Though I love Tebaldi, her high C always sounded like "the end of the line" to me. When Leontyne Price sings this aria, her high C is beautifully sustained, accurate and thrilling. .. Just saying.
@Josquinquin She has a very dark and garbled voice and her words are very difficult to distinguish. Tabaldi has a very lovely , clear and naturally feminine voice.
Splendido.
Tebaldi's diction is perfect, as well as her voice...i'm not an expert of tecnique, so i'm not judgiong on this can't, but i do prefer Leontyne Price in this role, is just a feeling...but that's great anyway....
There have not existed another soprano who could match with Renata Tebaldi perfection of Cs in '53 Naples O patria mia and on this Loren's film version
@eugenelohks Yes! Monsterrat has tremendous dynamics! She is one of my favorites, along with Gina Colao Decer who is virtually unknown, but has the quality to make arias come alive.
The sheer size of Tebaldi's sound can't be captured well, she'll always blast your speakers but Tebaldi wasn't built for a studio but for a theatre where the grand operas like Aida are presented.
I find the top wonderfully dolce and since there is no clear indication if it should be sung pp or ff in the score, this sounds to me like the perfect O patria mia. The clarity of phrasing is just unbelievable. I'm guessing some viewers expect to hear a coloratura's high C which is sweet tiny but perfectly captured by a recording.
I believe YouTube has drove Potrobsas to the state of Delusion and Dimentia. If you look they have watched 11,674 videos within the six months of their being on you tube.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Tebaldi had a limited top wich just got worst as the years went on and lacked florid technique. She flopped in 1959 and i hear no acclaim to her Aida after 59. And did you say spectacular Gioconda in 66/68 till 76 i never heard that acclaim by god who would want to know that but you and a few other old maids.
Tebaldi got sensational success on her vibrant series of Giocondas at the Met on '66/'67 and '67/'68 season, on tour and her come back to Naples on dec '67.She sang in total 40 Gioconda performances in spectacular vocal form.
Callas only sang 8 Gioconda performances.Tebaldi top is huge, ravishingly beautiful fortissimo, firm. Her limit is she did not sing above C, like the other great dramatic voices: Ponselle, Flagstad.Tebaldi notes on A, Bflat, B and C are among the greatest ever heard.Callas voice on top is thin, wobbly , unsteady and lyrical notes and Callas top became unlistenable since 1954 and was gone since 1959
You are so idiotic any one can hear from many of her recordings that this you are implying is not true. She would not been considered a Dramatic soprano then but only a Lyric or Spinto like Tebaldi. So stop tryting to have the last word on everything because like i said it won't change the real truth wich out weighs youre teaspoon.
Your last post is a desperate call, you are upset. Why are you so unsecure.I must go on posting to teach even a bit to ignorants like you.Learn the different soprano registers and then post.Meanwhile give up to posting.
Lol. Upset look back at all youre postings, you have been on my comment trail like white on rice. Before you try to teach you need to first practice what you preach darling. For starters the word you where trying to imply is insecure not unsecure that is not an english word,so you obviously showed everyone that you are somewhat illiterate.
Why do you answer me ? Because you care very much my remarks because you know I say accurate things and you can't stand them because you lie yourself, because of your ignorance and partly because of your bad intentioned and miserable spirit
What is the first thing fantasual does when he comes to his house ? He desperate check my last posts, he eats them, however he claims I am an idiot and other insults, hahaha ! Mr fantasual, a good advice: take sleeping pills and check your heart and health in general with the doctor.I will pray for you
Look who's talking about bad intentions look at what you write, that;'s if you can recall what you write. And it is a fact that she flopped and is flawed as as well.
Since Potrobsas is so kean on pointing out the decline in other singers, here's one for his precious goose. In the spring of 1959 when Tebaldi sang Aida with Karajan in Vienna, she had such a difficult time with "O Paria Mia" that she refused to take a curtain bow at the end of the third act. And then put the Ethiopian princess on the shelf. You could also hear the obvious lost of lustre in the voice thereafter.
Staastsoper tape from september '59 Aìda does not exist, but we do have the Karajan Aìda (recorded in Sofiensal Viena, sept 1959) and Tebaldi is untouchable. Her glorious career was at its height and it would remained in the first positions for many years ahead (spectacular Gioconda success '66/'68, etc, till 1976).Callas too flawed voice started its decline as long ago as 1954 ! at the age of 30 and by 1959 her career was over. She remained silent in her house since she was 35.
Yes but who cares. So many other sopranos can easily sing the way she did for it was so plaintiff and straight line very boring nothing intersting. So you can go on till you are blue in the face it will not make any signifigant difference in youre lifetime or after.
