This speaks to the song, the video, and many of the comments made here. Usual ill defined deliberately wobbly existential messages of situational versus absolute morality. Having faith is a good thing, and so is the strength religion can give people. Mark isn't arguing that in any case. This song, or any song Mark has written, isn't anti-islam.

The way people misinterpret the words in the holy books (mainly to their own advantage) is the bad thing: religion has been misused as a very powerful and dangerous weapon to justify crimes they commit: enslavement, murder, imperialism and such.

Yes, it's written specifically for 9/11, but it could also be interpreted as a warning. The way Our Solemn Hour by Within Temptation draws parallels between WWII and the war in Iraq. I also recommend Sensorium and Cry for the Moon. Mark Jansen is a very talented lyricist.

I think Mark is against the Extremist, I'm sure he would never say something bad against a religion in general. He's trying to say that all the religions that tell us to kill the "infedels" are wrong. He wrote some lyrics about Islam because at the moment there's a big problem with terrorism.
