  • I actually found out about this when I watched an episode of fimiliar faces on that guy with the glasses by CR. I'm glad I looked it up, keep up the good work Sally!

  • Would "fluid" be a good way to describe the lizard's dance moves?

  • Why shouldn't I go in the basement?

  • @laughingsal How do you make these beautiful stuff?

Some people saidyou are high, or is this just a huge amount of fantasy?

  • @MrWafflesthefish it never had anything to do with drugs- I just get tired of correcting people about that, makes me sound too too...

  • Related videos: Malice in Wonderland

So *that's* what's in the basement...

  • @OMGBEARS So please don't go in the basement! D:

  • Oingo Boingo...most avant garde band of the 20th century. \8-D

  • efegdg

  • What program did u use to make this?

  • @squishanimations I hope you're kidding.

  • @squishanimations srsly? -.-

  • @MsApples007 lol sos didn't mean the person who uploaded it, but like progams would they use to make it

  • @squishanimations i think its hand-drawn... i dunno

  • @MsApples007 lol sos didn't mean the person who uploaded it, but like progams would they use to make it.

  • oh CR! thanks for pointing me to this gem :3

  • The inspired don't need something as simple as drugs to create things that bend the walls of reality. The world gives enough weird ideas to the sober mind.

  • @Casanuda exquisite comment

  • @laughingsal that's my favourite word in english... just too EXQUISITE! ;)

  • @laughingsal your both queers

  • @Casanuda Drugs just add to the fun.

  • @Casanuda This doesn't even come close to comparing to the things tripping off lsd or dxm can inspire in you're mind. I'm not condoning drugs, but don't knock something until you've tried it. If you don't want to, great, but don't knock people for doing it. Cause they've seen things you can't imagine in ur wildest dreams.

  • @Casanuda well said

  • @Casanuda but drugs sure do help.

  • @Shinzu92

Not true. I have more abnormal ideas sober than when under the influence of alcohol.

  • @Casanuda *drugs

    as in weed

  • @Shinzu92 pcp, heroin, lsd

  • Did you make this animation?

  • @flimflabber777 yes it's part of my cartoon "Face Like a Frog."

  • I no feel like im on crack :O lol

  • you are insane, in a very good way and i really hope we your stuff on the big screen :)

  • im so high right now this shit is freaking me out!

  • This is cute, Who's the song by? I deeeg it :)

  • @trashleeefull It's Danny Elfman.

  • @trashleeefull This song is by Oingo Boingo , Danny Elfman was their front man.

  • @trashleeefull This song is by Oingo Boingo , Danny Elfman was their front man.

  • we all decide how we use our talents. it seems that better art could have been generated that this stuff , yeah ?

  • Intensely creepy for... obvious reasons,

  • i would love an acapella of this to remix.

  • Wait... How on EARTH did you come up with cartoons as abstract as this? I'm not trying to be offensive or accuse you of anything, but this just seems to me like something someone could only come up when they're on acid or some other hard drug. So how?????

  • @dragonholder411 I have a good imagination. The thing about animation, especially with a great track, is you can picture the whole thing in your mind, and then storyboard it, and it's as if you've already made the animation- the creative part is all in those early stages.

  • @dragonholder411 "How on EARTH did you come up with cartoons as abstract as this"

You guessed it - DRUGS. Only an ACID TRIP can give you this type of fucked up brain.

  • all this needed was frank zappa playing a solo and this whold be the best thing on youtube.ps.im gonna go in the basement

  • I have said this to you before, You are a "National Treasure". I have purchased from you long before there was a YouTube. May you live long and smile.

  • @Jemmcanna so sweet- wishing you a great life too!

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS IN THAT BASEMENT, I SIMPLY MUST KNOW NOW.

  • glad you're all enjoying it- thanks for your comments.

  • I remember this gem from Alive From Off Center. Loved it then and am tickled to death to have found it now. Thank you, laughingsal. Keep up the good work, missy.

    x

  • OHG I can't stop sinning this song!! it's so awesomely catchy!! OAO <3333

  • The door at the end always cracks me up

  • This is such cool song.....Id love to know WHY we cant go in the basement????

  • this is so delightfully trippy

  • simdude2u it wasn't on Sesame St. but I did a lot of work for them. LordShivasServant, I'm not a very deep thinker but glad you got so much from it.

  • Was this ever on Sesame Street?

I remember seeing this as a kid.

