seriously guys, first of all trout are not indigenous to norway and threaten the arctic charr population many places. secondly, how many places on earth are so well maintained that you can catch 9 kg trout in the first place. norwegians dont catch and release we harvest responcibly, thats why wild trout are everywhere. third, the trout population is in no way threatened in norway like it is in other countries where people practice fish for fun tourism.
I enjoy fishing yet I would not keep that fish to eat, such a great fish and apparently smaller trout 2-3lbs taste best anyway, I wouldn't know though havn't caught 20lb trout!

In middle europe (switzerland in my case) early spring brings lots of fishes but the trouts are still skinny from spawning and don't give a good fight.
summer brings less but stronger fishes (early morning and evening/night) or deep / shady spots and smaller baits/lures.
fall and early winter - strong well-fed fishes. morning til evening...use bigger lures/baits especially in fall when they build up fat reserves for spawning and the bait fish and insects are bigger too....good luck!
this on place in the mountains its called blue rock and we went there to camp and then we went fishing and we caught some trout i think it was golden trout we cooked it it was awsome

In Norway we generally eat the fish we catch, there are no C&R traditions, overfishing is not a problem. The way people react it seems as if some of you think it is noble to hook and "torture" a fish just for fun and then release it, but cruel to kill and eat. That's nonsense. I can understand that vegetarians who think all consumption of animals are wrong can get angry when they see this, the rest of you have obviously misunderstood how the meat or fish in the supermarkets are produced.
I am also puzzled by the complaints on how happy the guys are - that's a good thing people - it shows that doing what they do means something to them, it makes them happy...and that's great. In hindsight its easy to say that it is unnecessary to kill such a large trout, it probably does not taste that good and leaving may contribute to more fun fishing in the future(ironically because that fish kills a lot of fish;-))...but when you get such a catch its never easy to stay calm and rational.

Yes, it's uncommon, but still quite possible here in the States, more so in Canada, especially for lake Rainbows; Also possible with browns in the Eastern US.

One reason is that I understand the language.... For example on one point, The fisherman break out: This one has to be two kilos.... hehe.. A experienced fisher, would not have missed with 7 kilos! The rest of information I have about the clip, is from what I read, where I downloaded it.
I see, thanks for clarifying. I have caught many trout, and my first fish I caught with a 9wt fly rod was a 38lb Salmon. But 'till now, I still get all excited with a 16" small trout even though I have many over 20". I also don't estimate the size of fish well. But I don't think I'm an amateur, I see myself as experienced angler.

I wish I could say that I enjoyed this clip more than I do. Two things prevent this:
1) They kill that beautiful trophy. I have no problem with keeping & eating nice pan-sized fish (a responsible number). I think it's regrettable to end the life of such a rare specimen as this (& end the possibility for another sporstman of such a fish-of-a-lifetime).
2) The camera 'work' is HORRIBLE! We never do really get a good shot of that spectacular trout, and we should've had a long gander.

No it`s not. I`m Norwegian fisherman myself and know how a Norwegian mountain trout looks like. And besides lake trout only exist in a few lakes in eastern Norway, and they have been put there by humans. Lake trout does not exist naturally in Norway.

Try a marlin spike through the base of the head for a fast clean kill. And practice catch and release every once in a while.

Yes, it's uncommon, but still quite possible here in the States, more so in Canada, especially for lake Rainbows; Also possible with browns in the Eastern US.
The thing is that, how did you know they were beginners, and called that luck? They fought the fish really well.

I see, thanks for clarifying. I have caught many trout, and my first fish I caught with a 9wt fly rod was a 38lb Salmon. But 'till now, I still get all excited with a 16" small trout even though I have many over 20". I also don't estimate the size of fish well. But I don't think I'm an amateur, I see myself as experienced angler.

I wish I could say that I enjoyed this clip more than I do. Two things prevent this:
1) They kill that beautiful trophy. I have no problem with keeping & eating nice pan-sized fish (a responsible number). I think it's regrettable to end the life of such a rare specimen as this (& end the possibility for another sporstman of such a fish-of-a-lifetime).
2) The camera 'work' is HORRIBLE! We never do really get a good shot of that spectacular trout, and we should've had a long gander.

No it`s not. I`m Norwegian fisherman myself and know how a Norwegian mountain trout looks like. And besides lake trout only exist in a few lakes in eastern Norway, and they have been put there by humans. Lake trout does not exist naturally in Norway.

Icetrout, are you talking to me? i have been a Bass fisherman for 30 years. Local lakes that were suffering in population numbers, regained their populations and ten years after the catch-&-release practice started being employed at these lakes, we were catching bigger Bass, more frequenty and the lakes got healthier. I WAS there in the 70's and I was and still am a part of the conservation movement that saved fishing in America.

Actually I don't release every fish. Trout, Pickerel, Sunfish, Carp, Catfish, those I keep. Bass, Pike and Musky I don't keep. Saltwater fish I keep. Bass and Musky, especially in the N.E. have come back in huge numbers ever since CaR started being practiced. Seriosu Q for you: Why do you care about fish so much and not corrupt politics more? Dude I can totally tell your amatuer fishermen. You guys have no respect for the fish whatsoever! My advice: learn how to handle fish.Hitting the fish with the pliers was totally unnecessary. Try a marlin spike through the base of the head for a fast clean kill. And practice catch and release every once in a while.
