ასწორებს!

  • who plays bass in this video?

  • @careyc12 Christian Mcbride

  • I'm really glad Patrick Stump brought me to this video

  • patrick stump sent me here:)

  • @CourtneyR11 he always got the good taste in music.

  • 12~3年前、五反田で観た!!ジョシュア・レッドマンのあたり楽曲、親父完全越えてた! HEADIN'HOME #jazzm

  • Can someone tell me who that bass player is?

  • @bassnoob1000 i think it's Christian Mcbride

  • @Wardellmobley I think you're right, I forgot he didn't used to rock the bald look, ha. :)

  • @bassnoob1000 Christian McBride

  • This is a real primer on how to play funk!

  • McBride!!!!

  • one of the only sax players i have seen that always keeps his eyes open while playing... haha

  • @jamiev4 3:12 ;)

  • damn the bass sounds exactly like jaco, great playing!

  • powerhouse

  • who's the bassist ???

  • @soulflatfoundation Christian McBride man!

  • Great tune, great players - but they're just motor-heading here. The groove is weak. There's no push-pull, just everyone playing as fast as they can. A disappointment, I'd hoped to hear some things in the live version that might have escaped the studio cut, but maybe the live acoustics sucked. The version at v=H5K7TfFftwE is a bit better, less frenetic, more interactive, although at the end they're kind of in the same motor-head no-pocket.

  • @blueyedboymrdeath Wow, disagreed.

  • @blueyedboymrdeath you must not have been listening to McBride, especially when he starts prestia'ing it up at about 4:20, not to mention his solo (6:04). And I've seen (in person) both McBride and Redman play with ease at much faster tempos. Maybe these guys aren't grooving quite as hard as the Headhunters have done live (see album, "Flood"), but beyond that I don't see how anyone could complain.

  • @blueyedboymrdeath hahaha get a clue!!

  • @blueyedboymrdeath LOL!!!! That's funny.

  • @blueyedboymrdeath LOL.........

  • I should clarify, I'm referring to parts of the solo section. Like I said, no push pull, no call-response. What's a good pocket? Check out Wekl's "Rhythm of the Soul" album, or some Eddie Harris. Makes you want to dance. THAT's a groove. Everybody playing as many notes as fast as they can, and no air in between, I don't care who they are, that's not a pocket.

  • @blueyedboymrdeath You call them motor heading then you mention Dave Wekl?? Dave is clean and technical as they come, but to use him as a reference of groove for Brian Blade is pre.pos.ter.ous...Dave Wekl...wow...

  • Brian Blade on drums?

  • @mesoprano Yeah sure :)

  • 00:08 Young Mel Gibson on piano? lol

  • @Jazzsaxman1 lol I thought the same thing

  • putz...muito groove prum baixista so...

  • Maravilhoso ver e ser influenciado diariamente por esses mestres e por essa musicalidade maravilhosa...

  • Who Is Playin the Bass Again????....He;s Tight!!.

  • that's the great christian mcbride..

  • Christian McBride

  • man that bassplayer killed it!! 07:29 that's me infront of my computer right now! :)

  • Me too! Someone should make an animated gif out of that short clip!

  • Christian at 4:21... wooo!!!

  • whos on keys here?

  • Jonny King - piano

  • Comment removed

  • Nah, not Mehldau. King.

  • buenisimo esto ¡¡¡ gracias por subirlo

  • wow ive never heard christian slap! pretty tight. his fingerstyle grooves here sound like paul jackson on steroids...

  • why is it that everybody bring the Sweet Georgia Brown to their solos????:)

  • this whole thing is so killin'

i absolutely love brain blade's groove in the bridge

  • Man, JOshua Redman can jump pretty high

  • @JacobShulman well he is black lol

  • @JacobShulman Dude, he's black!

  • which album is this song on?

  • moodswings the best albun for me

  • anyone here could send me the notes of this masterpiece? I'd like to play it with my band and it'd be big help. appreciate.

  • Brian Blade is like a modern day Clyde Stubblefield.

  • he's definitely got some Zigaboo in him too!

  • Yes, and more. A true great.

  • @inharmonicity The man can do everything, reminds me of tony wiliams in some situations, elvin in others. It's like he's a mix of all the greats. Next you'll see him killin' it with some metal band :P

  • @inharmonicity brian blade is like a modern day jesus christ

  • @Psitopa8hs Black Jesus!

  • 4:20 sounds like a Tower of Power bassline

  • yeah kind of like "what is hip"

  • hm... is this vid old? i prefer his later stuff then

  • Lovely tune apart from all the nice playing, love it

  • Joshua redman has tiger eyes. There so cool lookin. Hes bad.