  • Fantastic song and video! But I wonder, is this portraying the sentiment of our Society "Don't go in the basement", as in, don't go into the abyss, the unconscious, don't take acid, don't go dark?

In psychology and astrology house = someone's being.

The line that struck me most was "You can fill yourself with static with the ghosts up in the attic, but don't go in the basement" as in play with the Angels, ignore true inspiration.

Aloof playing rummy on the roof = A Yogi or Hermit

    Jai Shiva

  • I saw this ages ago on The 90's Hemp Video. very cool!

  • this is horribly disturbing

  • Saw this on CR and it caught my attention so much I just had to look it up.

  • blue32ism thanks for all your kind comments. Glad you're enjoying everything.

  • Your videos are really beautiful! Love the style!

  • No way!

  • I like how that Frog Witch is there to remind you of what the basement looks like, just in case you'd forgotten or had never been there.

  • Don't go in the basement..got it

  • i love this song!

  • I friggin' LOVE Danny Elfman. The guy's a genious. 5/5* and faved. Thanks for the upload.

  • Hot damn!

Was just directed here from a guy who reviews obscure animation, usually focusing on characters. Probably got an influx of new viewers from that.

A catchy tune and some trippy attractive animation. I've got to watch the rest of what's in your account now.

  • Familiar Faces rocks ;)

Anyone think Elfman sounds kinda like Voiltare in this song?

  • @PersonNinja he kinda does

  • @knightrebound Yeah my inbox looked like I'd formed my own cult this morning, so many peeps had subscribed to my videos!

  • @laughingsal you can probably thank a guy who goes by the name CR for that. you can find him on thatguywiththeglasses, com

  • @knightrebound Let me guess, CR's show Familiar Faces.

  • @JSBUnitedVideos Pretty much. I figured that would be a pretty pointless and dull thing to say with all the other comments making it obvious. So I didn't.

  • I just discovered this, and your body of amazing work in general, via a fellow I watch on youtube called rblueboy77. Combine some of the most creative and engrossing animation I've ever seen (and I watch a lot of cartoons!) with the musical style of Mr. Catchy-yet-creepy tunes himself, and I simply have to add this to my favorites.

  • @TsunogaiDanshaku Thanks for all your really nice comments.

  • @laughingsal You're very welcome. Thank *you* for creating all this amazing animation and sharing it with us.

  • rblueboy77 also goes by the name CR and also is featured on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses(dot)com. So chances are, when he puts the video you're talking about up on that website, that's pretty much twice the publicity Ms. Cruikshank will be getting.

  • @Falcovsleon21 Indeed. I also follow CR on DeviantArt, he's a pretty multi-talented guy.

  • Big Lipped Alligator Moment!

  • D=>

  • That is one of the coolest cartoons i've seen in a long time. The song is great too. Who recorded that?

  • @GwynnEarl It's Danny Elfman and the old group Oingo Boingo performing under a pseudonym "Mystic Knights."

  • I saw this when it first came out at an animation festival in Madison, Wisconsin. I never thought I would see it again! Thanks.

  • I just love it. You have a lot to be proud of, Sal. I think the lizard really does look a little like Danny and slinks around the way he would onstage :)

  • is this real life

  • I'm I on drugs?

  • @foofwolf22 No my child. It is the work of satan.

  • This is greattt :D

I can't explain the amazingness of it (:

  • glad your name isn't in a spelling bee. Thanks!

  • I'm wondering, is there some place where you have doodles or printed animation cells for sale?

I'd love to get in on that, would make some really neat Christmas presents!

  • If you remind me in two weeks I can email some possible cels for sale.

  • Excellent animation! Who sung this song?

  • That's Danny Elman singing.

  • I knew it! He sounds a bit like that skeleton dude from the Corpse Bride. =D

How was it working with Danny Elfman to make the music for your animations? What do you personally think of the music in your cartoon? (sorry for all the questions) XD

  • Danny was very friendly and inspired. He was just getting started with computer created movie scores and enjoyed the experiment I think. I love the music. It was hard for me to mix it down so the dialog could also be heard.

  • That is so awesome! Do you still keep in contact with him?

Also... who did the voices for the charater like Gluey and the frog dude and the car? (they were cool voices, and they should've said more)

Did you originally have more of a script for this cartoon?

  • No, we lost touch. He became quite a famous guy working all the time. I did the cartoon @ss backwards, animating a big part of it before I had any voices. That's why they don't say much. The frog dude is the voice of Dick Miller, who appeared in many of Joe Dante's movies.

