  • my Panasonic Cassette player, plays most tapes fine, but there is one tape that it plays all muffled and the square in the center of the tape where the head presses down is broken off some how, dont know how that happened it was awhile ago, anyways I dont know why the panasonic plays it like that because if I put the same tape in the car itplays just fine. and the panasonic player plays the other ones just fine too.

  • The Panasonic probably doesn't push the head as far on the tape. A new pad should fix that.

  • very interesting your g.e radio cassette looks like a grundig is it a clone ?

  • I doubt it, I'd be expecting a Grundig to be built with much higher quality standards than this.

  • It's very cool that you have the skills to resurrect this type of equipment. I'm helpless when it comes to cassette mechanisms. This GE actually appears to have decent sound. By the way, I still buy cassette tapes on eBay...

  • Very neat unit.

  • uggghhh a lot of flutter when that lovely Yes song was playing! I love that band!

If ya wanna know, ricky, the song's called Roundabout

wait a sec.... I used to have a Panasonic Omnimovie... but it's dead.... ahhh I'd love to get myself a VHS or Beta or even a UMatic camera and a capture card!

  • I'm thinking the GE may need a new motor altogether. Sometimes the speed has occasional wows.

  • What's the deal with the record lock button on the front? Where was this set made? I like the design of the machine, intresting design for the late 70's.

  • It's made in Korea I believe.

  • I knew at 2:50 you were using a MiniDV camcorder. They can be quite sensitive to noise and stuff - I know from mine.

Very nice machine! And nice VHS camcorder, too!

  • Very neat machine and recording quality sound great too!

Also Brooklynmouse is in love with GE stuff too! He always send me a vid of a GE Wildcat or any other GE record player or a look alike that he finds and say it looks like his '75 Wildcat or any of mines.

  • I wouldn't worry about the camera going funky, my computer went ballistic whilst watching this and your Sony video. Very interesting machine, I've never seen one quite like that!

  • Many cheapie GE's have motor noise and AC adaptor hum noise in the speaker, especially in record with the built in mic. I also noticed that some are prone to wow and flutter. I will probabvly get rid of the 3-5016.

  • GE's pro stuff was actually very nice. i di dnot care much for their cheapie shoebox recorders. But their high end stuff was actually built well.

I just got a GE 3-5016 slim showbox for 2$ at GW. It looks like new, but its flywheel seems like it is binding or dragging on something and does not spin freely with the belt off of it. It won't play a tape, but does FF and rew slowly. How does the flywheel come off? Very simple recorder inside.

    D-junkman

  • Is the flywheel rubbing on some spring thing? Cause my Califone 1300AV's flywheel was rubbing on a spring thing when I first got it, and I pushed it down and it set back in place.

  • Lolwat? What was Stephen Colbert doing on the radio? XD

  • You know it ricky !!

    I love this G. E !!

  • At least WMG can't mute your songs if they're all messed up./

  • You actually screwed a screw? LOL... I like it, I love the perculiar transport!

  • Really cool .. cool .. GE was the masters at making good style at low cost and then doing the impossible yes you could really buy parts and fix them ..... yes great presentation you should produce all your videos on a vhs camera hooked to the u - matic the audio was so good .. !! on u - matic ...