  • this is my third favorite tune off of obsession

  • oops, meant moodswing. obsession is my favorite tune. haha

  • shades of Cantaloupe Island in it but much better

  • Hello! Can anybody tell me who are the musicians? thanks

  • Joshua redman, brian blade, christian mcbride and someone called johnny king i think

  • yeah...I hear yuh too..Ethan...I guess I am so "old school." I don't like funk too much, but I have to admit, Joshua is a master of his horn, I just don't like what he is saying right here...I do like his playing with James Carter at Carnegie a lot. Check out the vid.

Sorry to everybody else here...but y'all sure did hop on my earlier comment pretty hard. lol!......peace.......Bobo.

  • Love it!!!!!!!!

  • super! joshua is a legand!

  • That was fuckin' COOL , sorry 'bout the profanity but holy shit , make me fart and call me stinky but I'm gonna play that again.

  • i dont think its fair to classify his playing angry. He may have had some particular emotion running that day. check out some of his other stuff like the tune wish of his self tittled, some of the most soulful (not angry) stuff ive ever heard. even if he does have some pent up anger in his horn on this recording, its just another dynamic to his style that his father never had.

  • I seriously think you like that smooth Kenny G pop jazz to be saying something like that about Joshua Redman.

  • Dewey Redman used to play much freer than Joshua. You're just talking about Dewey in old age.

  • Like Brecker, just because he's a firebreather most of the time doesn't mean hes angry.

  • Yeah, alright manicban, I hear yuh...alright..

  • bobo, although i disagree with you, i think your opinion is just as valid as anyone else, and that it's a bunch of crap how people have voted your comment down. i guess it shows that comments aren't really about a person sharing his or her honest opinion; it's about worshipping the content of the video lest you get your comment hidden.

  • This is a great rythym section, Christian McBride and Brian Blade kill.

  • Bring back Mehldau!

  • piano player sucks.

  • serious during the bass solo i dont even know what hes thinking

  • I guess he was....uhhh comping? In a weird sorta way. I kinda like Mehldau more than that guy. But he does have chops though. so how was the BBA?

  • Whats BBA?

  • The Big Band Of America

  • oh you mean JBOA. it was awesome. alot cool great players i got friends for life from that trip

  • Jonny King is actually really killin. I've heard him a bunch of times playing trio in these nonchalant venues. He really has his own sound, but his approach is so entirely contrastive to Mehldau. I don't know, he's a weird choice for Redman. But fun fact, he is a Princeton and Harvard Law graduate, Summa Cum Laude from both, and he's currently a practicing copyright lawyer. He and Mehldau are two of the most erudite people I know. It's a weird trend in Redman's choice of pianists.

  • Is that christian mcbride on bass?

  • Yes. Wow, he he ever funky. Reminds me of Paul Jackson on Herbie Hancock's "Thrust" some of the time.

  • yea totally that cd is amazing

  • oh my god,fuuunky!!!

  • yes indeed i lik it :D !!!!!!!!!!

  • great bass player!!!

  • It was a big mistake to get Brad Mehldau out of the Band.

  • AGREED

  • I SECOND THAT ALSO

  • THIRD...

  • I just chopped up my bass guitars after watchin McBride here. What a groove, and the stamina he has. A fuckin powerhouse.

  • Joshua Redman is dancing in the back at 6:20

  • i dont know about u guys, but joshua has this sexy look about him when he plays. look at his eyes, hes so chill. what a cool cat.

  • At 1:00 the lady in the audience...now that is sweet! hahaha

  • at 5:32 as well haha

  • CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE IS A MONSTER!!!!!!

  • I was in this concert. Really great!

  • really awesome

  • Mcbride is so much more killin on upright

  • I completly agree with you.....but you must admit that Mcbride's lines on electric are slightly more complex than on upright.

  • This is from 1994. His electric chops have literally exploded since 1994.

  • Redman lokks pretty funky on this video. He is the greatest. I like this album with Brad Mehldau and Brian Blade a lot. My favourite album however is "wish".

  • Love the line 5:00 => 5:07, sounds so good with the chords

  • For sure! This video is funky as all hell.

  • Wow. Seriously one of the sickest solos I've seen... Joshua at age 27. Damn.

  • Man Its insane how sicknasty Joshua is with that weapon O_O

  • Man! Gross is the word! Damn, this is good stuff. Joshua's got soul!

  • Joshua is incredible! He can handle all styles!

  • Who's the bass player? McBride?

  • Yip

  • yeah, that's mcbride

  • who's the piano player?

  • Mister Jonny King

  • thank you. where's brad?

  • gross

  • old school redman!