  • Wow.

Thanks for answering my questions. Keep up the awesome work. =D

  • Let me know when you're down there.

  • I loved this the first time I saw it on Liquid Television.

Your animation along with this song are perfect together!!! I'm so glad it's on you tube. Thanks for posting. :)

  • Thanks for your nice message, newsong99.

  • niiiiiice :)

  • Outstanding creativity. Question for laughingsal - did you story board this and just blend the images together as you were painting the individual frames?

  • I storyboarded this song because I was lucky enough to get the music before the animation. In the cartoon Face Like a Frog, which this is part of, I animated before I got the track. It's much more fun to animate to an existing track because you can hit the beats etc.

  • I always thought that nobody before or after could ever come close to matching the spell-binding surrealism of pre-code Fleischer cartoons. Apparently, the Fleischers have met their match, if not their master. This is one of the best cartoons I've ever seen.

  • Well this comment actually makes me blush. It took years and youtube for this cartoon to find its audience.

  • it says "no exit."!

  • Comment removed

  • Like Sartre?

  • exactement monsieur.

  • Well..i have a question

after theyre in the elevator, between 1:05 or 1:06,was that a sumblinal i saw?i could have sworn it said,"No Sex"..like the snake-lizard guy's body turned into an "S" but his body also formed an "E" at the same time. somewhere in the cartoon, the female frog said,"Im not wearing under-wear" and Dont go in the basement sounds like an inuendo.and theres also the part where they add that random pink "X" when his body was being weird.Just out of curiousity-_-'

  • So, today I went to the zoo. I saw an amphibious snake-lizard looking hybrid; I completely forgot it's name. It even had a forked tongue; and slithered around it's tiny cramped little water habitat.

It looked JUST like Danny Elfman.

  • funny!

  • the face that appears on the door at the end = me actually screaming with laughter

  • funny!

  • Did Danny Elfman enjoy doing this?

  • I'm sure he did. He was just switching over to sound tracks and this was all experimenting.

  • so what's this from?

  • It's from a cartoon I made called "Face Like a Frog" also with soundtrack by Danny Elfman. It's on youtube or on a dvd I sell, along with lots of other animation I've done.

  • What's in the basement? I have the key to it but I'm scared to go in.

  • It's that old cheese that people were watching on the webcam a few years ago. It's gotten really stinky.

  • Such a distinct and exciting aesthetic. Lots of fun to watch. Must have been fun to make.

  • It was fun to make-- before digital color choices-- trying to get brightest colors and contrast possible. also before some of the paints made from toxic materials were taken off the shelves.

  • Trade-offs on the toxins - the jury is still out on how good looking into a glowing screen for 12 hours a day and fidgetting with a digitizer tablet is for the body. Takes up less space, though, and can be done from low-priced offshore contractor studios. And that is all that counts.

  • I hear you.

  • Some day, I might take footage from Danny's performances and synch it to this song as a tribute to Face Like A Frog.

  • Holy ----, it really is Danny. I had to say it again because I'm amazed (in a good way).

  • I recently learned the love of Danny's life broke up with him. (I'm not sure when this happened.) What a fool.

  • Isn't he still married to Bridget (sp?) Fonda?

  • Oh, he is? I didn't know that. Oops. I really don't know about his current personal life. I was just being a know-it-all with something I heard somewhere on YouTube. Sorry about that.

  • It's a Danny Lizard! :D (Or Danny Lizardman.)

  • I've watched several of Danny Elman's live performances in the last few days. I now see how much the lizard is like Danny in his movements and even the appearance. Going to an Oingo Boingo concert paid off. :) (What a cool way to do research.)

  • I love your animation! I love it's lively colors and oddness, and surrealism. I remember seeing this one on MTVs liquid television.

  • Thanks for your nice comments.

  • I've tried thinking of someting cooler than Face Like A Frog, and it's been hard. The animation in Yellow Submarine is of comparable coolness. The pink elephants sequence in Dumbo is another.

  • Sally Cruikshank + Danny Elfman = story and soundtrack of a life worth living. (And it has been, after an end-of-the-day assessment.)

  • Killer animation in this.

  • It's so cool that you got to work with both Danny Elfman and the Cheap Suit Serenaders. Great visual art and great musical art compliment each other so well.

  • I feel the same way, my favorite animation is when it's really synching with the music.

  • Were you inspired by Ralph bakshi? The animation in this is similar to some of his work.