If one wish to listen two examples of the worst "Oh patri mia" ever sung, go to Callas studio version recorded in 1955 in this website, you will listen a very weak, weeping all the aria, weak voice and a disastrous tight, woobly and screamed C sung by Callas in the climax and a terrible Aflat at the end, and the '53 Callas London "live" harrowing "Oh patria mia" , NO EXCUSES to sing SO BADLY
Yes and no excuses for Tebaldi either to have sung Traviata so badly trying to get away with transposing the first act downward to accomadate her short comings with no success. She had quite some stormy nites. Are we going to go on and on with pointing out flaws or should we talk about who's more memorable and famous.
Her voice on top was not tiny stop exagerating. Youre feet and hands are probably tiny not to mention what else may be. You definately got youre head in a cloud over this singer. Good lord do you sleep with Tebaldi's picture on chest with youre hands crossed..lol. Besides there is life after Tebaldi much bigger life.
Please! don't knock something that is obviously good to make what you like seem bigger than life. If someone where to watch this footage for the first time, they will surely recall who the actress here is and not the singer.
They would use a fabulous Actress and film beauty like Sophia Loren to do the acting because Tebaldi couldn't act. And this is a film with the vocals are added not a live performance where critical analysis on ones vocals are being judged.
L. Price High C is notably famous in Aida and you can obviously here, why it's just so heavenly and perfectly suited for this aria. And Price is lovelier a most voluptuous Aida. I think Tebaldi being a native Italian got her a lot of favoritism and sugar caoting in the italian opera world.
You are totally right. I don't know why I ever doubted your knowledge about voices. You've must a doctorate in vocal pedagogy and must be an esteemed expert on the voice. Please forgive me.
How can you put La Nilsson and Tebaldi in the same boot? Nilsson was a much greater singer than your Tebaldi and had fabulous high notes. She never screamed like Tebaldi and her career lasted longer than. She sang the high C in O patria mia as written: dolce pp.
I think that's because they wish she was like Nilson. It sounds like they are trying to make Tebaldi out to be a dramatic soprano like Nilson. These are what you call hopefuls and the war cry comments are all too darn funny. lol.
I never heard this aria sung with such a beautiful sound. Better L. Price - Tebaldi has that clear sound, and perfect diction. Price's sound to heavy.
iheartverdi knowledge about voices is pathetic but the worst thing is that he posts even.iheartverdi cannot distinguish between a perfect and effortless FFF high C like this clip shows and tiny mosquito and screechy Cs like Leontyne Price attempted
In my copy of the score the phrase leading up to the high C is marked pp. The high C is marked dolce. I don´t see FFF written anywhere. Tebaldi´s high C doesn´t sound dolce, it sounds like a war cry.
Is my knowledge pathetic because I don't agree you? Potrobsas, I believe, even at your age your only exposure to Tebaldi is the same as mine--through recording. Tebaldi officially retired from opera in '73 when you were about 7 or 8 according to your profile.
(con't) In my comment, I did not mention Price but I must assume that when you refer to her, you're referring to clips on youtube. Price (who retired in '85) successfully sang Aida for at least 3 decades and is only 5 years younger than Tebaldi. BTW, huge notes are necessarily great ones as demonstrated here.
iheartverdi: Your major problem is you believe you know something about Verdi and you have no idea of what technique is and what italian singing is.You don't know anything about voices and registers, etc
No youre knowledge is not pathetic. You can get some facts from simply going to youre browser and typing in the artist name to find out a lot thye don't tell you here. The fans of a singer are only going to tell you good points and hyped up bullshit. For starters Tebaldi should not be compared to Nilson who was a differen't singer entirely who sang roles that tebaldi did not.
Exactly you are correct. These retarded witches got Tebaldi fever so bad it's making them delusional. That's not huge. She had to push and make effort like you mentioned for high C,because it's a known fact that her top range was limited.
You have NO idea of voices, Tebaldi voice was huge and her top was as huge as her middle, her C on this "Oh patria mia" is perfect and EASY.What do you know of Tebaldi and Nilsson....You don't know anything
How do you know if i have no idea of voices. Who are you the great connaseur of opera music and voices...LoL. I'm not the only one hear who commented on that not being Fortissimo FF or Fortississimo FFF wichever you think it is. Just because you have music knowledg means you are always correct even the best make errors. Turn the valume dowwn on youre stereo or headphones wich ever it is you use.
The soundtrack of this film is abridged unfortunately BUT Tebaldi singing is perfection.A perfect voice from the first to the last note.High C at the climax is perfect and ravishingly beautiful note
